Choose the least disruptive repair that can fix the problem: if Windows still starts, try its built-in recovery options before a USB reinstall. Use Microsoft installation media when recovery is unavailable or you need a fresh installation. A clean install can erase files, apps, settings, and AVITA factory customizations, so back up first and verify the exact Altum model before you begin.
Choose a repair or installation method
The right method depends on whether Windows starts and whether you need to preserve your current setup. Microsoft recommends considering repair options before resetting Windows or reinstalling it from media. See Recovery options in Windows.

Check the Altum model and Windows requirements
Before downloading Windows or changing firmware settings, find the full model number and regional variant on the laptop’s product label or in Windows system information. Requirements and available support can differ by configuration.

Do not assume every Altum supports Windows 11. AVITA’s dated Windows 11 upgrade list does not name Altum among the displayed models, but that absence does not prove that no Altum configuration is compatible. Check the exact laptop against Microsoft’s current Windows 11 requirements and ask AVITA support about your model and region.
The official AVITA material identified here does not confirm an Altum-specific driver package, recovery image, or boot-menu key. AVITA says support arrangements changed effective 2022-08-09; use its regional support page to find the appropriate contact. Boot-menu access and startup-from-USB instructions vary by manufacturer, so do not rely on a guessed function key or BIOS setting.

Back up files and prepare the license information
Before any reset or clean installation, copy important files to a separate drive or cloud storage and make sure you can access them from another device if the laptop will not boot. A clean install can erase content on the selected Windows drive.
- Check BitLocker: If device encryption or BitLocker is enabled, keep the recovery key accessible before entering a recovery environment or changing startup settings.
- Note the Windows edition: Find out whether the laptop is licensed for Home, Pro, or another edition. During reinstall, select the edition that matches the device’s license.
- Confirm account access: Make sure you can sign in to the account or access license information you may need after setup.
- Use a separate USB drive: Have an empty USB flash drive of at least 8 GB for installation media. Creating recovery media erases the selected drive, so do not use one containing files you need.
Create Windows installation media
Use Microsoft’s official Windows download page on a working PC to create the installation USB. Follow the instructions for the Windows version you intend to install; do not download installers from third-party sites.

- Open Microsoft’s Windows software download page on a working computer.
- Select the relevant Windows version and follow Microsoft’s installation-media creation instructions.
- Choose the intended USB drive carefully. The creation process formats or erases the selected drive, so verify it contains nothing you need.
- When the tool finishes, safely eject the USB drive and keep it available for the Altum.
Microsoft specifies a USB drive of at least 8 GB for installation media. Its separate Recovery Drive instructions also warn that creating a recovery drive erases the chosen USB; a recovery drive and Windows installation media are not necessarily interchangeable.
Start the Altum from USB
Connect the USB installer to the laptop and use the startup-from-media procedure for your exact model. Microsoft advises consulting the computer manufacturer for how to start from installation media. Because no Altum-specific boot sequence was confirmed, check the model manual or ask AVITA support rather than guessing a key or changing firmware settings at random.

Install Windows carefully
Use Microsoft’s installation-media guide alongside setup. Its clean-install process removes data and can remove manufacturer customizations.
- Boot from the USB installer and choose the appropriate language and keyboard settings.
- Start Windows Setup and choose the installation option.
- If prompted for an edition, select the one matching the laptop’s existing license.
- At the drive-selection screen, identify the intended Windows installation drive before proceeding.
- Stop if you cannot confidently identify the correct disk or partition. Do not delete or format partitions to guess your way through setup; return to a recovery option or get qualified help if data must be preserved.
- Follow the remaining setup prompts. Allow the laptop to restart as needed, and remove the USB when setup indicates that it should boot into the new installation.
Finish setup and check drivers
Connect the laptop to the internet after Windows setup. Microsoft says activation usually occurs after the device goes online; a significant hardware change can complicate activation. Check the Activation page in Windows Settings if activation does not complete.

Run Windows Update, then open Device Manager and look for devices with missing drivers or warning icons.
