Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The fastest way to capture several ordinary screenshots is to keep your operating system’s standard capture mode active and repeat its shortcut. Use a full-page or scrolling capture when the content extends below the screen. Windows and macOS offer repeatable keyboard workflows; iPhone, Android, Chrome for Android and Microsoft Edge can capture longer pages when the app and content support it.
First decide whether you need a sequence of separate images (one for each state or step) or one continuous image of a long document. That choice determines the right method.
Choose between a sequence and one long capture
- Use separate screenshots when you are documenting steps, comparing changing states, or annotating individual controls.
- Use a scrolling or full-page capture for one article, receipt, conversation or other document that continues below the viewport.
- Use smaller sections if the page changes while scrolling, contains an embedded scroll area, or produces an incomplete stitched image. Not every app or protected screen supports scrolling capture.
For a sequence, let the screen settle before each capture and keep the same window, zoom level and framing. Save or copy each image immediately so a later capture cannot overwrite your workflow.
Windows 10 and 11: repeat Snipping Tool captures
Capture the current screen
- Press Windows + Shift + S.
- Choose rectangular, window, full-screen or another mode offered by Snipping Tool.
- Select the area or window. The result appears in the Snipping Tool notification and editor.
For repeated captures in the same mode, press Alt + N to start a new snip. Use Ctrl + C to copy the current capture or Ctrl + S to save it. Snipping Tool can annotate captures and offers optional local text extraction, but OCR is not required for basic screenshots.

Control automatic saving
Windows can automatically save captures to the Screenshots folder. In Snipping Tool settings, review automatic-save behavior and change the default folder if needed. If files appear to be missing, check that setting before capturing the sequence again.
When Windows full-page capture is not enough
Snipping Tool captures the selected screen region; it is not a universal webpage stitcher. For a long webpage, use the browser’s full-page feature described below, or capture stable sections separately.
macOS: use persistent keyboard shortcuts or the Screenshot app
Keyboard shortcuts for repeated captures
- Shift + Command + 3: capture the entire display.
- Shift + Command + 4: drag a region.
- Shift + Command + 4, then press Space: capture a window or menu.
Repeat the shortcut after each state has settled. The window and menu mode keeps framing consistent, which is useful for a step-by-step guide.

Use Screenshot controls when timing matters
Press Shift + Command + 5 to open the Screenshot app. It lets you select the capture type, set a timer, choose a save location, show or hide the pointer, and control the floating thumbnail. Screenshots normally save to the desktop unless you select another destination.

iPhone: capture visible or full-page content
Take a normal screenshot
- On an iPhone without a Home button, press and quickly release Side + Volume Up together.
- On a Home-button model, press and quickly release Home + Side.
- Tap the thumbnail that appears if you need to mark up or crop the image.
Apple saves screenshots to Photos. For a sequence, return to the same screen state and repeat the button combination rather than relying on the thumbnail remaining visible.

Capture an entire supported page
After taking the screenshot, tap its preview and choose Full Page when that option is offered. Safari webpages are a documented example. Full Page is content-dependent; it will not appear for every app or view.
Android phones and Chrome: scrolling screenshots
Standard Android capture
- On many phones, press Power + Volume Down together.
- If that does not work, hold Power and tap Screenshot.
- If neither method is available, consult the phone maker’s instructions because button behavior varies by device.
Extend the image beyond the viewport
Android 12 and later support scrolling screenshots for most screens that allow scrolling. After the initial capture, choose Capture more, adjust the crop guides, and confirm. The option is limited to supported, scrollable screens; a non-scrolling view or an app that disables the feature will not offer it.
Long screenshots in Chrome for Android
- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Choose More > Share > Long screenshot.
- Drag the crop handles to include the desired length.
- Confirm to save or share the result.
This method is useful when you need one continuous webpage image rather than a set of viewport-sized captures.

Microsoft Edge on desktop: capture a full webpage
- Open the page in Edge.
- Open the Screenshot command from the right-click menu, Edge settings, or press Ctrl + Shift + S.
- Choose a selected area or Full webpage.
- Use the markup tools, then copy or save the result.
Edge’s Screenshot feature is built into the browser, but Microsoft says availability can vary by device, market and browser version. If Full webpage is absent, update Edge where your organization permits it or capture the page in smaller sections.
A repeatable workflow for many screenshots
- Define the output. Decide whether readers need discrete steps or one long document.
- Choose one capture mode. Do not alternate between region and window capture during the same sequence.
- Stabilize the screen. Wait for animations, menus and lazy content to finish before pressing the shortcut.
- Keep framing consistent. Use the same window size, zoom and scroll position for comparable images.
- Save as you go. Copy to the clipboard when another application needs the image immediately; save files when you need a durable sequence.
- Name files in order. A simple pattern such as
step-01,step-02andstep-03preserves the intended order. - Verify the result. Check that the pointer, sensitive data and required controls are visible before moving to the next state.
Platform comparison
| Platform or app | Fast repeated capture | Long-page option | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windows 10/11 | Windows + Shift + S; Alt + N repeats the mode | Use a browser full-page feature or separate sections | Automatic-save location and behavior are configurable |
| macOS | Shift + Command + 3, 4 or 4 then Space | Depends on the app; Screenshot app itself is screen-oriented | Some protected apps block screenshots |
| iPhone | Side + Volume Up, or Home + Side | Full Page when offered, such as supported Safari pages | Full Page is not available in every app or view |
| Android 12+ | Power + Volume Down, or Power then Screenshot | Capture more on most scrollable screens | Button steps vary by manufacturer; unsupported screens cannot scroll-capture |
| Chrome for Android | Use the normal Android shortcut | More > Share > Long screenshot | Requires Chrome’s sharing flow and a page that can be rendered for the long capture |
| Microsoft Edge desktop | Ctrl + Shift + S or Screenshot command | Full webpage | Availability varies by device, market and browser version |
Troubleshooting incomplete or failed captures
The shortcut does nothing
Confirm that you are using the shortcut for the operating system and keyboard layout in front of you. On Android, try Power followed by Screenshot because manufacturers change button combinations. On macOS and Windows, open the built-in Screenshot or Snipping Tool app directly to confirm it is available.
The full-page or scrolling option is missing
The current view may not be recognized as scrollable, the app may not support stitching, or the feature may be unavailable in that browser or device version. Try the documented browser command, then capture smaller sections with consistent overlap if the option remains absent.

The image stops early or contains moving content
Wait for the page to finish loading before capture. If content changes during scrolling, use several section captures instead of one stitched image. Embedded scroll regions may need to be captured independently.
Files are not where you expect
Check the save-location controls: Windows Snipping Tool can change its automatic-save folder, macOS Screenshot can choose a destination, and iPhone stores images in Photos. Clipboard-only captures will not create a file until you paste and save them.
A protected screen is blank
Some applications intentionally prevent screenshots. Do not assume a different shortcut will bypass that restriction; capture an allowed screen or use the application’s export feature instead.
Or skip the browser setup
If you are collecting screenshots from many URLs, an API avoids opening each page and managing a browser window. ScreenshotNeo is the first service to try because it removes consent banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture, bills only clean shots, and has a $5 paid plan for 3,000 shots.
