In Opera GX, open the page, press Ctrl+Shift+5 on Windows or Command+Shift+2 on macOS, drag around the area you need, and select Capture. Edit the result, then choose Copy and Close or Save Image. You can also start Snapshot from the camera icon on the browser toolbar.
Open Snapshot in Opera GX
Opera GX includes Snapshot, so you do not need an extension or special hardware. The official Opera GX Snapshot page documents these entry points:
- Windows: press Ctrl+Shift+5.
- macOS: press Command+Shift+2.
- Any supported desktop platform: click the Snapshot camera icon on the Opera GX toolbar.
On Linux, the reviewed Opera documentation does not specify a separate default keyboard shortcut. Use the toolbar icon or check Opera GX’s shortcut settings instead of assuming the Windows binding.
Capture a selected part of the page
- Navigate to the page you want to capture and wait until the content you need is visible.
- Launch Snapshot with the platform shortcut or toolbar camera icon.
- Drag the selection frame around the page area. You can select text, an image, a panel, or any other visible region.
- Click Capture. Opera GX opens the result in its editing view.
- Make any changes you need, then choose Copy and Close to place the image on the clipboard or Save Image to save a PNG file.
The workflow and output choices are described in Opera Help’s Features documentation. A saved PNG uses the location you select in the save dialog, so choose a folder you can find later rather than relying on a temporary download location.

Edit the screenshot before you save it
Snapshot’s editor is useful when the raw browser view needs explanation or redaction. Opera Help lists these tools:
- Zoom: enlarge part of the capture while working on it.
- Arrow: point to a control, value, or error message.
- Blur: obscure information that should not be shared.
- Highlight: draw attention to a region.
- Pencil: add freehand marks.
- Selfie camera: add a camera image when that is useful for the composition.
- Emoji: add a visual marker.
- Text: label the capture with an explanation or step number.
Use the editor before copying or saving. If you need an untouched version as well as an annotated one, save the original first, then make edits and save a second copy.
Viewport screenshot versus the entire webpage
“Full screen” can mean two different things in Opera GX. The distinction matters because Snapshot’s image capture and Opera’s full-page PDF workflow produce different results.

What Capture Full Screen actually captures
Opera Help defines Capture Full Screen as the entire page currently visible on your screen, also called the viewport. It does not establish that Snapshot creates a single image containing every screenful of a long, scrolling page. Browser chrome and content outside the current viewport should not be treated as part of a top-to-bottom webpage capture.
How to capture a page from top to bottom
When the deliverable must include the complete scrolling document, choose Save page as PDF. Opera’s help page explicitly describes this as saving the full page, from top to bottom, as a PDF. If the recipient specifically requires an image file, the reviewed Opera documentation does not provide a standard Snapshot workflow for producing one tall scrolling image. You would need to clarify whether a PDF is acceptable or use a separate tool designed for full-page image capture.

Opera’s general Snapshot overview at opera.com/features/snapshot also presents Snapshot as a built-in capture, editing, copying, and sharing feature; it should not be read as a promise of a scrolling-image output.
Copying, saving, and sharing the result
Copy to another application
Select Copy and Close after editing. The PNG image is placed on the clipboard so you can paste it into an email, document, issue tracker, chat message, or image editor. If pasting does nothing, return to Snapshot and use Copy and Close rather than closing the editor with the window control.

Select Save Image, choose a folder, and confirm the save. PNG is the documented image output. Use a descriptive filename when the screenshot will be referenced later, such as checkout-error-2026-09-30.png.
Share an annotated explanation
For bug reports and support requests, crop to the relevant area, blur private values, add an arrow or highlight, and place a short text label near the problem. This keeps the recipient from having to infer what matters in an otherwise busy browser view.
Troubleshooting Snapshot
The keyboard shortcut does nothing
- Confirm the platform binding: Ctrl+Shift+5 for Windows or Command+Shift+2 for macOS.
- Try the Snapshot camera icon on the toolbar. This bypasses shortcut conflicts with another application or an altered browser binding.
- On Linux, use the toolbar entry or inspect Opera GX’s shortcut settings because the official material reviewed here does not give a Linux-specific default.
The Snapshot icon is not visible
Use the documented keyboard shortcut first. If the toolbar has been customized, restore or inspect the toolbar controls in Opera GX settings. The shortcut and toolbar are the two official entry points described for GX.

The selection is the wrong size
Start Snapshot again and drag the frame from a corner to the opposite corner. Capture only what should be shared; browser zoom can change how much content is visible, but it does not turn a viewport capture into a full-page scrolling image.

Private information is visible
Before sharing, use Snapshot’s blur tool over names, addresses, account identifiers, tokens, or other sensitive text. If the information is outside the selected region, capture again with a tighter selection rather than assuming a crop made later will remove every copy.
The copied image is not available
Use Copy and Close explicitly, then paste into a simple image-capable application to verify the clipboard. If clipboard transfer remains unreliable, choose Save Image and attach the PNG from the folder you selected.
You need the whole page as an image
Snapshot’s documented full-screen option is the visible viewport. For a complete top-to-bottom document, use Save page as PDF. The official help does not substantiate a standard one-click, full-length scrolling PNG from Snapshot.
When an automated screenshot is more practical
Snapshot is ideal for a one-off capture while you are looking at a page. A browser screenshot API is more suitable when a script, build job, monitoring process, or AI agent must capture URLs repeatedly without opening Opera GX manually.
