Set the pyppeteer logger to an appropriate threshold before creating or attaching to a browser. For near-silent output, use logging.CRITICAL; use ERROR or WARNING when you still need operational diagnostics. You can also pass the same level as logLevel to launch() or connect(). Chromium’s own stdout and stderr are separate and are controlled by dumpio.
The quickest working fix
Configure Pyppeteer’s named logger before the first browser call:

asyncio.run(main())This changes only records emitted through the pyppeteer logger. Your application’s logger and unrelated libraries can continue using their existing levels. Put the statement before launch() or connect(); setting it after startup can leave early messages visible.
Choose how much output to retain
A logging level is a threshold: a record at that level or a more severe level is retained, while lower-severity records are filtered. The right setting depends on whether you are troubleshooting or running unattended jobs.

Pyppeteer also accepts an integer or string logLevel option on both browser creation and browser attachment. Python constants such as logging.ERROR make the intended threshold unambiguous.
Use the per-call logLevel option
Suppress output for a new browser

asyncio.run(main())The launcher applies this option to the pyppeteer logger for that call. It is convenient when a small script should configure Pyppeteer without changing a larger logging setup.

asyncio.run(main())Use the same option with connect(). Replace the endpoint with the WebSocket endpoint exposed by the browser you started separately.
Package-only configuration versus global logging
Prefer the named logger
logging.getLogger('pyppeteer').setLevel(...) scopes the change to Pyppeteer. This is usually the best choice in a service that also logs requests, jobs, database activity, or other automation libraries. A module-level setting is applied once and covers later launch() and connect() calls in that Python process.

logging.disable(...) and changing the root logger affect unrelated packages and your own records. They can hide the evidence you need to diagnose a failed task. If a framework installs its logging configuration after your setup code, apply the Pyppeteer logger level after that configuration step, or use the per-call logLevel argument.

Why NOTSET does not mean “off”
logging.NOTSET tells a logger to inherit its effective level from an ancestor. Depending on the root logger and handlers, messages may still appear. It is useful when you intentionally want inherited policy, but it is not a reliable silence setting. Choose a concrete threshold such as CRITICAL when suppression is the goal.
A complete configuration pattern for applications
Configure your application’s handlers normally, then set only Pyppeteer’s threshold. The example keeps application errors visible while reducing browser-library noise:

asyncio.run(main())There are two equivalent controls in this example. The named-logger assignment establishes the process policy; the logLevel argument makes the browser call self-documenting. In a codebase with one central logging policy, keeping just the named-logger assignment avoids unnecessary duplication.

dumpio=True is a different output path
The dumpio launch option pipes the Chromium process’s stdout and stderr into the parent process. Those bytes are not Pyppeteer log records, so changing the pyppeteer logger cannot remove them. If you do not need browser-process streams, omit dumpio=True or set dumpio=False:

Another logger may be producing the line
Look at the prefix or formatter in the output. A record whose logger name is not pyppeteer, or text written directly to stdout and stderr, is outside this setting. Configure that specific logger or stream only after identifying its source rather than lowering the root level for the whole process.
Configuration may run too late
Place logger setup before importing code that launches a browser, and certainly before the first launch() or connect(). If a framework’s startup hook calls logging.config.dictConfig() later, put the Pyppeteer override in a hook that runs after the framework’s configuration.
Debug first, then reduce the level
When a page fails to load or Chromium exits unexpectedly, temporarily use logging.DEBUG on the relevant call:
browser = await launch(logLevel=logging.DEBUG, dumpio=True)Capture the diagnostic run, identify the failure, and return to WARNING, ERROR, or CRITICAL for routine operation. Suppressing diagnostics permanently can make intermittent browser failures much harder to investigate.
Troubleshooting checklist
“I still see Pyppeteer debug messages.”
- Confirm the logger name is exactly
pyppeteer, in lowercase. - Set the level before the browser is created or attached.
- Check that a later application logging configuration has not reset the level.
- For a one-off script, pass
logLevel=logging.CRITICALdirectly tolaunch()orconnect().
“Chromium still prints lines after I set CRITICAL.”
Inspect the launch arguments for dumpio=True. Disable that option if process stdout and stderr are not required. The logger threshold affects Pyppeteer records, not those streams.

“My application logs disappeared too.”
Undo any use of logging.disable() or a root-logger change and restore your application handler level. Then set only logging.getLogger('pyppeteer').setLevel(...). This keeps the scope package-specific.

“I need errors but not warnings.”
Use logging.ERROR. If warnings are useful for detecting degraded navigation or browser behavior, choose logging.WARNING instead. CRITICAL is too restrictive when ordinary errors must remain visible.
“I need to silence an attached browser.”
Pass logLevel to connect(), not only to the process that originally started Chromium. The attaching Python process has its own Pyppeteer logger configuration.
Verify the effective setting
Python can show the level that the logger is actually using:

print(logger.getEffectiveLevel())If the effective level is lower than expected, inspect parent logger configuration and any later framework setup. A logger level does not remove handlers; it filters records before handlers process them.

Maintenance context for new projects
The current Pyppeteer repository describes the package as an unofficial Python port of Puppeteer, says it is unmaintained, and points new projects toward Playwright for Python. The logger and logLevel techniques above remain useful for existing Pyppeteer applications, but a new automation project should evaluate the maintenance status and migration cost before committing to this package.

Does changing the Pyppeteer logger hide Python exceptions?
No. Logging filters log records; it does not catch exceptions or change whether an exception is raised. Handle browser and navigation exceptions separately in your application.

The named logger is process-wide, so changing its level affects subsequent Pyppeteer records for that process. Use separate processes when genuinely independent logging policies are required.
Which level should I use in a scheduled production job?
Start with WARNING if you need early signs of degraded behavior. Move to ERROR when warnings are too noisy, and use CRITICAL only when the job’s monitoring system supplies other failure visibility.
