A particular processor may not support all three, and a Linux system’s configured base page size is distinct from a larger HugeTLB mapping. To identify what a system can use, check both its processor support and its kernel configuration.
What “page size” means on Arm64
In AArch64 memory management, a translation granule is the smallest block described by an entry at the final level of a translation table. Arm’s guide defines it as “the smallest block of memory that can be described.” The architecture specifies 4KB, 16KB, and 64KB granules, but that does not mean every processor implements every option. Support is implementation-defined and reported through the ID_AA64MMFR0_EL1 feature register. Arm’s AArch64 memory-management guide describes the granules and their support.
The term “page size” can also refer to a Linux kernel’s base page size, or to a larger mapping such as a HugeTLB page. Name which one you mean when comparing systems or interpreting a measurement.
How granules affect translation tables
The granule is not simply a label for a table that otherwise stays the same. The selected size changes translation-table indexing and the block sizes available at different levels. For example, the final-level mapping corresponds to the selected granule: 4KB, 16KB, or 64KB. Larger blocks can be described at earlier table levels, so seeing a large mapping does not by itself mean the system uses a larger base granule.

How Linux uses the base page size
On arm64 Linux, the base page size is a kernel configuration choice, and it influences the page-table depth and virtual-address layout. It is not a setting that should be assumed to change dynamically at runtime. The kernel documentation’s Memory Layout on AArch64 Linux for version 5.19 describes 4KB configurations with three or four table levels and 64KB configurations with two. It also notes that the optional ARMv8.2-LVA feature can affect the 64KB address-space case. These details are specific to the documented kernel version; consult documentation for the kernel build you are evaluating.
Linux arm64 documentation discusses base pages of 4KB, 16KB, and 64KB as well as larger HugeTLB mappings. The Linux documentation on a vmemmap diet for HugeTLB and Device DAX illustrates why base pages and large mappings should not be conflated.

How to check a processor and Linux system
Confirm processor support
For a specific processor, verify the granule support reported by ID_AA64MMFR0_EL1 using the processor’s documentation or an appropriate platform-level method. The architectural list alone is not proof that a device implements a given granule.
Confirm the running kernel’s configuration
Check the configuration and documentation for the exact kernel build running on the target system. Record its base page size and relevant address-space configuration rather than inferring them from the processor’s architectural capabilities. The available versioned Linux layout reference documents 4KB and 64KB cases for kernel 5.19; it does not establish the settings of every current distribution or device.

Choosing between 4KB, 16KB, and 64KB
There is no universal performance winner established by the architecture and Linux layout references. A larger base granule is not automatically faster, and a granule supported by the processor may still be unsuitable if the operating system, binaries, ABI, or deployment software is incompatible.
