Edge documents capturing and saving a screenshot, but it does not guarantee that every version offers JPG as a save format. Check the file type offered; if JPG is unavailable, export the captured image as JPEG/JPG in an image editor. The result is a picture of the rendered page, not an editable copy of its HTML source.
What “save an HTML document as JPG” means
A webpage is usually delivered to Edge as HTML and related resources, then rendered as pixels on screen. A JPG is a raster image of that rendered appearance. Saving a page as JPG therefore means capturing how it looks—not converting its underlying HTML, links, text, or layout into an editable JPG document.
For a long webpage, use Edge’s built-in Screenshot feature and choose a full-page capture. For only the portion currently visible, select an area. Microsoft describes Screenshot as the renamed Web Capture feature and says it can capture web and PDF content. Its availability and behavior can vary by device, market, and browser version.
Save a webpage image from Edge
- Open the page. Navigate to the webpage in Microsoft Edge and wait for the content you want to capture to appear. For content that loads as you scroll, check that the relevant sections have loaded before capturing.
- Open Screenshot. Press Ctrl+Shift+S, right-click the page and choose Screenshot, or open it from Settings and more. Menu labels and availability can differ between versions.
- Choose the capture. Select Capture full page for the whole webpage, including content below the fold, or select the area you need. Edge’s feature description also covers long or moving web content and markup before copying or saving.
- Save or copy. In the Screenshot overlay, choose Save to save the capture or Copy to put it on the clipboard. Check the file extension and the save dialog’s format choice. Microsoft documents these actions but does not promise JPG as the default or universally available format.
- Convert only if needed. If the capture is not offered as JPG, open the saved image in an image editor and use its export or Save as format list to choose JPEG/JPG, if available. Do not simply rename a PNG file with a .jpg extension: changing the name does not convert the image data.
Choose the right Edge capture option

When to use Snipping Tool, Print, or an add-on
Use Snipping Tool for what is on screen
On Windows, Snipping Tool can capture a rectangle, window, full screen, or freeform area. It is useful when you need a visible portion of a page rather than the whole scrollable document. Microsoft documents opening a Snipping Tool capture in Paint for further editing, but the available documentation does not establish one universal, current sequence of Paint menus for exporting JPG. Look for JPEG/JPG in the editor’s own format list.

Use Print for a printable document, not an image file
Edge’s Print flow opens with Ctrl+P on Windows and provides print-preview controls, including background graphics. It is appropriate when the desired result is a printed or saved document with print layout. Microsoft’s print guidance does not describe direct JPG export. A print preview can also reflow a page, paginate it, or omit elements differently from a screenshot, so it is not interchangeable with capturing the rendered page.
Treat browser extensions as optional
Edge Add-ons listings for tools such as PageSaver and FireShot advertise additional capture or image-export options. Those descriptions do not establish that an extension is necessary or better, or that its current version will produce the format you want. Before installation, inspect its permissions and listing, then confirm the output format yourself. The built-in Edge workflow is the first route to try.

Make the screenshot look the way you expect
- Full page versus selected area: Full-page capture is the better fit for a long article or page archive. A selection is more useful when you need a particular chart, section, or visible portion without the rest of the page.
- Wait for visible content: Some pages populate content after the initial load. Let the relevant text and images appear before capture; otherwise the image can reflect an incomplete page state.
- Moving content: Edge’s Screenshot description includes long or moving web content. A capture still represents a particular moment. If an animation or changing element matters, wait for a suitable frame before saving.
- Check the saved format: The filename extension and the format selected by the save dialog or image editor matter. A file called .jpg is not necessarily JPEG data if it was only renamed.
- Keep the HTML if you need the document: A screenshot is a flattened image. It does not preserve selectable page structure, working hyperlinks, or the source HTML. Use a suitable document-saving method instead if those are what you need.

The same one-request workflow can be called from Python or Node.js. These examples use the documented endpoint and parameters; replace the key and target URL. As with the cURL example, verify the response and resulting file format for your use case rather than assuming a file extension converts the response.

Screenshot does not appear in the menu
Try the Ctrl+Shift+S shortcut and check Settings and more. The feature may be unavailable for the current device or browser version, or an administrator may have disabled it. Microsoft documents an enterprise policy named WebCaptureEnabled; when disabled, access to the feature is prevented. If this is a managed work device, ask the administrator whether the policy is in force.
The saved image is not JPG
Edge’s documentation supports saving a screenshot but does not specify a universal JPG format. Check what format the save dialog actually offers. If it saves another format, open the image in an editor and export it as JPEG/JPG when that option is available. Renaming the extension is not conversion.

The capture is missing part of the page
Use Capture full page rather than selecting only the visible region. Wait for delayed content to load, then capture again. For content that appears only after scrolling, bring the relevant content into view and confirm it has loaded before starting. If the full-page option is unavailable in your Edge version, use a visible-area capture or another workflow that explicitly supports scrolling capture.

That is expected when comparing two different outputs. Screenshot captures the rendered screen appearance; Print prepares a document using print layout and preview settings. Use Screenshot for a visual image and Print for a printable document.

Availability and version notes
Microsoft says Screenshot availability and functionality may vary by device type, market, and browser version. Its policy documentation lists Windows and macOS support from Edge version 87, and lists Android and iOS as unsupported for that policy entry. Those platform notes are not a guarantee that every current device or installation exposes the same controls. Check the current Edge menu on your device; on managed systems, administrator policy can also affect availability.
Microsoft’s official feature page describes Screenshot as: “Turn anything on the web into a shareable image with Screenshot in Microsoft Edge.” That description supports using the feature to capture rendered web content, but it does not establish that every Edge version saves directly as JPG.
