It tests five areas, led by agentic architecture and orchestration, and the current listing describes a 60-question, 120-minute exam. It is likely most useful to solution architects, technical consultants, and developers taking responsibility for end-to-end Claude system design—not people seeking only a general introduction to Claude.
What is the Claude Certified Architect certification?
Anthropic announced Claude Certified Architect – Foundations on March 12, 2026, describing it as “a technical exam for solution architects building production applications with Claude.” The initial announcement said it was available to partners. Anthropic’s current Academy catalog lists both Architect – Foundations and Architect – Professional, so “Claude Certified Architect” can refer to more than one level. Anthropic’s launch announcement and its Academy catalog provide the program context.
Foundations focuses on scoping and designing Claude-based solutions: choosing a model and deployment platform, deciding whether to use an agentic or single-shot design, and planning for evaluation, cost, and responsible deployment. Anthropic positions the broader Architect track for partners designing Claude solutions end to end. The published Foundations domains, below, give a more concrete view of the assessed scope.
What does the Foundations exam test?
Anthropic’s published blueprint assigns the exam’s coverage across five domains. The percentages describe domain weighting; they do not guarantee that a particular task or question will appear.

#1 Best Overall
| Exam domain | Weight | What the domain signals |
|---|---|---|
| Agentic Architecture & Orchestration | 27% | The largest domain; focuses the blueprint on designing and coordinating agentic systems. |
| Tool Design & MCP Integration | 18% | Includes tool integration and Model Context Protocol (MCP) considerations. |
| Claude Code Configuration & Workflows | 20% | Covers developer configuration and workflows involving Claude Code. |
| Prompt Engineering & Structured Output | 20% | Addresses prompt design and producing structured outputs. |
| Context Management & Reliability | 15% | Includes context choices and reliability concerns. |
The blueprint shows that Foundations is broader than basic API familiarity. Candidates need to reason across orchestration, tools and MCP, development workflows, prompting, structured output, context, and reliability. The detailed task-level breakdown within each domain is not established by the published summary cited here. See the official certification listing for the current blueprint.

Who should pursue Foundations?
The strongest likely fit is someone who must make and explain end-to-end design decisions for production Claude applications. That includes solution architects, technical consultants, and developers moving into architecture responsibility. This is a fit assessment based on the official role description and exam domains, not a formal eligibility rule.
Rank #3
- You choose between models, deployment platforms, and single-shot or agentic approaches.
- You design tool integrations, including MCP, and configure Claude Code workflows.
- You need to plan prompts, structured output, context, evaluation, cost, and reliability.
- You are responsible for how a Claude application is deployed and used responsibly.
It is less directly aligned with someone who wants only an introduction to Claude or everyday productivity skills. Anthropic lists a separate Associate credential for practical everyday Claude use in its certification catalog.
How Foundations differs from the Professional level
Anthropic’s current catalog lists Architect – Foundations and Architect – Professional as distinct certifications. Foundations is the level for which the exam domains and format above are published in the material cited here. The catalog establishes that Professional exists, but detailed Professional exam scope and requirements are not established here; do not infer them from the Foundations blueprint. Compare the live official guides before choosing a level.

How to prepare
Anthropic links free Academy learning resources for the subjects relevant to Claude implementation and use. The page says most candidates complete the courses before registering, but it does not say every course is mandatory.

Check registration eligibility before paying
The original March 12, 2026 announcement framed Foundations as initially available to partners, while the current Academy catalog lists the certification. The materials cited here do not establish a universal rule that every interested candidate either must be a partner or may register without partner status. Check the live registration flow for your eligibility before paying; do not assume the original launch restriction still applies unchanged.
Why it may matter to an Anthropic partner practitioner
The credential may have additional relevance inside a partner services practice. In a June 3, 2026 update, Anthropic said its Services Track evaluates firms partly by active certified practitioners, production customers, and public customer stories. The company reported that more than 40,000 firms had applied to join the Claude Partner Network and more than 10,000 consultants had earned a Claude certification. Anthropic also said its practitioner measure counts individuals with a current certification who have used Claude in the prior 90 days. These are dated company-reported figures, not independent market estimates; see the June 3 Services Track update.
Separately, Anthropic announced an initial $100 million commitment for partner training, technical support, and shared market development on March 12, 2026. This describes program investment, not a candidate benefit or a guarantee of work. The figure appears in the launch announcement.
