KIOXIA announced the EXCERIA PRO G2 on December 10, 2025, describing it as the company’s fastest personal SSD to date. The PCIe 5.0 NVMe 2.0d M.2 2280 drive is listed in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities, with manufacturer-rated sequential speeds reaching 14,900 MB/s read and 13,700 MB/s write on the 4TB model.

KIOXIA’s listed maximum speeds vary by capacity. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent benchmark results.

The product uses BiCS FLASH TLC memory and supports PCI Express 5.0 and NVMe 2.0d. KIOXIA lists the 1TB and 2TB versions as M.2 Type 2280-S3-M and the 4TB version as M.2 Type 2280-S4-M. All are M.2 2280 drives. KIOXIA’s product page and product brief provide the specifications.
What the speed ratings do—and don’t—tell you
KIOXIA says the sequential-speed figures are best values from a specific test environment and that results can vary with the host device, software, and read/write conditions. Its product brief likewise qualifies the tested power-efficiency result as specific to KIOXIA’s test environment. Treat the headline numbers as rating ceilings, not a guarantee of the speed you will see in your PC.

Sequential throughput is one part of storage performance. The ratings alone do not establish how much faster a particular game will load or how much editing time the drive will save; those outcomes depend on the workload and the rest of the system. No independent benchmark results are established by KIOXIA’s announcement materials.
Check your PC before choosing a capacity
Before buying, verify the drive’s physical fit and the interface you intend to use:

- Slot: The drive is M.2 2280. Check that your motherboard or PC has an available M.2 2280 M-key slot.
- Interface: PCIe 5.0 support is needed to target the advertised interface generation. Confirm the slot and system support the drive; the listed interface does not mean it is compatible with every PCIe 5.0 system.
- Clearance and cooling: Check the slot’s physical clearance and cooling arrangements in your specific system.
- Capacity: Choose among 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB based on your storage needs and the version your system can accommodate.
KIOXIA offers SSD Utility software for maintenance and monitoring. The drive sits in the company’s professional tier; KIOXIA also lists the EXCERIA G3 and EXCERIA PLUS G4 in its PCIe 5.0 portfolio. A meaningful comparison should account for capacity, rated speeds, form factor, warranty and endurance where relevant, and system compatibility—not just the fastest quoted number. KIOXIA’s portfolio and product information are the appropriate starting point.

KIOXIA announced the EXCERIA PRO G2 on December 10, 2025. Its Singapore announcement scheduled availability in the APAC region for December 2025, while KIOXIA’s Japan release said domestic sales would begin sequentially from late January 2026. These are different regional schedules, not a universal retail date or confirmation of current stock.

In Japan, Buffalo handles sales and product support for KIOXIA-branded personal SSD products. For current availability, check the relevant local retailer or regional product channel; the cited announcements do not establish a price or present-day inventory.
KIOXIA Europe’s announcement quoted Paul Rowan, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at KIOXIA Europe: “For gamers, creators, and tech enthusiasts, storage performance is no longer just a technical metric; it’s a critical component of the experience,” the December 10, 2025 release announced the product and its positioning.
