CORSAIR’s RS-R fans use a reverse-rotor configuration so their RGB lighting remains visible from inside the case when they are mounted as intake. CORSAIR calls this a “reverse rotor” design; its product page does not say that the motor itself is reversed. The distinction matters: the feature changes the fan’s visible orientation for a cleaner intake-side appearance, not a documented motor specification.
Why intake fans can hide their RGB
Case fans move air in a direction, and the side visible from inside a case depends on how each fan is mounted. With a conventional fan used as intake, the side facing into the case may be the less attractive side, so the lighting can be obscured or less prominent from the viewing angle. CORSAIR says the RS120-R’s reverse-rotor arrangement keeps RGB clearly visible in that intake position. The company describes the purpose as “a flawless aesthetic as an intake fan.” CORSAIR’s RS120-R product page says its “reverse rotor fan design ensures your RGB lighting remains clearly visible when mounted as intake fans.”
What “reverse rotor” means—and what it does not
“Reverse rotor” is CORSAIR’s product terminology. It describes a fan configuration intended to provide the desired airflow while showing the preferred, illuminated side when the fan is installed as intake. The product information does not establish that the motor itself spins in reverse, so “reverse-motor fan” would be an unsupported technical description. The practical point is the rotor/fan arrangement and its appearance in the case, not a claim about motor direction.
What the RS120-R ARGB triple pack includes
The RS120-R ARGB is a 120mm PWM fan, and CORSAIR’s listed triple pack contains three fans and mounting screws. Before choosing it, check that your case has 120mm intake mounts and that your motherboard or controller provides the separate connections required for fan speed and lighting.

- Reverse Rotor for Flawless Lighting – Achieve your ideal aesthetic with reverse rotor fans ensuring the RGB lighting is fully visible, even when mounted as intake.
- Vibrant and Customizable ARGB Lighting – Eight LEDs per fan enable brilliant, customizable lighting that is controlled through your motherboard’s built-in ARGB control (requires compatible motherboard).
- Match your build – RS-R ARGB Fans are available in black or white to suit a variety of PC builds.
- Precise PWM Performance – Set your fan speeds up to 2,100 RPM while providing up to 65.8 CFM airflow to your system. Set the fan speeds lower when you need them to run quietly, or faster when you need to shift a lot of air.
- High Static Pressure – RS-R ARGB fans work well cooling radiators with a static pressure of 2.81 mm H2O to push through obstructions.
- Fan control: Daisy-chained 4-pin PWM connections.
- Lighting: Daisy-chained +5V ARGB connections and eight RGB LEDs per fan.
- Motherboard lighting examples: CORSAIR names ASUS Aura Sync, MSI Mystic Light, ASRock Polychrome RGB, and Gigabyte RGB Fusion.
Confirm that your board has a compatible 5V ARGB header before connecting lighting; a 5V ARGB connection is distinct from the 4-pin PWM fan connection. The listing also specifies a Magnetic Dome bearing, zero-RPM mode at low loads, a five-year fan warranty, and no iCUE LINK compatibility.

Use those numbers to understand the manufacturer’s stated operating range, not to conclude that the RS120-R outperforms another fan. A meaningful comparison would need equivalent independent test conditions and comparable installation setups.

Choose based on the side you want visible and the direction you need air to move. A reverse-rotor model is relevant when a fan will serve as intake and you want its lighting-facing side visible from inside the case. For other placements, check the intended airflow direction and appearance rather than assuming every reverse fan is the right option.

- Streamlined Fan Connections: Daisy-chain multiple fans together and control them all through just one 4-pin PWM connector and one +5V ARGB connector.
- Lighting Made Easy: Eight LEDs per fan shine bright with customisable lighting through your motherboard’s built-in ARGB control (requires compatible motherboard).
- Precise PWM Speeds: Set your fan speeds up to 2,100 RPM while providing up to 72.8 CFM airflow to your system.
- CORSAIR AirGuide Technology: Anti-vortex vanes direct airflow at your hottest components for concentrated cooling, pushing air in the direction you need when mounted to a radiator or heatsink.
- High Static Pressure: RS fans work well as radiator fans with a static pressure of 2.8mm-H2O to push through obstructions.
- Placement: Identify which case mounts will be intake and which will be exhaust.
- Viewing side: Decide which side should face into the case, especially for visible front or side intakes.
- Fit and connections: Verify 120mm clearance, a 4-pin PWM connection, and a compatible +5V ARGB header or controller.
- Performance: Compare published airflow, pressure, speed, and noise figures cautiously; manufacturer specifications are not a substitute for like-for-like testing.
CORSAIR also sells standard RS120 ARGB fans. Its iCUE LINK LX-R reverse-fan family is a separate product line. These families should not be treated as direct performance equivalents without comparative testing; check each listing for its own wiring, control ecosystem, and specifications.
