Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →There is no single flight data API that fits every application: live aircraft positions, flight status and delays, schedules, and historical tracks are different datasets. The sources reviewed support seven named API products or networks, plus one OAG candidate whose current availability is unverified—not ten equally confirmed options. Treat this as a shortlist, then test providers against your actual airports, airlines, routes, fields, latency needs, and commercial rights.
Choose the data before choosing the API
Start with what your application must show or calculate. A position feed can tell you where an aircraft is when it is transmitting and detected; it does not automatically provide a dependable schedule or airline operational status. A schedule can describe a planned flight without confirming that the aircraft is airborne.
- Live positions: useful for maps and tracking views. These may be ADS-B-derived and depend on aircraft transmissions and receiver-network detection.
- Status and delays: useful for departure, arrival, cancellation, and delay workflows. Verify which fields and events the provider supplies rather than assuming they can be inferred from positions.
- Schedules and future flights: useful for planning and timetable products. Confirm schedule coverage and whether future dates are available.
- Historical tracks or events: useful for replay, analytics, and investigations. Check the actual lookback window and storage rights.
- Reference data: airports, airlines, routes, and fleet information can support search and normalization, but may be separate endpoints or products.
OpenSky explicitly says its API does not provide commercial schedules or delays that cannot be derived from ADS-B data; it is therefore not a direct substitute for an operational status or timetable API. OpenSky API documentation
Shortlist: providers and their documented fit
This is not an accuracy ranking. Product pages describe different offerings and billing units, and the reviewed material does not provide a neutral, comparable benchmark. Confirm product availability, endpoint details, and terms directly before adoption.

1. FlightAware AeroAPI
Consider AeroAPI for query-based flight status, tracking, alerts, and historical queries. FlightAware describes a REST API with more than 60 endpoints and history reaching back to 2011. Its pricing information distinguishes personal use from business tiers; higher tiers have monthly minimums, and personal-use terms restrict commercialization. Check the current cost of the specific endpoints and the license for your application rather than estimating from a headline tier. FlightAware AeroAPI
2. Cirium Sky APIs and Sky Stream
Cirium describes products spanning schedules, status, tracking, alerts, weather, fleet, NOTAMs, and emissions. Its delivery options matter architecturally: REST APIs are pull-based, while Sky Stream is push-based and requires AMQP. Developer Studio provides limited trial access; the reviewed pages direct buyers to discuss options rather than publish one price that applies to every use case. Cirium aviation APIs
3. Flightradar24 API
The API covers live and historical tracking, positions, flight summaries, airports, and airlines. Its documentation says historical data reaches back to May 2016. The API is separate from consumer Flightradar24 subscriptions and uses monthly credits with endpoint-specific consumption. Flightradar24’s FAQ says a flight appears in live endpoints once the aircraft transmits position data and its network detects it; the public API does not currently expose timetable schedules. 4. Aviationstack
Aviationstack offers REST/JSON access for live status, schedules, future flights, reference data, and a short historical window. Its pricing page lists 100 requests per month on a free personal, noncommercial tier. The company describes paid commercial tiers and a three-month sliding history window. Its FAQ reports status updates delayed by as little as 30–60 seconds; that timing is Aviationstack’s statement, not an independent latency measurement. Aviationstack pricing, Aviationstack FAQ
5. AirLabs
AirLabs is a REST API candidate for positions, schedules, airlines, routes, and airport information. Its documentation describes JSON, XML, or CSV responses and API-key access. The reviewed documentation does not establish a comparable current price, regional coverage, update timing, or commercial-use terms. Verify those against your target data and contract. 6. Aviation Edge
Aviation Edge’s developer documentation distinguishes static from dynamic data and lists real-time flight tracking, historical tracking, and airport arrival/departure schedules. Treat it as a candidate to validate, not a conclusion about service levels: confirm current pricing, retention, support commitments, and commercial-use rights. Aviation Edge developer documentation
7. OpenSky Network
OpenSky provides live ADS-B/Mode S state vectors, including aircraft position, velocity, and identity, for research and noncommercial use according to its documentation. Commercial users are asked to contact the network. Its data focus and use restrictions make it a possible fit for eligible research or noncommercial work, not a drop-in business schedule/status feed. Candidate, not a confirmed eighth current option: OAG
OAG documentation surfaced an integration guide for a Flight Status API describing schedules and status, but the reviewed guide is dated and current product availability was not verified. Contact OAG to establish whether an applicable product is offered now and obtain current technical, commercial, and licensing terms before treating it as an option. Dated OAG integration guide

