To capture an entire webpage, use a browser’s full-page screenshot feature—not the ordinary screenshot command, which usually records only what is visible on screen. In Firefox, right-click the page and choose Take Screenshot, then Save full page. In Edge, open Screenshot and choose Capture full page. On an iPhone, take a screenshot in Safari, open its thumbnail, and tap Full Page. The steps below explain how to choose the right capture, save or share it, and handle common problems.
Choose the right kind of webpage capture
First decide whether you need an image of the screen, an image of the entire page, or a document for reading and printing. Those are different results, and choosing correctly avoids capturing only the top of a long page when you needed everything below the fold.
| Your need | Recommended route | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Capture what is currently visible | Use your device’s ordinary screenshot command | A screenshot of the screen or browser viewport; content below the visible area is not included. |
| Capture a whole webpage on a desktop | Use Firefox’s Save full page or Edge’s Capture full page | A tall image containing content beyond the initial viewport. |
| Capture a whole webpage on iPhone | Use Safari’s screenshot thumbnail and Full Page | A full-page capture that can be navigated and cropped in its preview. |
| Capture only a section or page element | Use Firefox’s region or element capture; Edge offers a selected-area capture | A smaller image rather than the whole page. |
| Save a document for printing or searchable text | Use the print or PDF option available in your browser | A PDF is a different format from a screenshot image. The exact route depends on the browser. |
A screenshot records how the page rendered; it is not a reliable substitute for the page’s underlying text or a print-ready document. Use a PDF when that is what you need, and check the controls in your specific browser rather than assuming one universal PDF workflow.
Capture a full webpage in Firefox
Use the built-in screenshot menu
- Open the webpage you want to capture.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and select Take Screenshot. On macOS, Control-click the empty area. You can also open the tool with Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Select Save full page to include content below the screen. Choose Save visible if you want only the current viewport.
- To capture less than the whole page, draw a region or point to a page element highlighted under the pointer, when that option is available.
- Choose Download to save a PNG in Firefox’s default download folder, or choose Copy to put the screenshot on the clipboard.
The distinction between Save full page and Save visible matters: the first is for a scrolling webpage, while the second is a regular viewport capture. If a menu label differs in your installed version, open the page’s context menu and look for its screenshot option.

Use Firefox developer tools for more control
Firefox’s Developer Tools can also capture a full page or an element. Mozilla’s developer documentation describes a full-page screenshot button that may need to be enabled in Settings → Available Toolbox Buttons. This route is useful when you already work in Developer Tools, but the built-in page screenshot menu is simpler for an occasional capture.
Firefox’s Web Console also provides a :screenshot helper. Its documented options include --fullpage, --selector, --delay, --dpr, and --filename, as well as clipboard or file options. These let a developer target an element, wait before capturing, choose a device-pixel ratio, or specify a filename. Consult the current Firefox developer documentation for the exact syntax supported by your version before using the helper; do not assume every option is available in every release.
Capture a full webpage in Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage in Edge.
- Open Screenshot from the page’s right-click menu or Edge Settings. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose Capture full page to include below-the-fold content, or select an area when you need only part of the page.
- Use the available markup controls if you want to annotate the result, then copy or save it.
Microsoft’s documentation describes full-page capture as including content that would otherwise require scrolling to see. It also notes that moving content, such as GIFs and carousels, can remain active during capture. That means the image may reflect content while it is moving rather than a frozen state chosen by you. Availability and behavior can vary by device, market, and Edge version.

Capture a whole webpage on iPhone in Safari
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Take a regular screenshot by quickly pressing and releasing Side + Volume Up together. On an iPhone model with a Home button, press Home + Side together.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail if it appears, then select Full Page.
- Navigate the full-page preview and crop or mark it up if needed.
Apple documents a Safari webpage as an example of content that extends beyond the screen. Full-screen screenshots save to Photos by default. If you need to share the capture, use the sharing controls from the screenshot preview or Photos.

