Sony’s final Personal 3D Viewer generation was the HMZ-T3W, a wireless model, and the wired HMZ-T3. The head-mounted unit weighs about 320 g in either model; the “trimming” is relative to the separate battery and processor components, which are heavier on the wireless T3W. Both models are discontinued, so finding one today generally means shopping the used or refurbished market.

What is the latest Sony Personal 3D Viewer headset?

The HMZ-T3W and HMZ-T3 are the final generation of Sony’s Personal 3D Viewer line. The T3W is the wireless version; the HMZ-T3 uses a wired connection. Sony describes both as discontinued and says they are not currently handled by the Sony Store.

The product line began with the HMZ-T1. In an August 2011 announcement, Sony introduced it as a head-mounted display for watching both 2D and 3D content, with a virtual screen equivalent to 750 inches. That is useful context for the product’s theater-style concept, not evidence of current availability. Sony’s 2011 announcement

How much do the HMZ-T3W and HMZ-T3 weigh?

Sony Japan’s 2014 specifications list component weights rather than one total system weight. The head-mounted unit is approximately 320 g for either model. The separate battery and processor units differ:

These are Sony’s approximate component weights, not a measured all-in system weight; accessories and cables are not included in that comparison. Sony Japan’s HMZ-T3W and HMZ-T3 specifications

What is the difference between HMZ-T3W and HMZ-T3?

The key distinction is the connection: HMZ-T3W is wireless, while HMZ-T3 is wired. In Sony’s listed component weights, the T3W battery unit is about 50 g heavier and its processor about 30 g heavier than the T3’s. Both share the same listed display specifications: dual 1280 × 720 OLED panels, a 45-degree field of view and a virtual image equivalent to 750 inches. Those specifications do not establish that one model has better image quality than the other.

For a used listing, check the exact model and its included equipment. Sony’s official product information identifies HDMI connections and model-specific components; verify which cables and accessories are actually supplied rather than assuming a complete original package.

Is the Sony HMZ-T3W still available, and can you buy one used?

Sony marks both the HMZ-T3W and HMZ-T3 as discontinued and says they are not currently sold through the Sony Store. A purchase today is therefore generally a secondary-market transaction. Sony’s official pages do not establish current third-party stock, prices or item condition.

Search for the exact phrase Sony HMZ-T3W Personal 3D Viewer headset when looking for used or refurbished listings. Before buying, confirm the listing’s stated condition and inspect the included-parts list or ask the seller for photographs.

  • HDMI cables

If an original HDMI cable is missing, a compatible high-speed HDMI cable may be a practical replacement; that does not mean Sony still sells a dedicated replacement cable. For any used headset, also confirm that the seller can demonstrate the set powers on and that the parts match the advertised model.

What to keep in mind before choosing one

The T3W offers the wireless configuration but has heavier listed battery and processor units than the wired T3. Sony lists the same core display figures for both models, so choose based on connection preference, completeness and the condition of the particular used set—not an unsupported assumption of better picture quality in one version.
