Workday’s June 2, 2026 announcement describes three distinct layers for enterprise AI agents: tools to help developers build Workday apps and agents in their existing coding environments, a governed way for external agents to use Workday data and actions, and a system for testing and monitoring agents. Workday said the first two capabilities were in early access and projected general availability in the second half of 2026; Agent Passport had a later planned rollout. Those are stated timelines, not confirmation that the capabilities are generally available today.
What Workday announced
Workday grouped three capabilities under Workday Build, its platform for building apps, agents, and orchestrations. They address different stages of working with agents: development, connection to enterprise systems, and verification.

Workday’s current Developer Agent page still describes early access and targets general availability for 2026R2 or later. Because rollout status can change, organizations should confirm access and current terms with Workday rather than treating the announcement’s projections as a release confirmation.
How can an external AI agent connect to Workday?
Workday describes Agent-Ready Tools as the connection layer. They use the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to make Workday tools available to agents, with the stated ability to read HR and finance data and carry out actions. Workday says agents inherit its security and delegation model, business-process controls, and audit trail.

That is Workday’s description of the intended governance design; the announcement does not provide independent test results demonstrating how those controls perform in particular deployments. Enterprises still need to decide which agents, users, data, and actions should be authorized in their own environment.
Workday also says developers can create actions beyond Workday using Pipedream connectors. That extends the integration concept beyond Workday’s own systems, but it does not mean every external service or action is automatically connected or approved.

What does Developer Agent do?
Developer Agent is aimed at people building Workday applications and agents. Rather than requiring developers to leave their preferred coding workflow to find platform resources, Workday says it can surface relevant Workday tools, APIs, documentation, tutorials, and patterns in agentic development environments.
The environments named by Workday are Claude Code, Cline, Codex, Cursor, and Google Antigravity. Developers can use plain-language instructions to create Workday apps and agents within those tools. Workday CTO Gabe Monroy said, “Platforms win when they make the hard thing disappear for the developer.” That is the company’s view of the product’s goal, not an independently measured result.

How Agent Passport fits into agent governance
Agent Passport is the verification and monitoring layer, separate from both building an agent and connecting it to Workday. Workday says its standards-based stamps identify which tests an agent passed, who verified it, and which standards were used. Named examples include OWASP LLM Top 10, NIST AI RMF, and MITRE ATLAS; Cisco was identified as the first attestation partner.
The announcement does not report comparative evaluations, detailed test outcomes, or evidence that an attestation guarantees an agent is safe in every use case. Organizations should treat Passport as a way to document and monitor verification, not as a substitute for their own risk assessment and operational controls.

How this fits Workday’s broader platform
Workday introduced a developer toolset in 2025 and subsequently described Workday Build as a platform for apps, agents, and orchestration. It has also announced a Workday Agent Partner Network intended to connect partner agents with its Agent System of Record. The new tools fit that broader direction: make it easier to build agents, give them controlled pathways into enterprise workflows, and provide a way to attest to and monitor them. The announcement frames the partner network as infrastructure for software vendors and implementation partners; it does not establish current enrollment criteria or commercial terms. Companies considering participation should verify program details directly with Workday.

What enterprises should evaluate
- Availability: Confirm whether each capability is accessible to your organization, since the announced schedules are projections and Agent Passport had a later planned rollout.
- Permissions and process controls: Map agent actions to approved roles, delegation rules, and business processes before enabling access.
- Auditability: Determine what activity records are available and how they fit existing review and incident-response practices.
- Verification scope: Ask what tests, standards, and monitoring apply to a particular agent; an attestation is not a universal guarantee.
- Integration boundaries: Establish which Workday data and external services an agent can reach, including any Pipedream-connected actions.
