To show a site-wide list of recent comments on your WordPress homepage, add the Latest Comments block to the page, template, or widget area that actually renders the homepage. First check whether your front page shows latest posts, a static page, or a block-theme template; the right place to add the block depends on that setup.
Choose the right comments display
WordPress has two blocks that serve different purposes. Use Latest Comments for a site-wide list of recent comments. Use the Comments block when you want the comment thread and form for the individual post or page being displayed.
| What you want to show | Use | Where it belongs |
|---|---|---|
| Recent comments from across the site | Latest Comments block | The homepage page, template, template part, or widget area |
| The thread and comment form for the current post or page | Comments block | The relevant post or page template |
WordPress describes the Latest Comments block as a way to display recent comments. The Comments block is an advanced block for a content item’s comment section, with elements such as a Comments Title, Comment Template, Comment Pagination, and Post Comments Form.
Find what renders your homepage
Check the Reading setting
In your dashboard, open Settings → Reading and look at the homepage display option. WordPress can show your latest posts or a selected static page as the front page. The Reading settings guide explains these options.
#1 Best Overall
If your homepage is a static page
Open the selected page under Pages and edit it, or edit the template assigned to it. WordPress’s static front page guide covers choosing a Homepage and, optionally, a separate Posts page.
If you use a block theme
Go to Appearance → Editor → Templates and inspect the homepage-related template. If a Front Page template exists, WordPress uses it for the front page regardless of the Reading setting. Add the block to the template or an appropriate template part rather than editing a page that the template does not use. The Site Editor guide explains block-theme customization; Query Loop and Post Template blocks control lists of posts, but they are not substitutes for Latest Comments.
Rank #2
If your homepage shows latest posts
Identify the template or widget area that displays the posts homepage, then place Latest Comments in that shared layout. If you cannot identify the active area, check the theme’s homepage template and available widget areas before editing; changing an unrelated page will not change the public homepage.
Add the Latest Comments block
- Open the page, template, template part, or widget area used by the homepage.
- Select the block inserter (+) and search for Latest Comments. In the editor, you can also type
/latest-comments. - Insert the block and set how many comments to display. Choose whether to show commenter avatars, comment dates, and excerpts.
- Save or update the page or template, then open the public homepage and check the block’s placement and appearance.
WordPress documents Latest Comments as available in a template, template part, page, or widget area; the exact editing screen depends on your theme and homepage setup.

Check comment settings if nothing appears
Displaying recent comments and accepting new comments are separate outcomes. If the block is present but expected comments or a comment form are missing, check the relevant post or page’s discussion settings and your site’s moderation status. WordPress’s comments guide explains Discussion settings and per-content controls. Comments must be enabled for the relevant content, and comments awaiting moderation will not appear as approved comments.
Quick Recap
Best Value
Rank #4
- The block is missing from the homepage: Confirm you edited the active front-page page or template, not a different page.
- The block appears but does not show the expected comments: Check whether the comments are approved and whether the comments belong to content where commenting is enabled.
- You want a thread under a particular post: Use the Comments block in the post’s template rather than Latest Comments.
