Press Ctrl+Shift+S, choose Capture full page or Capture area, then mark up, copy, or save the result. You do not need an extension for this basic workflow.
What the Edge Screenshot tool can capture
Edge Screenshot captures either an entire webpage, including content below the visible screen, or a region that you select. Microsoft describes the full-page function as capturing “an entire webpage in a single screenshot—even content that extends beyond your screen.” The feature is built into the browser and can be opened from the shortcut, a page’s right-click menu, or the Settings and more menu. The result can be annotated with pen or touch controls, copied to the clipboard, or saved. Moving content such as videos, GIFs, and carousels can remain active while you capture, so you can choose a moment; behavior can differ by site and release. Microsoft notes that availability and behavior vary by device, market, and Edge version.
How to take a screenshot in Edge
- Open the webpage in Microsoft Edge and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Open Screenshot by pressing Ctrl+Shift+S. Alternatively, right-click the page and choose Screenshot, or open Settings and more (…) and select Screenshot. Microsoft’s January 2, 2024 guide uses the older name Web Capture; current pages generally say Screenshot. The workflow is the same where the feature is available.
- Choose Capture full page for the complete page, or Capture area and drag over the required region.
- Review the capture. Use pen or touch markup if you need to circle, underline, or write on it.
- Choose the command to copy the image to your clipboard or save it. The exact save dialog and available formats can vary with your operating system and Edge release.

Choosing full-page versus area capture
Use Capture full page when completeness matters
Full-page capture is appropriate for a page archive, a design review, a bug report that spans several sections, or a receipt whose details continue below the fold. Scroll position does not limit the result; Edge attempts to include the page beyond the visible viewport.
Before capturing, allow lazy-loaded images and expandable sections to load. If a page only inserts content after scrolling, open or scroll through the relevant sections first. A script-driven page may still produce a result that differs from what you see interactively.
Use Capture area when you need a focused image
Area capture is better for a single table, product card, error message, or diagram. It avoids sharing unrelated page content and creates a smaller image for documentation or chat. Draw the selection carefully around the target; browser chrome outside the webpage is not part of the selected page region.

Use markup after capture, not instead of capture
Pen and touch annotation are editing tools applied to the captured image. They are useful for review comments and support tickets, but they do not create a separate capture mode. A touchscreen stylus may make annotation easier on a compatible device, but no additional hardware is required for Screenshot itself and Microsoft does not establish compatibility for every stylus or computer.

Menu paths and shortcut checks
- Keyboard: Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Context menu: right-click inside the webpage, then choose Screenshot.
- Browser menu: open Settings and more (…) and choose Screenshot.
If one path is unavailable, try the other two. On managed computers, an administrator can control access. Microsoft’s WebCaptureEnabled policy documents Web Capture support on Windows and macOS beginning with Edge 87, but a policy can disable access even on a supported version.
When Screenshot is missing or does not work
The command is absent from every menu
- Update Edge, then restart it and try Ctrl+Shift+S again.
- Check whether your device, market, or current release supports the feature; Microsoft says availability can vary.
- On a work or school device, ask the administrator whether WebCaptureEnabled has been disabled.
The shortcut is blocked
Keyboard shortcuts can be restricted by organizational policy or another application. Use the context or browser menu instead. Microsoft’s DisableScreenshots policy can prevent screenshots through keyboard shortcuts or extension APIs. Microsoft also notes that this policy does not guarantee that every in-browser Web Capture path or every method outside the browser is impossible.

The full-page image is incomplete
- Wait for fonts, images, and asynchronous content to finish loading.
- Scroll through the page once so lazy-loaded sections are requested, then run Capture full page again.
- Close sticky banners or expand the section you need before capturing.
- For animated or interactive content, pause it at the desired moment when the site allows it; Microsoft does not promise identical behavior on every page.
The result is hard to read or save
Use area capture for a smaller, sharper subject, or increase the browser window size before capturing. Copying to the clipboard can be useful when the save dialog is restricted. Export details and maximum dimensions are not specified consistently across all Edge platforms, so verify the result on your particular release.
Privacy, evidence, and repeatability
A screenshot is a visual copy of what the page exposed to your browser. Check for account names, email addresses, order numbers, private messages, or location information before sharing it. For bug reports, record the page URL, Edge version, operating system, and the capture mode. Repeating the same capture may still produce different pixels when ads, timestamps, personalization, animations, or network responses change.

FAQ
Is Edge Screenshot the same as Web Capture?
They are the same built-in capture workflow under changing labels. Microsoft’s January 2, 2024 guide says Web Capture, while current feature and policy pages use Screenshot.
Can an administrator prevent Edge screenshots?
Yes. Microsoft documents policies that can disable Web Capture or block keyboard-shortcut and extension-API screenshots. The DisableScreenshots documentation does not claim to block every possible in-browser or external capture method.
Does full-page capture guarantee every dynamic element?
No. Results depend on the site’s scripts, lazy loading, animation, and your Edge version. Load the page fully and check the saved image before relying on it as evidence.
