Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →“Picsort” can refer to different products, so there isn’t one confirmed tool or feature set to describe under that name. If you want to review photos and route them into folders, options include a desktop photo-culling app, browser-based keyboard sorting utilities, and a separate event-photo service that finds images of a person.
What does “Picsort” mean?
The name is ambiguous. Picsort.app describes an event-photo service: upload a folder or ZIP file, then use face recognition to find and display pictures in which a person appears. That is different from manually sorting a collection into destination folders.
Two separate projects better match the folder-sorting task: PhotoSort, a desktop application for reviewing and culling photos, and Picsorta, a browser-based utility for routing images into up to four folders with arrow keys. Image Sort is another project for manual folder routing. These are distinct products; their features should not be treated as features of one official “Picsort” release.
Which kind of image sorting do you need?
| Tool | Best fit | How it works | Deployment and formats |
|---|---|---|---|
| PhotoSort | Reviewing a photo folder, culling unwanted shots, and collecting favorites. | Its documented workflow includes Organize, Easy Delete, Fix Rotation, Pick Best, and Cull; it also describes finding blurry shots, duplicates, and similar photos. | Desktop application distributed through GitHub releases. Listed formats include JPEG, PNG, TIFF, WebP, and many camera RAW formats. |
| Picsorta | Quick manual routing into as many as four chosen destinations. | Assign destinations such as Best, Delete, Maybe, and Family to arrow keys; press a key to move the current image. | Browser-based; the site says no installation or account is required. Listed formats include JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, BMP, TIFF, SVG, AVIF, and ICO. |
| Image Sort | Manual sorting into selected folders. | Select a folder, skip the current image, or move it to a highlighted destination folder. | Not stated in the project description. |
| Picsort.app | Finding a person’s pictures in event-photo collections, rather than sorting images into folders. | Upload a folder or ZIP file; face recognition finds and displays pictures in which the person appears. | Upload-based workflow. Supported formats and other deployment details are not stated here. |
How to sort images into folders safely
1. Choose a tool for the job
Use a culling workflow if you need to compare similar shots, identify blurry images, or decide what to keep. Choose manual routing if the main task is assigning each image to a destination such as “Best,” “Family,” or “Delete.” If you need to find a person across event photos, Picsort.app describes that separate face-recognition workflow.

2. Set up destination folders
Before sorting, decide on a small, clear set of destinations. For example, “Keep,” “Review,” and “Delete” are easier to apply consistently than many overlapping categories. Preserve the original collection until you have checked that the sorted output is complete.
3. Review one image at a time
Inspect each image at a useful size. For near-duplicates, compare focus, expression, framing, and motion blur rather than keeping several almost identical shots by default. If using Picsorta, its described workflow is to assign arrow keys to destinations and press the relevant key for the current image; Image Sort’s description instead has you select or highlight a destination folder.

What to check before choosing a tool
- Where images are processed: PhotoSort is presented as a desktop app, Picsorta as browser-based, and Picsort.app’s event-photo flow involves uploading a folder or ZIP. These descriptions alone do not establish detailed storage, retention, or privacy terms.
- Format compatibility: Check the individual tool’s supported-format list, especially if your collection includes camera RAW files, sidecars, or less common formats. The format lists above belong to separate products and are not interchangeable.
- Safety and recovery: Look for a clear preview, undo behavior, and a way to restore moved files before routing a large or irreplaceable collection. The cited feature descriptions do not establish consistent safeguards.
- Automation versus control: Folder-routing tools ask you to make the decision image by image. PhotoSort additionally describes help with finding blurry shots, duplicates, and similar photos; Picsort.app uses face recognition for finding a person in event photos. These are different kinds of assistance, not evidence of equivalent automated sorting.
