To save a webpage as one long image on a desktop, Firefox has a built-in option: right-click an empty area of the page, choose Take Screenshot, select Save full page, then choose Download. Mozilla says the downloaded image is a PNG. If you need a long image in Chrome, a Chrome Web Store extension such as FullPage Capture lists scroll-and-stitch capture with PNG and JPEG export. On iPhone, Firefox’s documented full-page workflow saves a PDF, not an image.
Choose a method based on your browser and desired file
A “long image” is a single image file that includes page content below the visible screen. The right method depends on whether you need a PNG or JPEG, whether a PDF is acceptable, and whether you are willing to install an extension.

Save a full webpage as a PNG in desktop Firefox

- Open the webpage in Firefox and wait for the content you want to capture to appear.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and select Take Screenshot. If the context menu is awkward to open, use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- In the screenshot interface, choose Save full page. This selects the whole page rather than only the visible viewport.
- Select Download to save the image. Mozilla identifies the downloaded screenshot as a PNG.
Use Copy instead if you want to paste the capture into another application rather than save a file. The Firefox screenshot UI supports copying the capture to the clipboard as well as downloading it.
If you only want the visible part
Choose the visible-area capture option rather than Save full page. This is useful when the reader only needs the current screen—for example, a visible chart or a specific section—and a long image would include unnecessary content.
Capture a long image in Chrome with an extension
The Chrome Web Store listing for FullPage Capture – Full Page Screenshot describes an extension that scrolls through a webpage, captures sections, and stitches them into a long screenshot. Its listing describes PNG and JPEG downloads, along with PDF export. These are publisher-listed capabilities, not independently verified results.

- Find the extension in the Chrome Web Store and review its current listing, including permissions and privacy information, before installing it.
- Open the page you intend to capture. If it requires a sign-in or contains private information, consider whether granting an extension access is appropriate.
- Start the extension using its current Chrome interface and choose its full-page capture action. The listing describes scrolling the page and stitching the captured sections; the exact controls can change with extension updates.
- When the capture is ready, select the listed image format you need, such as PNG or JPEG, and download it. Choose PDF instead only if a document is more useful than an image.
Another Chrome Web Store listing, GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture, is also a full-page capture extension. Check each extension’s current features, permissions, and privacy terms in its listing; the existence of a listing does not establish compatibility with every site or page layout.
Save a full-page capture on iPhone as a PDF
Mozilla’s Firefox for iOS instructions describe a full-page screenshot workflow that ends by saving a PDF. Use it when you need a full-page record and PDF is acceptable—not when your requirement is specifically a tall PNG or JPEG.
- In Firefox for iOS, take a normal screenshot of the webpage.
- Open the screenshot thumbnail that appears.
- Select Full Page.
- Tap Done, then choose Save as PDF.
The documented result is a PDF. Do not treat this route as an image-export method if the receiving app or service requires PNG or JPEG.

Get a cleaner, more useful capture
Prepare the page before capturing
- Scroll through the page first if important content appears only after interaction or scrolling. A capture tool cannot include content that the page never loaded.
- Close menus, dialogs, or overlays that you do not want in the image. In Firefox, the screenshot includes the page as it appears when captured.
- For a long page, check whether fixed headers or other sticky elements obscure content during scrolling. Scroll-and-stitch extensions may handle page sections differently, and their listings do not establish universal behavior.
- Consider the purpose of the capture. PNG is a suitable choice when you need an image file and Firefox’s built-in route produces PNG; JPEG may be offered by the Chrome extension listing. A PDF is more suitable when the recipient expects a document rather than a single image.
Check the result before sharing it
- Open the saved file and inspect the top, middle, and bottom of the page for missing sections or awkward joins.
- Check that text remains legible at the image’s actual dimensions. A very long screenshot can be inconvenient to view or share even when capture succeeds.
- Review the image for account details, personal data, or other content you did not intend to disclose.
Limitations and troubleshooting
Full-page capture is not proof that every page will render perfectly. Dynamic content, protected pages, and pages with their own internally scrolling areas may behave differently. The cited documentation does not promise universal compatibility, and the Chrome listing’s stated scroll-and-stitch capability does not establish how it handles every site.
