Possibly—but Commodore has not announced an Amiga computer. Commodore is again a rights-owning, product-selling company, while Amiga remains under separate ownership. Agreements announced by Amiga Corporation in August 2026 make some licensing relationships clearer, but they are not a launch announcement for a “Commodore Amiga Ultimate.”
What does “Commodore is back” mean?
Commodore says it completed its acquisition of Commodore Corporation and 47 surviving original Commodore trademarks on July 31, 2025. That gives the present company a basis to sell products and publish under the Commodore name; it does not mean every historic brand or asset associated with Commodore came with the deal.
There is also activity beyond a trademark claim. In a 2026 update, Commodore said it had manufactured more than 30,000 new Commodore 64 computers and added more than 10,000 officially endorsed titles to its CommoServe service. Its stated strategy pairs retro products with future-facing projects and community licensing. Those figures and plans come from Commodore, rather than an independent audit or a promise of future Amiga hardware.
Does Commodore own Amiga now?
No. The companies describe their present rights as separate. Amiga Corporation’s August 2026 update says it owns the Amiga marks and historical Commodore/Amiga copyrights, while recognizing that Commodore owns the Commodore and C= marks. The distinction matters: control of the Commodore name does not by itself grant control of the Amiga name, Amiga software, or AmigaOS.

| Area | What the companies say | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Commodore and C= trademarks | Owned by the present Commodore company following its acquisition, completed July 31, 2025. | Commodore International Corporation, 2025; Amiga Corporation, August 2026 |
| Amiga marks and historical software rights | Retained by Amiga Corporation, which says the Commodore and C= marks took a separate path after Escom’s 1996 liquidation. | Amiga Corporation, August 2026 |
| CBM 8-bit software and documentation | Amiga says it licenses these materials to Commodore. | Amiga Corporation, August 2026 |
| AmigaOS 4 | Hyperion Entertainment will continue developing and distributing it under license. | Amiga Corporation, August 2026 |
That division reflects a long, fragmented rights history, not a single transfer of everything bearing either name. The August 2026 update and settlement clarify particular ownership and licensing relationships; they should not be read as a blanket assignment of Amiga to Commodore.
Do the agreements make a new Amiga more likely?
They remove some practical uncertainty, but do not establish that Commodore will build an Amiga. A project using the Amiga name or historical software would need the relevant rights and licenses, and hardware makers would still have to decide what to build and support. Amiga says it licenses technology and trademarks for hardware, software, publications, events, and other projects; its listed licensees include Commodore, Hyperion Entertainment, Retro Games, Cloanto, A1200.NET, Antstream Arcade, Blaze Entertainment, Simulant Systems, and SpecNext.

The operating-system arrangements are specific, too. Hyperion’s AmigaOS 4 work continues under license. For 68K AmigaOS, Amiga says Hyperion’s transitional rights are limited to upgrades 3.2 and 3.3 for existing licensed systems, with distribution ending no later than December 31, 2027; Amiga says it will direct future 68K development. This provides context for software licensing, not a specification or compatibility guarantee for an unannounced machine.
So “the legal path is clearer” is supported; “the Amiga is confirmed” is not. No Commodore Amiga Ultimate launch date, hardware specifications, price, or commitment is established in the available company statements and reporting.

What Amiga-related products are actually on the table?
Alien Breed: a Commodore publishing project
The clearest Amiga-linked move from Commodore so far is a publishing project, not new hardware. GamesRadar reported that the Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection brings together all six games for PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC, with a September 24, 2026 release date. That date has passed, but the information available here does not establish current store availability or whether every platform version launched as scheduled.
The collection marks Commodore’s return to game publishing and is a revival of Amiga-associated software. It does not mean Commodore owns Amiga, and a game collection is not evidence of an Amiga computer announcement. Antstream Arcade, an Amiga licensee, is also identified as a collaborator on the ports.
The A1200 remake: separate from Commodore
GamesRadar has also cited an upcoming A1200 remake, a physical keyboard computer, at an Amazon-linked price of $189.99. The reporting describes it as a separate product, not a confirmed Commodore machine. The material available here does not establish its release date or current availability, so treat the quoted price as a reported listing rather than a guarantee of today’s price.
In other words, the A1200 remake may be relevant to someone seeking an Amiga-style machine, but its existence does not show that Commodore is making an Amiga Ultimate. Brand, maker, licensing, and product are separate questions.

What would confirm a Commodore Amiga?
A meaningful confirmation would need to identify who is making the product and under what rights, rather than relying on a name or retro styling alone. If Commodore announces hardware, these details will distinguish a licensed Amiga project from a separate remake or an emulator-based computer:
- Maker and license: Is the product made by Commodore or a separate licensee, and which Amiga marks or software are licensed?
- Hardware approach: Is it FPGA-based hardware or software emulation? Those approaches differ, and the word “Amiga” alone does not tell you which is used.
- Software and compatibility: Which operating system, games, and applications are included or supported? Do not assume AmigaOS support from the case design or keyboard layout.
- Availability: Is there a firm release date and a stated region, or only a roadmap or announcement?
- Price and scope: Are the price and included software official, and are they for the same version and market you plan to buy?
Until those specifics appear in an announcement, the practical answer is that Amiga could be next, but no Commodore Amiga computer has been confirmed.