Compare the options against your workload
Use the following checklist with a representative set of flights, not just a provider’s broad coverage description.
- List the required fields and events. Specify positions, departure and arrival status, delays, cancellations, gates or terminals if needed, codeshares, schedules, and history. Ask which endpoint returns each field and how missing values are represented.
- Build a coverage sample. Test the airports, routes, airline mix, regions, and general aviation flights that matter to your product. A vendor’s use of “global” does not demonstrate coverage for your specific sample.
- Measure freshness in context. Record when your application requests data and when the provider says each field was updated. Ask whether data is live, estimated, schedule-derived, or ADS-B-derived, and how latency is measured. Do not apply Aviationstack’s reported 30–60-second delay to other providers.
- Check history and retention. Confirm the lookback available from the endpoint and whether you may store, display, or redistribute historical results. A stated history range is not automatically permission to retain or republish the data.
- Choose delivery mechanics. Polling REST endpoints can be straightforward but request frequency influences volume and cost. If consumers need updates without repeated polling, investigate push delivery; Cirium describes Sky Stream with AMQP.
- Get written rights for the product you are building. Ask about internal business use, public display, redistribution, derived data, attribution, and retention. OpenSky explicitly asks commercial users to contact it; FlightAware differentiates personal from business use.
- Check operational support. Review status information, support arrangements, contractual uptime commitments, and fallback options. Marketing descriptions alone do not establish an SLA.
Model cost using actual calls and rights
Headline plan prices are not directly comparable because providers meter requests, result sets, returned entities, credits, minimums, or custom enterprise terms differently. Before selecting a tier, estimate the exact endpoints, expected result volume, polling interval, history window, empty responses, and growth pattern. Include rate limits, overages, monthly minimums, and volume discounts in the calculation. Also price the rights you need: a low-cost personal or research allowance may not permit a commercial public product.
Flightradar24 API plans use endpoint-specific monthly credits, while FlightAware describes usage fees and tier distinctions. Aviationstack’s listed free tier is capped at 100 requests per month and limited to personal, noncommercial use. These examples illustrate why a plan label alone does not determine total cost or suitability. Confirm current terms directly with each provider.

Implementation and testing without guessing at endpoints
There is no safe universal request example for this shortlist: authentication, endpoint paths, parameters, response schemas, and billing triggers differ by provider. Use the selected provider’s current API documentation to build a small integration rather than copying an invented shared endpoint. Keep credentials on your server, follow the provider’s rate limits, and log request time, response status, fields returned, and any billing or quota metadata the service exposes.
- Choose one representative route or airport and a small set of known flights.
- Implement the provider’s documented authentication and one endpoint for the exact data need.
- Validate identifiers and timestamps, including timezone handling, codeshares, missing fields, and flights that have not yet entered a live tracking feed.
- Measure update intervals and response behavior over the operating periods your application must support.
- Only then expand polling, history retrieval, or push delivery, and recalculate usage against the provider’s billing rules.
FlightAware describes query-based REST access; Cirium also offers push delivery through Sky Stream. The appropriate design depends on whether your product can tolerate polling intervals or requires streamed updates. AeroAPI · Cirium API options
ScreenshotNeo is for a separate job, not flight data
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a flight data API, so it cannot replace any provider above or supply aviation positions, status, or schedules. It may be relevant only if you separately need screenshots of a web-based flight dashboard. For that separate task, it removes cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed; and its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo free.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a live flight tracking API necessarily include schedules?
No. Flightradar24 says its public API does not currently expose timetable schedules, and OpenSky says schedules and delays that cannot be derived from ADS-B are outside its API data.
