BPing is a Windows command-line ping utility that adds sound to network checks: by default, it beeps when a ping receives a reply, and its failure-alert options can beep when a ping fails. It can also scan a local address range. Gizmoware lists version 2.2, dated January 10, 2020, so its current Windows compatibility and support should not be assumed.
What is BPing?
Gizmoware describes BPing (pronounced “beeping”) as a Windows ping alternative that beeps whenever it gets replies. It is a small command-line utility distributed as a ZIP: download it, unzip it, and run it. The Gizmoware author says the idea came from working under desks with network cables and wanting to hear ping status without looking at the monitor. Gizmoware’s BPing page documents its behavior and listed release.
BPing is not the separate hyang0/bping project, which is a Python GUI/CLI subnet scanner. The similar names refer to different tools.
How do you make ping beep when a connection drops?
Use BPing’s failure-alert switches. Its documented -d option beeps only when a ping fails. The -dd option additionally limits console output to failures, which can make an intermittent-loss check easier to monitor without continuously reading replies.

For the opposite behavior, the default is to beep when a ping receives a reply. BPing can use its default sound, a WAV file, or the computer’s internal speaker; use -q to suppress the beep. The Gizmoware page lists options for specifying a count (-n), timeout (-t), timestamps (-u), and volume (-v), but consult that page for the exact syntax before running a command.
Can BPing test an internet connection?
According to Gizmoware’s documentation, running bping without arguments pings Google DNS at 8.8.8.8 and beeps when no reply is received. That can indicate whether this particular target is replying to pings from your computer; it cannot, on its own, identify why a connection is having trouble. A missing reply from one target is not a complete diagnosis of an internet outage.

Can BPing scan a local network?
Yes. BPing’s documented -s option scans a local address range. The -a option includes addresses that are not replying, while -r attempts hostname resolution. The -m option provides minimal scan output. These features can help check address reachability, but the documentation does not establish BPing as a full network inventory or diagnostic suite.
Does BPing work on Windows 10 or Windows 11?
Gizmoware lists BPing v2.2, dated January 10, 2020, and does not provide a current Windows compatibility matrix or recent security review. Its page’s setup notes refer to administrative rights for Windows 7/8/10 and XP compatibility mode for Vista; those dated notes do not verify compatibility with current Windows releases. Do not assume that BPing has been tested on Windows 11, and follow current Windows security guidance rather than changing elevation settings based only on old instructions.

How does BPing compare with other Windows ping tools?
BPing is aimed at simple audible reachability alerts and basic scanning. Other tools may fit better when you need more measurements or a visual troubleshooting workflow.

Choose BPing when the specific need is to hear replies or failures while using a lightweight command-line tool. PsPing documents TCP and bandwidth testing in addition to ICMP checks. PingPlotter is the more visually oriented option when you need to examine latency, packet loss, or jitter over time. Their features and licensing differ, so the best fit depends on whether you need a sound alert, additional test types, or a monitoring interface.
