To take a screenshot, quickly press and release Side + Volume Up on an iPhone with Face ID, or Side + Home on an iPhone with a Home button. To capture content that continues below the screen, open the screenshot preview and tap Full Page when that option is available. You can drag across the long preview to inspect it, then save the capture as an image or PDF.
“Scroll on iPhone” can mean two different things: scrolling through a saved long screenshot, or making the live page scroll as it is captured. The built-in Full Page option does the first; it is not a video or an automatic scrolling recording.

Take a screenshot of the screen you can see
Apple’s button shortcut depends on the iPhone’s hardware. Press the two buttons at the same time, then release them quickly; do not hold them down. The screenshot is saved in Photos. Apple’s iPhone screenshot guide also describes capturing a full page or a specific portion of the screen.
iPhone with Face ID
- Press the Side button and Volume Up button together.
- Release both buttons quickly.
- Open the preview if you want to edit, crop, or make a full-page capture. Otherwise, the screenshot is saved to Photos.
iPhone with a Home button
- Press the Side button and Home button together.
- Release both buttons quickly.
- Open the preview if you need to work with the capture; the regular screenshot is saved to Photos.
Some older Touch ID iPhones have a top button instead of a side button. For those models, Apple’s support article specifies Top + Home. If the shortcut does not match your phone’s physical buttons, use the alternate controls below or consult Apple’s model-specific instructions in Take a screenshot.

Capture and scroll through a full-page screenshot
A standard screenshot records the visible screen. For a longer capture, first take a screenshot, open its preview, and choose Full Page if the option is offered. Apple gives a complete webpage in Safari as an example of content that can extend beyond the screen. Its documentation does not list every app that supports Full Page, so do not assume the control will appear for every screen or app.
- Open the webpage or other content you want to capture.
- Use the button shortcut for your iPhone to take a screenshot.
- Open the screenshot preview and tap Full Page.
- Drag a finger over the long preview at the side of the screen to move through the captured content and inspect lower sections.
- Use the crop handles if you want to narrow the captured area.
- Choose whether to save the full-page result as an image in Photos or as a PDF in Files.
Here, “scroll” means moving through the already captured long image in the preview. The preview lets you inspect more of the page than fits on the iPhone display at once; it does not make the live webpage keep scrolling while your phone takes a sequence of screenshots.
When Full Page is missing
Check that you opened the screenshot preview and look for Full Page there. If it is not available, the current app or screen may not offer the documented full-page capture option. Apple’s example is a Safari webpage, but the support guide does not promise identical behavior across all apps. You can still save a standard screenshot of what is visible, or capture successive screens separately if you need a record of content the full-page option cannot capture.

Find the screenshot and choose a format
A regular screenshot goes to Photos. Apple says you can find screenshots in Collections > Media Types > Screenshots. A full-page capture can be saved as an image in Photos or a PDF in Files; choose based on how you need to use it.

For a PDF, check Files rather than searching only in Photos. For a normal screenshot, check the Screenshots media type if it is not easy to find in the main photo library.
Use an alternative to the hardware buttons
Apple identifies Siri, AssistiveTouch, and Back Tap as alternatives for taking a screenshot. These built-in options can help if pressing two buttons together is inconvenient or you prefer a touch-based control.

AssistiveTouch
To enable it, open Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch. Apple describes AssistiveTouch as able to take screenshots and perform scroll gestures. If you need hands-free or adapted physical controls, Apple also notes that compatible adaptive accessories—such as a joystick—can be used with AssistiveTouch. An accessory is optional, not a general requirement.
For setup details and available controls, use Apple’s Use AssistiveTouch on iPhone guide. The precise controls you choose within AssistiveTouch depend on how you configure it; the screenshot shortcut itself remains a way to capture the screen, not a guarantee that every app supports Full Page.
Siri and Back Tap
Apple also lists Siri and Back Tap as screenshot alternatives. If either is more convenient, configure or invoke the built-in option on your device and then use the resulting screenshot preview when you want to inspect or edit the capture. These alternatives change how you trigger the screenshot, not what the current app supports capturing.

Understand differences in the screenshot preview
The preview’s appearance depends on iOS version. Apple’s support article says that on iOS 26 the screenshot appears automatically with quick tools. In iOS 18 and earlier, it describes a temporary thumbnail at the bottom left: tap it to open the screenshot, or swipe left to dismiss it. If your screen does not match one of those descriptions, use the screenshot interface shown on your installed iOS version rather than relying on the older thumbnail behavior.
Apple’s user guide also notes that screenshot display and SDR/HDR defaults can be adjusted. Those display settings are separate from the basic button shortcut and from whether a particular screen offers Full Page. For interface-specific details, refer to Apple’s guide linked above, whose path is marked for iOS 27; the available controls can vary with installed software.
Troubleshoot common screenshot problems
- The screenshot does not appear: Make sure you press the correct buttons for your iPhone’s layout and release them quickly. Face ID models use Side + Volume Up; Home-button models use Side + Home, with Top + Home on older models that have a top button.
- The screenshot preview disappears: On iOS 18 and earlier, Apple describes a temporary bottom-left thumbnail that can be swiped away. If you dismissed it, the regular screenshot is still saved in Photos.
- There is no Full Page button: Open the preview first. If Full Page still is not offered, that screen may not support the documented full-page workflow. Apple’s example is a Safari webpage, and its guide does not establish app-by-app availability.
- You only captured the visible section: A standard screenshot captures what is on screen. To capture a longer supported page, take the screenshot, open its preview, and choose Full Page before saving.
- You cannot find the saved file: Look under Photos’ Collections > Media Types > Screenshots for screenshots. If you chose the PDF option for a full-page capture, look in Files.
- The page is long and hard to inspect in the preview: Drag over the preview image to move through the captured content. Use crop handles to narrow the area if needed.
