The article’s headline gives a different power figure—1.3 MW—so the two should not be treated as matching claims.
What did Internap add in phase two?
Data Center Knowledge reported that phase two added 13,000 square feet and 1.4 MW of power capacity. The report says this matched phase one, doubling the capacity attributed to that initial phase. Its headline, however, says phase two added 1.3 MW; the article body uses 1.4 MW. The discrepancy is present in the source, and the body figure is the one used here for the reported expansion details. Data Center Knowledge, October 6, 2014.
Internap’s own October 2014 account said the two phases were expected to provide a combined 5.6 MW at full utilization. That is a projected combined capacity at full utilization, not the amount added by phase two or a claim about present-day capacity. Internap, October 3, 2014.
How the expansion fit the New York metro market
Internap opened the Secaucus site in December 2013 as a hybrid data center serving the New York metro market. The opening report described a planned capability of up to 18 kW per rack. Data Center Knowledge, December 11, 2013.

By 2014, Internap said some customers at the facility were drawing 15 kW per rack. The company also reported average actual power draw of more than 150 watts per square foot. These figures describe different things: kilowatts per rack refer to power draw at certain customer racks, while watts per square foot describe average power draw across an area. The 18 kW figure was a stated capability at opening; it should not be read as the average draw or as a figure reached by every rack.
Michael Frank, then Internap’s vice president of data center services, said of the average power draw per square foot: “Based on the circuits in the installation queue, it will only go higher.” The quotation reflected the company’s 2014 expectation, not a measured later outcome. What services did the facility support?
Internap described the Secaucus data center as supporting colocation, managed hosting, and cloud computing. In practical terms, that made the expansion relevant to customers seeking space and power for their own equipment as well as customers using hosted or cloud services. The 2014 report also noted the site’s higher elevation as a consideration in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy; it did not provide a quantified flood-risk assessment.

Evocative announced that it closed on the majority of INAP data-center assets in September 2022 and included New Jersey among the markets in its portfolio. That is portfolio-level acquisition context; it does not establish whether the specific Secaucus facility is operating today, who currently operates it, what capacity it has, or whether space is available.
