The simplest way to show a different quote in a WordPress sidebar is to use a quote plugin’s widget. With XV Random Quotes, install and activate the plugin, add its widget in Appearance > Widgets, choose the display settings, and save. If your theme uses a block-based layout or you need to place the quote elsewhere, the plugin also documents a Gutenberg block and shortcode.
Option 1: Add the XV Random Quotes widget
- Install and activate XV Random Quotes. Find the plugin in your WordPress dashboard under Plugins > Add New, install it, then activate it. See the XV Random Quotes plugin listing for its current details.
- Open the widget editor. Go to Appearance > Widgets. Select the sidebar or other widget area where you want the quote.
- Add the XV Random Quotes widget. Configure the available category and display options. The plugin listing documents category filtering, random or sequential ordering, and optional quote rotation through AJAX.
- Save and check the result. View a page that uses the selected sidebar. Confirm that the quote appears as expected and that any rotation setting works with your site’s theme and caching setup.
Widget controls and labels can vary with the WordPress version and theme. Check the plugin’s current listing if the editor or options differ from these steps.
Choose a placement method that fits your theme

A block or shortcode can still appear in a sidebar if your theme or widget editor supports that placement. If the editor does not offer the placement you need, use the plugin’s documented widget or choose a plugin whose documented methods suit your setup.
