Amazon Music Maestro is real, but it is not a new 2026 launch. Amazon introduced the AI playlist generator on April 16, 2024, initially as a limited U.S. beta for selected Free, Prime, and Unlimited customers on iOS and Android. You describe a mood, activity, era, genre, situation, or theme—and Maestro creates a playlist. Amazon later said all Amazon Music tiers have access, although it has not published a current, universal rollout or a guaranteed app path for every country and account. Its newer Alexa+ experience now offers a broader conversational way to create and manage playlists in the Amazon Music app.
What Amazon Music Maestro does
Maestro is Amazon Music’s prompt-driven AI playlist generator. Instead of choosing every song manually, you enter or speak an idea and let the service assemble tracks from Amazon Music’s catalog. Amazon’s launch description called it an “AI playlist generator”; “Personal AI Playlist Assistant” is a useful description, not Amazon’s formal product name. The feature was announced April 16, 2024, under the Project Maestro branding. Amazon’s announcement shows prompts involving nostalgia, shower singing, cowboy or desert themes, emotions, and activities.
Prompts can combine:
- Moods or emotions
- Activities and occasions
- Genres, artists, eras, or languages
- Situations, sounds, and themes
- Emojis or conversational descriptions
This is more specific than a conventional “Made for you” recommendation shelf, but Amazon has not publicly detailed Maestro’s underlying model, ranking system, training data, or exactly how listening history is weighted.
How to create a Maestro playlist
Amazon’s documented launch workflow was mobile-only. App labels can change, and access varies by account, country, operating system, and app version.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Install or update the Amazon Music app on iOS or Android.
- If your account is eligible, look for Maestro on the home screen or tap the plus sign used to create a playlist.
- Type or speak a request.
- Tap Let’s go!
- Play the generated playlist, then save or share it.
If Maestro is not visible, do not assume the feature has been discontinued. It may be unavailable to your account or region, moved in the current app, or overshadowed by Alexa+.
Prompt examples that give the system useful constraints
- “Upbeat 1980s pop for cleaning the house”
- “A rainy Sunday playlist with piano-led indie songs”
- “Energetic instrumental music for a 45-minute workout”
- “French café music with no modern pop”
- “Nostalgic alternative rock from the late 1990s”
Specificity adds constraints, but it does not guarantee an accurate or expertly curated result. Naming an anchor artist or song can help clarify a reference; exclusions such as “no vocals” or “no explicit lyrics” may help when the current interface supports them.

Who can use Maestro, and what can they play?
The original rollout was a beta for a subset of U.S. customers on Free/ad-supported, Prime, and Unlimited tiers, using the iOS and Android apps. Amazon’s later Amazon Music explainer says all subscription tiers have access to Maestro. That later statement does not establish guaranteed worldwide availability, web-player or desktop support, or access for every account.
| Tier | Documented launch behavior | What is uncertain today |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Music Unlimited | Could listen to generated playlists immediately and save them. | Current account and regional rules can differ. |
| Prime | Could receive 30-second previews before saving. | Do not assume unrestricted on-demand playback. |
| Free/ad-supported | Could receive 30-second previews before saving. | Current preview, shuffle, and ad rules should be checked in the app. |
Amazon’s plan FAQ describes Prime playback as more restricted than Unlimited, including shuffle-based listening in many contexts and on-demand access limited to selected All-Access Playlists. A generated playlist therefore does not automatically mean every tier can play every track on demand.

Is Maestro still a standalone feature?
Amazon continues to reference Maestro in current product material, so it should not be described as definitively discontinued or renamed. However, Amazon has not published a fresh Maestro-specific rollout notice or a stable current menu path. The safest description is that Maestro remains an Amazon-referenced feature while Alexa+ now covers much of the same use case with a more conversational interface. That is an evidence-based reading of Amazon’s product descriptions, not an official replacement announcement.
What Alexa+ adds
In an announcement dated November 4, 2025, Amazon described Alexa+ as a broader music assistant in the Amazon Music app. For U.S.-based customers, Amazon says Alexa+ is available across subscription tiers at no additional cost in the iOS and Android apps. It can:

Those are Amazon-reported figures, not independent measurements. Read Amazon’s Alexa+ announcement.

Spotify’s cited expansion covered the United States, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand for Premium users. Spotify’s announcement documents its preview, deletion, refinement, and saving workflow. These published descriptions support an access-and-controls comparison, not a winner: current catalog fit and quality require transparent hands-on testing.

When the generated playlist misses the point
Amazon warned that the new technology would not always get the result right on the first try and said systems were in place to block offensive language and inappropriate prompts. Common problems include literal interpretations of metaphors, genre matches that miss the requested mood, repetitive or obvious songs, misunderstood cultural references, unavailable tracks, and prompts that are blocked or sanitized.
- Shorten a complicated request and separate unrelated requirements.
- Name one or two anchor artists or songs.
- Add a clear activity, era, energy level, or language.
- Try an exclusion such as “no vocals” where supported.
- Remove or add tracks manually after generation.
- Check whether your tier or region permits full playback.
- Try Alexa+ if it is available in your U.S. Amazon Music app.
Results can also vary with catalog rights, subscription access, account history, and region. Amazon describes Amazon Music Unlimited as personalizing recommendations from listening habits, but it has not explained how strongly those signals influence Maestro prompts.
Does Unlimited justify an upgrade for Maestro?
Not by itself. The practical reason to move from Free or Prime to Unlimited is unrestricted, on-demand playback and broader catalog access; AI playlist generation is documented across Amazon Music tiers. Amazon’s current signup page showed $11.99 per month for non-Prime customers and $10.99 per month for Prime members after the displayed promotional period when reviewed. Offers can change, and taxes, billing channel, location, and Prime status affect the final price. Check the live signup page before subscribing.
Prime includes Amazon Music access, but its value should be judged alongside shipping, video, books, and other Prime benefits—not as a purchase made solely for Maestro. Amazon’s FAQ lists a 100-million-song Unlimited catalog and explains plan restrictions at amazon.com/music/i/faq.
Recommended Free Tools
Bottom line: which Amazon AI music tool should you use?
Use Maestro when it appears in your Amazon Music app and you want a fast, one-shot playlist from a natural-language idea. Try Alexa+ when you want follow-up conversation, saved and renamed playlists, later track additions, or music questions. Both are best treated as starting points rather than guaranteed editorial curation. If you need exact, highly verified sequencing—or your plan only permits previews or shuffle playback—review the tracks and your playback rights before relying on the result.