Get a cleaner or more targeted capture
Choose full-page, visible, region, or element deliberately
- Full page is right for a page you need to review from top to bottom. It can produce a very tall image, so consider whether a region or PDF would be easier to read or share.
- Visible area is right when the current screen is the complete context you need, such as a particular error or dialog.
- Region capture lets you frame just the relevant part of a page and omit unrelated browser content or surrounding sections.
- Element capture is useful for a specific panel or component. Firefox’s tools can select a page element; Developer Tools can target one using a selector.
Account for changing page content
Webpages can contain carousels, animations, delayed content, and images that load as you scroll. Edge’s documentation specifically says moving content can remain active during full-page capture, so a carousel may not show the frame you expected. If the result matters, wait until the page has settled and review the saved image. A missing lower-page image may be a loading issue rather than a screenshot-tool failure.
For developer workflows, Firefox’s screenshot helper documents a delay option, and element targeting can avoid capturing a whole page when only one component matters. Use these controls only when the installed browser supports them, and verify the final output rather than assuming a page rendered identically in every browser or capture.

When a browser screenshot is not the right method
The built-in routes above are intended for capturing a webpage manually. If you need repeatable captures in an application, scheduled jobs, bulk processing, or output from an AI agent, an API can fit better than setting up a browser for each capture. ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. A single GET request takes a URL and returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Its clean-shot steps can accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. AI agents can use its MCP server tools: take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.
Or skip the browser setup
For an API capture, create an access key and send a GET request with the page URL. This cURL example saves a WebP screenshot of Stripe; replace the target URL with the page you want to capture:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options, output formats, and authentication details. The same request can be made in Python or Node.js:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
- Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot.
- Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed; the response includes verdict and billing headers.
- An MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots, inspect page information, and capture PDFs.
- The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.

Troubleshoot common screenshot problems
The capture contains only what was on screen
You likely used the ordinary screenshot command or selected the visible-area option. Return to the browser’s screenshot tool and choose its full-page option: Save full page in Firefox or Capture full page in Edge. On iPhone, open the screenshot preview and choose Full Page.
The screenshot tool or option is missing
Browser labels and availability can change by version, device, and market. In Firefox, try the page context menu or the documented keyboard shortcut. In Edge, check the context menu and Settings as well as the shortcut. In Firefox Developer Tools, the full-page screenshot button may need enabling under Settings → Available Toolbox Buttons. If the controls still differ, check the current menu and documentation for your installed version.

Some page content appears only after loading or scrolling. Wait for the page to settle, then capture again and inspect the result. If only a particular section is required, try capturing that region or element instead of relying on a full-page capture. For pages with content that changes during capture, the saved image may show a different moment than expected.

The image is hard to read or unwieldy
A full-page screenshot can be very tall. Capture a smaller region or the relevant element if you need to send one detail. If the goal is to read, print, or search the document rather than preserve its rendered appearance, use a PDF workflow provided by your browser instead of treating a screenshot as a document.
The shortcut opens something unexpected
Shortcuts and menus can vary by operating system and browser version, and another application may use the same key combination. Open the browser’s page context menu or Settings and launch its screenshot control there. In Firefox, use Take Screenshot; in Edge, look for Screenshot.
Keep browser and device differences in mind
The steps above cover documented routes in Firefox, Edge, and Safari on iPhone. They are not a universal instruction for every browser or Android phone. Android long screenshots vary by phone maker and software version, and a current built-in full-page workflow for Chrome desktop is not established here. If you use another browser or device, look for a screenshot or scrolling-capture feature in its current menus rather than assuming the Firefox, Edge, or iPhone steps will apply unchanged.

Browser updates can also move or rename controls. The reliable check is whether the current tool explicitly offers a full-page capture, not whether a particular shortcut happens to work. Before sharing an important capture, open the saved image and confirm that it contains the intended page area and that moving or delayed content appears as you expect.
