The native Hyperliquid–Arbitrum bridge has a documented security review, but the available evidence does not establish that its current deployed contract matches the code Zellic reviewed. Deposits and withdrawals also depend on user-side network and wallet choices, and withdrawals rely on validator authorization. Treat the audit history as useful evidence—not as proof that the bridge is safe, trustless, or immune to failure.
What this assessment covers
This assessment is about Hyperliquid’s native route between Hyperliquid and Arbitrum, specifically the documented USDC deposit and withdrawal path. It does not assess community-built HyperEVM applications or third-party bridges, which can have different contracts, operators, and trust assumptions.
Hyperliquid’s onboarding documentation describes depositing Arbitrum USDC and withdrawing USDC to Arbitrum. The particular asset and network matter: sending the wrong asset or using the wrong network is a user-operation risk, not evidence by itself of a bridge-contract exploit.
How the documented USDC route works
| Action | Documented path | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit | Send USDC from Arbitrum through the native route. Hyperliquid onboarding instructions say to hold ETH on Arbitrum for deposit transaction gas. | Confirm the asset and network in the official deposit flow before signing. ETH for gas is separate from the USDC being deposited. |
| Withdraw | Submit a withdrawal request through Hyperliquid’s exchange endpoint. Hyperliquid’s API documentation says L1 validators sign and send the request to the bridge contract, which finalizes it after the relevant process. | Use the official withdrawal flow and verify the destination network and address. A withdrawal is not simply a direct wallet-to-wallet transfer. |
Hyperliquid’s API documentation lists a $1 withdrawal fee and an approximate five-minute finalization time “at the time of this writing.” These are operational figures, not guarantees: fees and timing can change, and actual completion can depend on network conditions. Check the current official flow before initiating a transfer.

What security assumptions does the bridge make?
Validator authorization
Zellic’s assessment of the legacy bridge describes withdrawal and validator-set-change requests requiring signatures from a “two thirds majority of validators,” followed by a dispute period before finalization. Hyperliquid’s separate staking documentation defines a quorum as more than two-thirds of total network stake. These descriptions concern different contexts and should not be collapsed into a claim that every bridge action has an identical threshold.
Cryptographic signatures establish that authorized keys approved a request; they do not make the process trustless. Users still depend on validator key security, availability, honest authorization, and effective response to an incident. Hyperliquid says its active set is the top 24 validators by stake. The sources cited here do not quantify current stake concentration, so they do not establish how much stake is controlled by a small number of participants.

Contract scope, upgrades, and operational controls
Hyperliquid’s audit index says its “legacy bridge contract has been audited by Zellic.” The word “legacy” limits what that statement establishes: it does not show that the currently deployed Arbitrum contract corresponds to the reviewed version, that later changes were audited, or that the bridge cannot fail. A security review applies to the code and scope examined, not automatically to every deployment or upgrade.
Zellic also described a historical pause-and-rotation issue: a pending operation could remain executable after a pause and validator rotation, once the bridge was unpaused. The report says Hyperliquid contributors acknowledged the issue and implemented a fix in commit 8c4a182a. That is evidence of reported remediation in the reviewed-code history; without deployment verification, it does not establish that the fix is present in the contract currently handling transfers.

Message and signature handling
Zellic reported additional issues in the reviewed code: a missing check for an existing withdrawal request that could allow griefing during finalization; signatures that did not include the contract or token address, creating replay or maintenance risk if logic were reused; and unchecked return values from transferFrom. The report lists contributor remediation commits for these findings. As with the pause-related fix, a reported commit does not independently prove that a corresponding change is deployed.
Chain, wallet, and user-operation risks
Even when bridge contracts and validators operate as intended, cross-chain transfers involve risks such as smart-contract failure, congestion, attacks, counterparty dependence, and state rollback. Ethereum.org’s general bridge guidance recommends evaluating who verifies transfers, how confirmation and finalization work, which destinations are supported, what transfers cost, and how emergencies are handled.

Wallet compromise is a separate loss path. Hyperliquid support says unauthorized activity may indicate a compromised key and recommends abandoning the affected address and moving remaining assets. A bridge audit cannot prevent phishing or protect assets controlled by a stolen key. Likewise, sending an unsupported asset or choosing the wrong network is distinct from a validator or contract failure.

- It establishes a review of a defined contract scope: Hyperliquid identifies the Zellic-assessed contract as the legacy bridge, and Zellic documented specific findings in its report.
- It records reported remediation: the report names fixes implemented by contributors, including commit
8c4a182afor the pending-operation issue. - It does not establish the current deployment’s code: the reviewed materials do not map current deployed Arbitrum bytecode and upgrade history to the audited versions.
- It does not establish later audit coverage: the materials do not show whether subsequent changes received additional reviews.
- It does not eliminate operational or user-side risk: validator availability and conduct, network conditions, and wallet security remain relevant.
For a present-day code-level assessment, the material unresolved check is authoritative evidence linking the current contract address and deployed bytecode, including upgrade history, to the reviewed code and any later audits. Without that mapping, a definitive rating of the live contract would go beyond what the published audit statement and report establish.

How to assess a bridge route before using it
For this or another route, evaluate the specific deployment and transfer path rather than relying on a generic claim that a bridge is audited. Useful comparison points are:
- Security and verifier assumptions: who authorizes or verifies transfers, what threshold applies, and what happens if validators are unavailable or compromised.
- Contract scope and upgrade history: which deployed contracts were reviewed, whether current deployments match them, and how upgrades are controlled.
- Finality and fees: the expected confirmation process, current fee, and how congestion or disputes can affect completion.
- Network and asset support: the source and destination networks and assets accepted by the exact route.
- Emergency behavior: whether operations can be paused, how pending transfers are handled during a pause or validator change, and what recovery process exists.
- Wallet and transaction checks: whether the signing address is secure and the chosen network, token, and destination address are correct.
These are distinct questions: a favorable answer on one—such as an audit of a legacy contract—does not answer the others or certify the whole route.
