To redirect visitors after a WordPress form is submitted, open your form builder’s confirmation or post-submission action settings and choose either a published thank-you page or a destination URL. The exact menu depends on the plugin: WPForms uses Settings → Confirmations, Elementor uses Action After Submit, and Gravity Forms uses Confirmations. Contact Form 7 requires a redirect extension for this workflow.
Choose the redirect behavior first
Decide where a successful submission should go before changing settings:
- One fixed destination: every submission opens the same thank-you page or URL.
- A destination based on answers: different responses send visitors to different pages. Availability depends on the plugin and license tier.
- An external destination: the form sends visitors to another domain, such as a booking system or payment page.
A redirect should not silently replace success feedback. Make the destination page clearly state that the form was received and explain what happens next.
WPForms: redirect from Settings → Confirmations
- Open the form in the WPForms builder.
- Go to Settings → Confirmations.
- Choose Show Page for a page on the same WordPress site, or choose Go to URL (Redirect) for any URL, including an external site.
- Select the page or enter the full destination URL.
- Save the form and test a real submission.
For Show Page, create and publish the destination page before selecting it. WPForms also supports URL parameters for confirmation destinations when you need to pass values onward.

WPForms Lite and conditional redirects
WPForms Lite can send submissions to one page or URL. WPForms’ guide describes conditional redirects based on a submitted answer as a WPForms Pro feature, so do not assume that every redirect rule is available on the free tier.
WPForms developer redirect
Developers can use the wpforms_process_redirect_url filter to load a redirect URL during submission processing. The documented example applies when the confirmation type is Go to URL (Redirect). Add and test custom code carefully, because a malformed URL or condition can prevent the expected confirmation.
Elementor: add Redirect under Action After Submit
- Edit the page containing the Elementor Form widget.
- Select the form widget and open Action After Submit.
- Add Redirect to the actions list.
- Expand the new Redirect action.
- Enter the destination in Redirect To.
- Update the page and submit the form as a visitor.
Elementor’s instructions say to leave the default Collect Submissions and Email actions in place. Adding Redirect controls where the visitor goes; it does not by itself replace submission storage or email notifications.

Gravity Forms: configure a confirmation
- Edit the form.
- Open Confirmations in the form settings.
- Create or edit a confirmation and choose the destination type.
- Use a text confirmation for an on-page message, a page confirmation for a WordPress page, or a redirect confirmation for a full URL.
- Save the confirmation and test the form.
Gravity Forms can pass submitted data through query-string merge tags when using a page or redirect confirmation. Only pass data the receiving page is designed to accept, and avoid putting sensitive information into a URL.
Avoid reserved query-parameter names
Check every parameter name before publishing. Gravity Forms warns that reserved WordPress terms can cause problems; its documentation specifically notes that using name can produce a 404 when the destination is a WordPress URL. Use a more specific name such as customer_name if the receiving system supports it.
Contact Form 7: install a redirect extension
Contact Form 7 does not provide the same native redirect workflow described above. The WordPress.org listing for Redirection for Contact Form 7 describes an extension that adds submission actions, including redirecting to a URL and appending form fields as query parameters.

- Find the extension in the WordPress plugin directory or your WordPress admin and review its current compatibility information.
- Install and activate it alongside Contact Form 7.
- Open the relevant Contact Form 7 form and configure its redirect action.
- Enter the destination URL and, if needed, choose which fields become query parameters.
- Submit the form in a logged-out browser and verify both the redirect and the original notification behavior.
The listing states that Contact Form 7 version 4.8 or later is required; confirm that requirement and the extension’s tested WordPress version before installation. Its PRO tier lists conditional actions and additional integrations, but those features are not necessary for one fixed redirect.

There is no universal WordPress redirect menu. Start by identifying the plugin that actually renders the form, then follow that plugin’s workflow.

Use query strings safely
A query string is the portion after the question mark in a URL, such as ?order_id=123. Form tools can append submitted values or fixed parameters, but the destination must be built to read them. A parameter in the URL does nothing unless the receiving page or application uses it.

- Use descriptive, non-reserved parameter names.
- Do not place passwords, payment details, or other sensitive personal data in the URL.
- Encode values correctly, especially names containing spaces or symbols.
- Test missing, empty, and unexpected values on the destination page.
- Check browser history, analytics, server logs, and shared links for accidental exposure of data.
Testing checklist
- Submit the form with valid data while logged out or in a private browser window.
- Confirm that the submission is stored and that expected notification emails still arrive.
- Verify the exact destination on desktop and mobile.
- Check that the destination page says the submission succeeded and gives the next step.
- Test validation failures; an invalid submission should remain on the form and show its errors.
- If parameters are used, test special characters, blank fields, and a direct visit without parameters.
- Test caching, security, cookie-consent, and redirect plugins if they are active on the site.
Common problems and fixes
The redirect option is missing
You may be editing a different form plugin than expected, or the feature may require an add-on or paid tier. Identify the form widget or shortcode that outputs the form and open that product’s own settings.
The form redirects but no submission is recorded
Keep Elementor’s Collect Submissions action and Email action enabled when using its Redirect action. For other builders, verify that the storage and notification settings were not removed while changing the confirmation.
The destination produces a 404
Confirm that an internal page exists and is published, check the URL for spelling and protocol errors, and rename problematic query parameters. Gravity Forms specifically warns that reserved terms such as name can trigger a 404 on WordPress destinations.

The destination opens but does not show submitted values
Confirm that the parameter names match exactly and that the receiving page is programmed to read them. Passing a field in the URL does not automatically display it.
Conditional routing sends everyone to the same place
Check whether conditional redirects are available on your current plan and whether the rule compares the correct field value. WPForms documents conditional redirects as a Pro capability, while its Lite workflow supports one page or URL.
