Press Enter to save. You can add a cookie from the blank row, delete one selected cookie, or clear every cookie shown in the pane. The Size field is calculated automatically and cannot be edited.
This workflow is documented in the Chrome for Developers cookie guide. The labels below reflect the documented DevTools interface; Chrome release and operating-system differences are not established here, so check the current UI if a label has moved.
Open the cookie editor
- Open the page whose cookies you need to test.
- Open Chrome DevTools. You can use Chrome’s DevTools shortcut or the browser menu, then select More tools > Developer tools.
- Open the Application panel. If it is not visible, use the panel overflow menu to find it.
- In the left sidebar, expand Storage, then select Cookies.
- Select the origin you want to inspect. The table now shows cookies associated with that origin.
The Application panel is the origin-level view for stored browser data, including cookies; Chrome’s Application panel overview describes its storage capabilities.
Edit an existing cookie
- Find the cookie in the table. Use the filter box to search by Name or Value. Filtering is case-insensitive; DevTools does not filter by Domain, Path, expiry, or other columns.
- Select the row to inspect its value. If the value is percent-encoded, enable Show URL-decoded to view the decoded text.
- Double-click the field you want to change.
- Enter the replacement value and press Enter. DevTools highlights invalid field values in red so you can correct them before continuing.
All cookie fields except Size are editable. Size is measured in bytes and updates automatically after the cookie changes. A cookie’s effective behavior can therefore change when you edit its value, domain, path, expiry, security flags, or same-site setting.

Add a new cookie
- With the correct origin selected, scroll to the bottom of the cookie table.
- Double-click an empty row.
- Enter a Name and Value, then press Enter.
- DevTools fills other required fields automatically. Edit those fields afterward if your test requires a specific domain, path, expiry, or security behavior.
Choose a name that does not unintentionally collide with an existing cookie having the same scope. A cookie’s Domain and Path determine where it is sent, so a value that appears in the table may not be attached to every request from the site.
Delete one cookie or clear the pane
Delete one selected cookie
Select the cookie row and click Delete selected in the action bar above the table. This removes only that cookie.
Clear all cookies shown
Click Clear all to remove all cookies in the selected Cookies pane. Use this only when a complete cookie reset is intended; it can sign you out or remove consent and preference state for the origin.

Understand every cookie column

Inspect cookies for one network request
The Application pane answers “what cookies are stored for this origin?” To answer “which cookies were associated with this request?”, open Network, select the request, and open its Cookies tab. This request-level view helps distinguish a stored cookie from one actually sent or set during a particular navigation or API call.
Investigate third-party-cookie warnings
Chrome identifies a third-party cookie as one set by a site different from the current top-level page. In Application > Storage > Cookies, such entries can carry a warning icon. Hover over it for the tooltip, then select the icon to open Issues. The Network request’s Cookies tab can also highlight cookie problems, including warnings that third-party cookies are unavailable.
Practical test recipes
Force a feature flag
Locate the flag cookie, edit its value to the documented test value, then reload the page. If the flag is scoped to a path or subdomain, verify Domain and Path before concluding that the edit failed.

Test an expired session
Edit Expires / Max-Age to an earlier time or delete the session cookie, then reload and inspect the resulting request in Network. This tests the application’s unauthenticated branch without clearing unrelated preferences.
Test consent and personalization
Change only the consent or preference cookie required by your test. Avoid Clear all when you need to preserve another cookie that controls login or experiment assignment.

Troubleshooting
The cookie is not listed
- Confirm that you selected the exact origin, including the relevant subdomain.
- Reload the page or reproduce the action that sets the cookie.
- Check Network > the request > Cookies to see whether the request sets or receives it.
- Look for a partition key or third-party warning when the cookie belongs to embedded content.
The edited value has no effect
- Check Domain and Path: the request you are testing may not match them.
- Check Expires / Max-Age; an already expired cookie will not persist.
- Check Secure when testing an HTTP URL.
- Check whether application code immediately overwrites the value on reload.
- For HttpOnly cookies, test the server request rather than expecting
document.cookieto expose the value.
DevTools marks a field red
The entered value is invalid for that field. Correct the format and press Enter again. Size cannot be corrected manually because DevTools computes it from the stored cookie.

The cookie keeps returning after deletion
A response may be setting it again. In Network, reproduce the action and inspect response headers and the request’s Cookies tab. Delete the cookie, then identify the response that recreates it.
A third-party cookie is blocked
Use the warning icon and Issues panel for the specific explanation. Check the Network Cookies tab to see whether the cookie was excluded from the request. Editing a stored row does not override browser policy that prevents third-party delivery.

- Select the correct origin in Application > Storage > Cookies.
- Filter by Name or Value when the table is large.
- Double-click fields; press Enter to commit.
- Remember that Size is automatic.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I edit cookies with JavaScript instead of DevTools?
Only cookies accessible to page JavaScript can be changed that way. HttpOnly cookies are intentionally unavailable to JavaScript, so use DevTools or server-side testing.
Why does Chrome show “Session” instead of an expiry date?
The cookie has session lifetime rather than a persistent Expires or Max-Age value.
Does clearing cookies also clear local storage?
The documented Clear all action applies to cookies in the selected Cookies pane; it is not a general command to remove every Application-panel storage type.
