Four board families have enough documented hardware detail to make a useful starting shortlist for browser automation: Raspberry Pi 5, Orange Pi 5 Plus, Radxa ROCK 5B/5B+, and Banana Pi BPI-M7. The available specifications do not support a reliable list of ten, a performance ranking, or a claim about how many browser sessions any board can run. Choose by exact model, RAM, Linux and browser compatibility, storage, and your own workload tests—not core counts alone.
This is a hardware comparison, not a benchmark. Manufacturer specifications establish listed capabilities and operating-system options; they do not prove that a particular Playwright or Selenium setup works, performs well, or stays cool under sustained use.
How to choose an SBC for browser automation
A browser automation host must run more than a script: it also needs a Linux environment, a browser and its dependencies, the automation runtime and driver, and the pages being controlled. Parallel pages or browser contexts add load. A board’s RAM capacity is therefore a useful first filter, but the published specifications here do not establish a universal minimum or a safe number of concurrent sessions.
Check software compatibility before buying
- Confirm that a maintained Linux image is available for the exact board and revision you plan to use.
- Check that the browser package, automation runtime, browser driver, and any container image you need support that image and processor architecture.
- Verify the versions together. A 64-bit Arm processor does not, by itself, establish compatibility for every browser, driver, framework, or container.
The manufacturer OS listings are useful leads, not blanket compatibility guarantees. This matters especially if you depend on a particular Playwright or Selenium setup: no specific framework-and-board combination is established by the specifications summarized here.

Plan the whole build, not just the board
Compare the exact RAM SKU, storage connector and any required adapter, networking and USB needs, image-update path, and documentation. Include power, cooling, enclosure, storage, adapters, and shipping in the total build cost. Current comparable prices and stock are not established here, so check current listings and the board maker’s requirements before ordering parts.

How the candidates differ in practice
Raspberry Pi 5: a baseline to investigate
The Pi 5 has a documented 64-bit quad-core Cortex-A76 processor and multiple LPDDR4X capacities, including 16 GB. Its manufacturer describes M.2 SSD use through an add-on, so storage planning includes checking that add-on rather than assuming the board itself provides a directly usable M.2 slot. Those specifications make it a plausible baseline for a small Linux automation host; they do not show how fast it will run your scripts.
Raspberry Pi’s 2023 launch announcement quoted US launch prices of $60 for the 4 GB variant and $80 for the 8 GB variant, plus local taxes. Those were historical announced prices, not current retail prices or a current estimate of total build cost. Raspberry Pi’s 2023 launch announcement.

Orange Pi 5 Plus: compare its listed interfaces and images
The Orange Pi 5 Plus pairs four Cortex-A76 and four Cortex-A55 cores with manufacturer-listed 4, 8, and 16 GB memory configurations. Its listed M.2 2280 slot and eMMC socket give it storage options to compare against your project, while dual 2.5 GbE may matter if your deployment needs wired networking. The manufacturer lists Orange Pi OS, Android 12, Debian 11, and Ubuntu 22.04; that list is not proof that every image has the browser packages, drivers, or framework support you need.
Radxa ROCK 5B and 5B+: compare the exact variant
Radxa’s documentation identifies the ROCK 5B and 5B+ as RK3588-based single-board computers, but memory options differ across variants. Treat the model name as the beginning of the compatibility check, not a complete specification: verify the exact board and revision, its RAM and expansion details, and the Linux image and dependencies you plan to deploy.
Banana Pi BPI-M7: a documented higher-memory option
The BPI-M7 documentation lists 8, 16, and 32 GB RAM configurations, an RK3588 with four Cortex-A76 and four Cortex-A55 cores, an M.2 Key M interface, and dual 2.5 GbE. A higher-capacity RAM option can be attractive when you expect several pages or contexts to coexist, but it does not establish a particular concurrency limit. Test the browser workload and software stack you actually intend to run.
Which one should you shortlist?
There is no supported “fastest” or “best” verdict from these hardware lists alone. Narrow the candidates using requirements you can verify, then test the finalist with your own browser and workload.

