Computex 2024 marked the start of a three-way contest to put Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC features on Windows laptops. Qualcomm had the first announced wave of systems, built around Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus; Microsoft also identified AMD Ryzen AI 300 and Intel Lunar Lake as platforms expected to qualify through later updates. The June 2024 announcements established competing approaches, not a proven overall winner.
What makes a PC a Copilot+ PC?
For the launch-era requirements described by Qualcomm in 2024, a qualifying PC needed an NPU rated at least 40 TOPS, 16GB of memory and 256GB of storage. TOPS means trillions of operations per second; here, the figure describes the neural processing unit’s AI-processing capacity, not a general laptop-performance score.
Qualcomm said Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus systems had 45-TOPS NPUs, five TOPS above that stated minimum. Meeting the threshold did not, by itself, establish that every Copilot+ feature would be available immediately on every qualifying model.
How the three platforms compared at Computex
The announcements differed in what they established: Qualcomm named a first wave of PCs and a retail date, while Microsoft described AMD and Intel platforms as qualifying or planned follow-ons. These are not comparable benchmark results.

| Platform | AI capability and qualification | Software and availability announced in 2024 | What the announcement did not establish |
|---|---|---|---|
| Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus | Qualcomm said the NPU delivered 45 TOPS, above the stated 40-TOPS Copilot+ minimum. | Qualcomm’s June 3, 2024 release said more than 20 Copilot+ PCs were available for pre-order and would reach major retailers on June 18, 2024. | A neutral head-to-head performance result against AMD or Intel; current inventory or pricing. |
| AMD Ryzen AI 300 | Microsoft’s 2024 event coverage said Ryzen AI 300 processors exceeded Copilot+ PC requirements. | Microsoft said qualifying Windows 11 AI PCs would receive a free Copilot+ experience update when available. | A retail date or named qualifying laptop list in that coverage; a neutral benchmark comparison. |
| Intel Lunar Lake | Microsoft’s 2024 event coverage described the architecture for AI PCs and planned Copilot+ qualification for eligible systems. | Microsoft said qualifying systems would receive a free Copilot+ experience update when available. | A retail date or named qualifying laptop list in that coverage; a neutral benchmark comparison. |
Qualcomm’s release named the ASUS Vivobook S 15, HP OmniBook X, Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x, Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 and Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge among the launch systems. The June 18 date was the announced major-retailer availability date, not a guarantee that every model or configuration would be in stock in every country on that day.
What Copilot+ features were part of the announcement?
Microsoft’s event coverage discussed Recall, Cocreator and Live Captions as Copilot+ experiences. It described Live Captions as translating spoken audio into English from more than 40 languages. Those descriptions explain the feature set being promoted, but do not show that every experience was ready on every PC at the moment it was announced.

For AMD and Intel, the key software detail was timing: Microsoft described a free Copilot+ experience update for qualifying PCs as coming when available. The announcement therefore should not be read as proof that the features were already installed or usable on those systems at Computex.
Which Copilot+ laptop should you choose?
For a buyer evaluating the announcements as they stood in June 2024, the answer depended on the specific laptop and on whether the buyer valued an announced first-wave product or a platform awaiting a feature update. The announcements alone do not support naming one processor family as the best overall choice.

- Check the exact model’s qualification. A processor family name is not a substitute for confirming that the specific PC meets Copilot+ requirements, including the 40-TOPS NPU threshold, 16GB memory and 256GB storage stated for the launch-era category.
- Check feature timing. Qualcomm’s launch PCs were the first announced wave; Microsoft described AMD and Intel Copilot+ experiences as updates for qualifying systems when available. Confirm the state of the features for the actual model and date you are considering.
- Consider app compatibility. Snapdragon PCs use Windows on Arm, so application compatibility is a practical consideration to check against the programs and accessories you rely on. Intel’s Computex positioning emphasized x86 compatibility. The announcements did not provide a comprehensive app-by-app comparison.
- Compare whole-laptop mobility, not just processor claims. Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said Snapdragon X Elite Copilot+ PCs could deliver “multi-day battery life.” Microsoft’s Intel coverage attributed “up to 40% lower processor power” for Lunar Lake versus the previous generation. Both are vendor or event claims, with different bases; neither establishes battery life for a particular laptop configuration or a neutral comparison between platforms.
- Compare real configurations and local availability. Memory, storage, screen, price, retail date and regional model can differ even within a processor family. The June 2024 announcements do not establish current prices, stock or later processor revisions.
What Computex did—and did not—settle
Computex 2024 made the AI-PC contest concrete: a Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ launch wave had named systems and an announced retailer date, while Microsoft positioned Ryzen AI 300 and Lunar Lake as qualifying alternatives whose Copilot+ experiences would arrive through updates. That was meaningful competition over hardware, software readiness and compatibility—not a neutral test showing that one platform was faster, more efficient or better for every buyer.
Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger called AI “one of the most consequential eras of innovation the industry has ever seen.” The more useful buyer question beneath that broad claim was narrower: which specific laptop met the requirements, supported the software and features needed, and was available in the configuration and region the buyer wanted?
