“Shoppable Instagram images” can mean two different things: product tags that shoppers tap inside Instagram, or an Instagram feed on your WordPress site with each post linked to a WooCommerce product. A normal Instagram embed only displays a public post; it does not create a catalog tag or product link.
Choose the workflow that matches where you want customers to shop.

How to tag WooCommerce products on Instagram
This route places selectable product tags on Instagram content. Approval is controlled by Meta, so a plugin cannot guarantee eligibility or acceptance. Requirements, supported countries and available commerce features can change; check the current requirements shown in your Meta business account before you begin.
1. Check commerce eligibility
- Confirm that your products and business location meet Meta’s current commerce requirements.
- Use an Instagram professional account connected to the appropriate Meta business assets.
- Make sure your website domain and business information can be verified if Meta requests verification.
2. Create or connect the catalog
Set up a Meta business portfolio (formerly managed through Business Suite or Business Manager) and connect the Instagram account. Import or synchronize your WooCommerce products with a catalog using an integration that supports the Instagram workflow you intend to use.

Do not assume that the current Meta for WooCommerce integration enables every Instagram Shopping or checkout feature. WooCommerce documents limitations for Instagram Shopping through that integration and separately notes that Facebook and Instagram checkout are unsupported for its catalog. Verify the capabilities displayed in your account and the current WooCommerce documentation before relying on them.
3. Submit the account and catalog for review
- Open the commerce or shopping setup in your Meta business account.
- Select the connected Instagram account and product catalog.
- Complete any domain, business or policy checks.
- Submit the setup for review and wait for the result. WooCommerce’s extension guidance notes that review can take days and that availability varies by region.
4. Add tags after approval
When Instagram enables product tagging, create or edit a post and choose the option to tag products. Select items from the approved catalog, position the tags and publish. A WooCommerce guide describes limits of five products for a single-image post and 20 for a multi-image post, but those limits may have changed; confirm the number shown in the current Instagram app before publishing.
How to add a shoppable Instagram feed to WooCommerce pages
A shoppable-feed plugin keeps the shopping experience on your WordPress site. The plugin displays Instagram posts and associates selected posts with WooCommerce products or destination URLs. Features below are documented by the relevant plugin vendors, so confirm compatibility and settings for the version you install.

1. Install a feed plugin with product associations
Choose a plugin that supports Instagram content, post moderation, product linking and a block or shortcode. The WooCommerce Instagram Sync marketplace listing describes approved-post moderation, per-product post associations, grid, masonry and carousel layouts, and shortcode placement. Spotlight’s vendor guide describes assigning posts to WooCommerce products or URLs and embedding the resulting feed with a block or shortcode.
2. Connect Instagram and select a source
- Install and activate the plugin from WordPress.
- Open its Instagram connection settings and authorize the account or source it supports.
- Choose an account feed, hashtag source or another available source.
Hashtag feeds need special care: hashtag results can include public posts from accounts other than yours. Use distinctive tags, enable moderation where available and approve content before it appears on product pages.
3. Associate posts with products
- Open the plugin’s post review or feed-management screen.
- Approve the image you want to display.
- Assign it to the matching WooCommerce product or enter the intended product URL.
- Repeat for each image and product relationship.
4. Place the feed on your site
Add the plugin’s block to a product page, shop page or landing page, or paste its shortcode into the location specified by the plugin. Select the layout and number of posts, then save.

5. Test the customer path
- Preview the feed on desktop and mobile widths.
- Open every image and verify that it reaches the correct product page.
- Check that removed or rejected posts no longer appear.
- Confirm that captions, image crops and loading behavior fit the page design.
- Review permission and usage rights for content created by customers or other accounts before displaying it commercially.
How to display a regular Instagram post in WordPress
Use this option when you only need an embed, not a product-linked gallery.
- Copy the URL of a public Instagram post.
- Edit a WordPress post or page and add the Instagram block.
- Paste the post URL into the block and publish or update the page.
WordPress supports embedding public posts. If the embed does not resolve, convert the block to a normal link. Meta’s official Meta Embeds plugin also supports URL-based rich Instagram embeds; it makes an oEmbed request and loads Meta embed scripts in the visitor’s browser. Neither approach adds WooCommerce product associations or Instagram catalog tags.

Instagram tagging is unavailable
Check account type, business assets, catalog status, domain verification, policy compliance and regional availability in Meta’s commerce settings. Approval is a Meta decision, not something a WordPress extension can bypass.

Products do not appear when tagging
Confirm that the catalog is connected to the same Instagram account, products are approved and required information such as price, availability and destination URL is complete. Recheck synchronization errors before submitting the setup again.
The feed shows unrelated hashtag posts
That is expected when the selected hashtag is used publicly. Replace broad tags with a distinctive campaign tag and moderate posts before approval.
An embed is blank or fails to load
Verify that the post is public and that its URL is correct. Test with the native WordPress Instagram block or Meta Embeds plugin, and remember that these embeds depend on Meta’s scripts and services loading in the visitor’s browser.

Product links lead to the wrong item
Open the plugin’s association screen, remove the incorrect relationship and assign the post to the correct WooCommerce product or URL. Retest from an incognito browser window.
Which method should you use?
- Choose Instagram product tagging when the goal is discovery and checkout from Instagram, and your business can meet Meta’s current catalog and commerce requirements.
- Choose a shoppable WordPress feed when you want control over product-page placement, moderation and the destination URL on your own storefront.
- Choose a standard embed when showing the original post is enough and no product relationship is needed.
Plan for ongoing maintenance: Meta’s commerce products, regional rules, APIs and plugin integrations change. Recheck the current account settings and plugin documentation whenever you change catalogs, Instagram permissions or WordPress extensions.