- AI & Linux Capabilities: Unlocks AI-powered vision and sound solutions; runs Linux Debian OS for coding in Python and supports the Arduino ecosystem with libraries and Sketches; quick start with Arduino App Lab.
- Advanced Features: Equipped with 4 GB LPDDR4 RAM, 32 GB eMMC built-in storage, ideal for single-board computer (SBC) mode, running multiple simultaneous high-level processes, more complex AI or ML models, extensive logs. Dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (2.4/5 GHz), Bluetooth 5.1, and high-speed headers for vision, audio, and display peripherals.
- Seamless Expansion & Connectivity: Features the classic UNO form factor for shields compatibility, an 8x13 LED matrix, and a Qwiic connector for easy expansion with Modulino nodes; power and connect via the USB-C connector.
- Intended Use & Development: The perfect platform for prototyping robotics or IoT projects, empowering innovators with a unified development experience to mix Arduino Sketches, Python scripts, and containerized AI models in a single interface.
- Start with a board whose Linux image and browser stack you can verify. A familiar processor or a long OS list does not replace checking browser, driver, runtime, and container support.
- Choose RAM for the workload you expect, with headroom. Include the OS and all browser processes in your planning; do not infer a session count from the RAM SKU.
- Match storage to the actual board. The Pi 5’s M.2 SSD arrangement uses an add-on; the Orange Pi 5 Plus lists an M.2 2280 slot and an eMMC socket; Radxa expansion details depend on variant; the BPI-M7 lists M.2 Key M. Check compatibility before buying a drive or adapter.
- Account for deployment constraints. Compare wired networking, USB, physical space, power, cooling, and maintenance needs for the place the board will run.
- Price the complete build using current listings. Board prices, stock, and configurations change, and no current comparable price set is established here.
Validate before committing to a workload
- Lock down the hardware identity. Record the exact board model, RAM configuration, revision, storage arrangement, and any add-on or adapter.
- Select a maintained Linux image. Check that its architecture and support status fit your deployment, rather than relying only on a product-page OS list.
- Verify the software chain. Confirm availability and compatibility for the browser, automation runtime, browser driver, and any container image at the versions you need.
- Run a representative task. Exercise the real sites, navigation, waits, screenshots or downloads, and expected page count. Increase concurrency gradually and observe memory, errors, and temperatures in your deployment.
- Repeat after updates. Changes to board images, kernels, browsers, drivers, or runtime versions can alter compatibility. Keep the tested combination documented so it can be reproduced.
These steps are a validation method, not a claim that any candidate has passed a particular benchmark. No controlled speed, thermal, or simultaneous-session results are available for these boards.
Or skip the browser setup
If your task is simply to obtain website screenshots, a screenshot API can avoid maintaining a browser on an SBC. ScreenshotNeo is a separate website screenshot API and MCP server, not a single-board computer. Cookie banners are accepted before capture and 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets can be removed; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides screenshot and page-info tools for AI agents.

The board has the right CPU family, but the browser will not install
CPU architecture is only one layer of compatibility. Check whether the chosen Linux image supports the board revision and whether the required browser package, driver, runtime, or container is available for that operating system and architecture. If one component is unavailable, choose a supported combination before building around it.

The manufacturer lists an OS, but the automation stack fails
An OS appearing on a product page does not establish that your browser automation framework works on it. Verify package availability and tested versions for the image you will actually install. If the specific combination is not documented by the relevant maintainers, test it directly before relying on it.
Storage does not fit the board or build
Connector names and expansion arrangements matter. Check whether the board needs an add-on, which M.2 form factor or key the documentation specifies, and whether your chosen storage device is supported. Do not assume one board’s adapter or drive configuration transfers to another.
Performance or stability is worse than expected
Core count and RAM capacity are not workload benchmarks. Browser version, page complexity, concurrency, storage, software image, and cooling all affect results. Reproduce the target workload, monitor resource use and temperature in the intended enclosure, and reduce parallel work or adjust the build if it becomes unstable.
The budget exceeds the board’s advertised price
Compare total build cost rather than a board-only figure: include suitable power, cooling, storage, any required adapter, enclosure, and shipping. The historical Raspberry Pi launch prices above are not current pricing, and comparable current prices for this shortlist are not established here.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a 64-bit Arm board guarantee that Playwright or Selenium will work?
No. Check the exact Linux image, browser, automation runtime, driver, and container architecture for the board revision. Processor architecture alone does not establish a working software combination.
Can these boards run multiple browser sessions?
The cited specifications do not establish a session count. RAM capacity is one planning factor; validate concurrency with the pages, browser versions, and automation tasks you expect to run.
Are these the ten best SBCs for browser automation?
No ten-board ranking is supported by the available product specifications. This article limits its shortlist to four documented board families and makes no comparative performance claim.
