To install the Facebook remarketing pixel—now called the Meta Pixel—on WordPress, use the official Facebook-authored Meta pixel for WordPress plugin: install it from the dashboard, then finish the connection in its settings through the Facebook Business Extension. Installing the plugin alone does not confirm that the events you need are arriving.
Install the official Meta Pixel plugin
- In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins → Add New.
- Search for Facebook for WordPress. The WordPress.org listing currently displays the name Meta pixel for WordPress. Before installing, confirm that the author is Facebook. See the WordPress.org plugin listing.
- Install and activate the plugin.
- Open the plugin settings and select Get Started.
- Complete the Facebook Business Extension setup and grant the requested permission to share the access token with your site. The connection flow is part of setup; activation alone does not complete it.
Confirm the events your site needs
The plugin listing describes support for the Meta Pixel and Conversions API, and names events including Lead, ViewContent, AddToCart, InitiateCheckout, and Purchase. These are stated capabilities, not a guarantee that every event is configured correctly for your site or store. After connecting, check that the expected Pixel and events are being received. Use Meta’s current documentation for the testing procedure; the exact current test steps are not established here.
Alternative for plugin-enabled WordPress.com sites
If your site is on WordPress.com and supports plugins, WordPress.com documents a code-insertion route: add the Meta-provided pixel code using a plugin that inserts code in the site header and footer. Follow the WordPress.com tracking-pixel guide for its site-specific setup. This guidance is not a universal method for every WordPress.com plan or self-hosted WordPress site.
WordPress.com notes that its modified verification steps do not support some Meta features, including the Event Setup Tool, Auto Events, and Auto Advanced Matching. Consider this limitation when choosing code insertion instead of the official integration.

What to verify before relying on tracking
- Confirm you connected the intended Pixel and site during setup.
- Check that the specific actions important to your site—such as leads or purchases—are received, rather than assuming every listed event is mapped automatically.
- Recheck plugin labels and compatibility against the current WordPress.org listing, since plugin details can change.
- Review the privacy and consent requirements that apply to your location and site. They vary by jurisdiction and context; installing a tracking tool does not establish legal compliance.
