Peregrine Semiconductor Corporation changed its name to pSemi Corporation with immediate effect in January 2018. The Murata company said the new identity reflected a broader semiconductor-integration mission; existing Peregrine-branded products kept their name and support channels, while the pSemi brand was introduced on new products.
What changed when Peregrine Semiconductor became pSemi?
The January 22, 2018 announcement covered a corporate rebrand, not the disappearance of the existing product line. Peregrine Semiconductor adopted the name pSemi Corporation, launched a new logo and website, and said the pSemi name would appear across new products. The change was effective immediately.
| Area | What the announcement said |
|---|---|
| Company name and identity | Peregrine Semiconductor Corporation became pSemi Corporation, a Murata company; a new logo and website launched. |
| New products | The pSemi name was to be rolled out across new products. |
| Existing products | Legacy products kept the Peregrine Semiconductor name and logo. |
| Legacy product support | The same sales teams, distributors and applications engineers continued supporting those products. |
These transition details are from the EE Times report published January 22, 2018.
Why did Peregrine change its name to pSemi?
The company linked the rebrand to a broader mission and product portfolio, beyond its established RF-CMOS work. Murata presented pSemi as its semiconductor arm, building on Peregrine Semiconductor’s 30-year technology and intellectual-property legacy while pursuing high-performance RF, analog, mixed-signal and optical solutions.

The announcement highlighted power management, connected sensors, optical transceivers, antenna tuning and RF frontends as areas in the expanded portfolio. It also pointed to applications in smartphones, base stations, personal computers, electric vehicles, data centers, IoT devices and healthcare.
The change coincided with two milestones the company emphasized: 30 years of RF-CMOS innovation and shipment of its 4 billionth chip, in an order to Samsung. Norio Nakajima, Murata senior executive vice president of the module business unit, said: “We’ve challenged the pSemi team to broaden their scope, increase their intellectual property (IP) portfolio and grow on a global scale to support more semiconductor innovations.” pSemi CEO Stefan Wolff described the launch as “the next chapter in this company’s history.”

Is pSemi the same company as Peregrine Semiconductor?
Yes. In the 2018 announcement, pSemi was the new corporate name for Peregrine Semiconductor Corporation—not a separate successor introduced in place of the semiconductor business. The change updated the company’s identity and signaled a broader portfolio; the announcement did not say that legacy products or their support arrangements were being withdrawn.
What happened to Peregrine Semiconductor products?
Existing products remained under the Peregrine Semiconductor name and logo, with the same sales teams, distributors and applications engineers providing support. The pSemi branding was intended for new products. The announcement did not provide a product-by-product schedule for the branding transition.

A separate company, Peregrine Pharmaceuticals, announced a change to Avid Bioservices in January 2018. That was unrelated to Peregrine Semiconductor’s change to pSemi. The shared “Peregrine” name can cause confusion, but the businesses and their announcements were distinct. Avid Bioservices’ announcement concerns the pharmaceutical company, not pSemi.
