The clearest deal is Nvidia’s $2 billion investment in Marvell, announced alongside a strategic partnership on March 31, 2026. It is an investment and collaboration, not an acquisition. Marvell also acquired switching-chip company XConn Technologies in February. Arista, by contrast, announced a new AI networking portfolio; the available announcements do not establish an Arista corporate deal. Together, these moves show vendors pursuing different but overlapping layers of AI data-center networking—not one unified network or a proven performance winner.

Which deals are actually documented?

Nvidia invested in Marvell and formed a partnership

Nvidia announced a $2 billion investment in Marvell on March 31, 2026, and said the companies would collaborate through NVLink Fusion. Marvell’s SEC filing says the transaction was completed that day through the issuance of Series A convertible preferred stock. That makes “investment and partnership” the accurate description, rather than “Nvidia acquired Marvell.”

The announced scope connects Marvell custom XPUs and NVLink Fusion-compatible scale-up networking to Nvidia’s AI factory and AI-RAN ecosystem. The announcement also names collaboration on silicon photonics and AI-RAN for 5G and 6G. These are stated areas of partnership, not proof that every component is already shipping together in production.

Marvell acquired XConn

Marvell’s Form 10-Q reports that it completed its acquisition of XConn Technologies on February 10, 2026. Marvell describes XConn as a provider of PCIe and CXL switching silicon and says the acquisition expands its switching portfolio and augments its UALink scale-up switch team. This is a separate corporate transaction from Nvidia’s investment in Marvell.

Arista announced products, not a documented corporate deal

Arista’s June 9, 2026 announcement introduced its 7060XE7 Series 1.6T portfolio for rack-scale AI infrastructure, spanning scale-up and scale-out fabrics. It identifies Broadcom Tomahawk 6 silicon and emphasizes Arista’s EOS software and systems approach. The cited Arista material establishes a product strategy, not a transaction with Nvidia or Marvell. The headline’s reference to “Arista deals” should therefore not be read as evidence of an Arista acquisition or investment.

How the network layers fit together

AI data-center networking is not a single switch-speed contest. Scale-up connections link accelerators or tightly coupled systems; scale-out networks connect systems across a larger fabric; optical interconnect helps move data over distance. A supplier may contribute chips, links, switches, software, or a combination. The announcements place these companies across some of the same layers, but do not make their offerings interchangeable.

Company Announced position Evidence and qualification
Nvidia Integrated AI infrastructure platform, including NVLink Fusion and named compute and networking components. Nvidia’s March 31, 2026 announcement names Vera CPUs, ConnectX NICs, BlueField DPUs, NVLink, Spectrum-X switches, and rack-scale AI compute. These are announced platform components; the announcement does not establish joint deployment of every component with Marvell.
Marvell Custom silicon and connectivity, including custom XPUs, scale-up networking, optical interconnect, and switching. In a September 9, 2026 portfolio announcement, Marvell described its Teralynx T100 as a 102 Tbps Ethernet switch device. That is a vendor specification, not an independent end-to-end performance result.
Arista AI fabric systems for scale-up and scale-out, combining switching silicon, systems, and EOS software. Arista’s June 9, 2026 announcement describes the 7060XE7 Series with Broadcom Tomahawk 6 silicon. Its August 4, 2026 results release describes 1.6 Tbps AI fabric options, including liquid-cooled choices; these are company descriptions.

What changes in the competitive landscape?

Nvidia extends its platform around custom silicon

NVLink Fusion is the connective idea in the Nvidia–Marvell announcement: the stated aim is to let Marvell custom silicon participate in a rack-scale ecosystem built around Nvidia connectivity. This broadens the kinds of components the platform can accommodate while keeping Nvidia’s own compute and networking technologies central to the announced stack. It does not, by itself, establish how open, widely interoperable, or broadly adopted the resulting systems will be.

Marvell adds breadth across switches and interconnect

Marvell’s partnership and XConn acquisition point to a role that spans more than one component category: custom silicon, scale-up networking, PCIe/CXL switching, Ethernet switching, and optical technologies. Its September portfolio announcement gives one concrete example in Teralynx T100. Marvell has not quantified customer uptake in the cited announcements, so portfolio breadth should not be mistaken for evidence of market share or deployment scale.

Arista emphasizes fabric systems and software

Arista’s 7060XE7 announcement positions the company around high-speed AI fabric systems, with EOS software as part of the offering rather than treating a switch chip alone as the product. In its August 4, 2026 results release, Arista reported its first quarter above $3 billion in revenue; that is a company-reported financial result, not independent evidence of AI-network market share. The same release described liquid-cooled 1.6 Tbps AI fabric options.

What the headline figures do—and do not—tell you

The announced figures describe different things, so they cannot be lined up as a direct performance ranking. Nvidia’s $2 billion is an investment amount; Marvell’s 102 Tbps is a vendor specification for a switch device; Arista’s 1.6 Tbps is a vendor description of AI fabric platforms. None is a neutral measurement of a complete deployed network under a shared workload.

What buyers and infrastructure watchers should watch next

  • Shipping configurations: whether announced components become available together in production systems, and in which configurations.
  • Interoperability: how custom silicon and scale-up links work with the surrounding network, including relevant standards and vendor ecosystems.
  • Whole-system behavior: performance under real workloads, alongside power, cooling, latency, and reliability—not just peak bandwidth labels.
  • Deployment evidence: named customer installations or independently reported adoption, rather than portfolio announcements alone.

The announcements document strategic intent and product positioning. They do not yet settle which approach performs best or how widely each will be deployed.
