If the rumored Fold9 figure and Fold7 figure were measured on the same basis, 7.9 mm would be 1.0 mm less than the Fold7’s 8.9 mm folded thickness. But the rumor gives no measurement convention, so the arithmetic does not establish a like-for-like comparison. Samsung’s Fold7 figures are official; the Fold9 numbers are not.
What “UDC could make a comeback” means—and what is uncertain
A UDC puts a front-facing camera beneath the display rather than leaving a conventional camera cutout in the visible screen. Samsung’s engineers describe reducing pixel density in the area above the camera so light can pass through. That can make the screen look more uninterrupted while apps are running, but it creates an optical trade-off: Samsung says diffraction may cause flare, saturation, blur, and haze in camera images. The October 2026 report discusses Fold9, then says Samsung may be considering UDC “for the Galaxy Z Fold 8.” It does not explain the change in model number. That inconsistency could be a copy or model-number error, but the report does not resolve it; it is not sound evidence that Fold9 will get UDC.

Samsung’s cited materials document UDC on the Galaxy Z Fold3, Fold4, and Fold5, not a Fold9 decision. Samsung Hong Kong says the Fold4 and Fold5 UDC sits beneath the main display and is intended primarily for video calls and facial recognition. Whether a UDC is preferable depends on what matters more: an uninterrupted-looking inner screen or front-camera image quality. Samsung’s explanation identifies the potential image effects, but the cited material does not establish how a possible Fold9 camera would perform.

No. In July 2026, Samsung Electronics America announced Flex Titanium, describing a titanium-alloy film and plate designed for next-generation Galaxy foldables with a balance of slimness, flexibility, and strength. The announcement does not name Fold9, give handset thickness figures, or connect the material to a UDC decision. It cannot confirm the rumor.
Samsung said the precision-rolled film measures roughly one-third the thickness of an average human hair. That measurement describes a display material, not the thickness of a phone. Samsung Display executive Kyung-Jin Yoo said the company used micro-patterned holes in the titanium plate’s folding section to secure flexibility and durability.
