Use Firefox’s built-in screenshot tool. Open the page, right-click an empty area, choose Take Screenshot, then select Save full page. Firefox saves a PNG of the complete document. For a larger raster, open the Web Console and run :screenshot --fullpage --dpr 2. A higher device-pixel ratio (DPR) increases capture dimensions, but it cannot add detail that the page’s original images do not contain.
Choose the capture you actually need
“High resolution” can mean a large pixel canvas, readable text, or sharp original assets. Decide the scope before capturing:
- Full page: the entire scrollable document, including content below the fold.
- Visible area: only the current browser viewport.
- Region: a rectangle you draw around part of the page.
- Element: one automatically highlighted element or one DOM node inspected in Developer Tools.
Use full-page mode for archiving or sharing a complete article. Use visible mode for a dashboard state or a short message. Region and element captures avoid unnecessary whitespace and produce smaller files.
Save a full webpage as an image in Firefox
- Open the webpage in Firefox and wait until the content you need has loaded.
- Right-click an empty part of the page. Alternatively, press
Ctrl+Shift+Son Windows or Linux, orCommand+Shift+Son macOS. - Choose Take Screenshot.
- Select Save full page. Firefox captures the complete document rather than just the viewport.
- Download the resulting PNG and check its pixel dimensions in your image viewer or file properties.
The same panel offers Save visible, a selectable region, and an automatically detected page element. Choose the smallest scope that answers your purpose; a very tall full-page image can be difficult to open, share, or print.

Capture one inspected element
For a precise card, table, or component, open Firefox Developer Tools, inspect the node, and use Screenshot Node. This avoids manually cropping surrounding content and preserves the element’s rendered appearance.
Increase screenshot resolution with Firefox’s Web Console
Firefox’s screenshot helper accepts a device-pixel-ratio argument. Open Developer Tools, switch to the Web Console, and run:
:screenshot --fullpage --dpr 2The command requests a full-page capture at DPR 2. Mozilla documents values above 1 as “zoomed-in” images and values below 1 as “zoomed-out” images. A DPR of 2 generally creates roughly twice the pixels in each dimension compared with DPR 1, so the total pixel count and file size can increase substantially. The actual dimensions depend on the page and browser limits; inspect the saved file rather than assuming a fixed output size.
Useful screenshot command options
The helper also supports a delay, a filename, a CSS selector, and forcing file output. A selector is useful when you want one element without opening the Inspector. For example, the general pattern is:
:screenshot --selector "main article" --dpr 2 --filename article.pngUse the exact selector that exists in the page. If the screenshot icon or command is unavailable, open Developer Tools settings and enable the screenshot controls in the toolbox configuration.

What DPR does—and does not—do
DPR changes the scale at which Firefox rasterizes the page. It does not reconstruct texture or sharpness missing from a low-resolution source image. A 300-pixel photograph remains limited by that source even when placed in a 2× or 3× capture. Websites may provide different image resources for different pixel ratios; the browser can only use the asset and CSS it was given. For genuinely scalable text or print layout, investigate PDF output separately, remembering that a PDF is not guaranteed to preserve the page’s on-screen appearance.

Firefox is the best-documented built-in route for this guide, not a universal ranking of browsers. Browser menus and extension compatibility can change, so verify labels in your installed version.
Prepare the page for a clean, sharp capture
- Let lazy content load: scroll through the page once, wait for images, charts, and fonts, then return to the top before taking a full-page shot.
- Set the intended state: sign in when required, expand accordions you need, dismiss transient dialogs, and choose light or dark mode deliberately.
- Control width: resize the window or use Responsive Design Mode so line breaks and responsive images match the audience you are documenting.
- Check sticky elements: fixed headers, chat bubbles, and cookie notices may repeat or obscure content in a long capture. Close them where possible.
- Confirm assets: zooming the screenshot cannot repair a blurry source image. If an image looks soft at 100% in the page, it will remain soft in the export.
Quality, dimensions, and file-size trade-offs
Increasing DPR multiplies pixels and usually increases PNG size and processing time. A very tall page at DPR 2 or 3 may exceed the limits of image viewers, messaging systems, or document editors even when Firefox completes the capture. Save the original PNG, then create a resized copy for sharing. Do not judge quality by file size alone: a page with mostly text compresses well, while photographs and gradients do not.
After saving, inspect width, height, color mode, and transparency in an image editor. If text is still unreadable, first try a wider viewport or a higher DPR; if photographic detail is missing, obtain a higher-resolution source asset instead. For print, calculate the intended physical size and effective pixels per inch, but remember that browser screenshots are raster output rather than a print-proof workflow.

The full-page option is missing
Make sure you opened Firefox’s Take Screenshot panel rather than the operating-system screenshot utility. Use the documented keyboard shortcut, or update/restart Firefox if the page action is not appearing.
The capture stops before the bottom
Wait for lazy-loaded content, scroll through the document once, and retry. A page that changes height while Firefox is stitching the image can produce an incomplete result. If the document is exceptionally tall, capture logical sections separately.

The image is large but still blurry
Increase DPR only after checking the source asset. DPR enlarges the rendered raster; it cannot restore detail discarded by the website’s image file or compression.
Fonts, icons, or charts are missing
Wait for network requests and web fonts to finish, disable extensions that block resources, and capture again. If the page requires an account or a specific interaction, reproduce that state before invoking the screenshot command.
The file is too large to share
Keep the original PNG, then resize a copy, split a long page into sections, or use JPEG/WebP when photographic content makes lossless PNG unnecessarily large. Do not overwrite the archival original.
An automated API response is not a clean page

Will a higher DPR make text infinitely sharp?
No. It increases the number of rendered pixels, but sharpness remains limited by the page’s fonts, images, and other source assets.
Can I use a screenshot as proof of what a page said?
Treat it as a time-stamped visual record; dynamic pages, account-specific content, and later edits can make the image differ from the live page.
Should I choose PNG, JPEG, or WebP?
PNG preserves text and UI edges well. JPEG is often smaller for photographs but introduces compression artifacts. WebP can provide a smaller modern image when your destination supports it.
