Google Sheets does not provide a built-in “download selected cells as an image” command. To make an image, select and frame the cells, then use your computer or phone’s screenshot feature. If you need a document or PDF instead, use File > Print > Selected cells on a computer, or More > Share & export > Print in the mobile app.

Google’s official computer instructions document printing a selected range, while a Google Docs Editors Community answer says ordinary cell data has no image-download option and suggests taking a screenshot. Treat the community suggestion as a practical workaround rather than a product specification.
Take a screenshot of selected cells on a computer
- Open the spreadsheet. Go to Google Sheets and open the file containing the cells.
- Select the range. Drag across the cells, or select the first cell and extend the selection with your mouse or keyboard. Include only the rows and columns you want readers to see.
- Frame the selection. Resize the browser window or adjust the sheet view so every selected cell is visible and legible. Hide irrelevant columns, rows, sidebars, or browser tabs from the area you plan to capture. This framing step is visual preparation; it is not a special Sheets command.
- Use your operating system’s screenshot tool. Choose the tool’s region, window, or screen mode and capture the area containing the selected cells. Because shortcuts differ between Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, and Linux distributions, use the screenshot control documented for your platform rather than relying on an unverified key combination.
- Save or paste the image. Save the captured file in the format your destination accepts, or paste it directly into an email, document, issue tracker, or chat.
Make the image easier to read
- Zoom the sheet until text is readable without making the range wider than your screen.
- Keep the row and column headers only if they provide useful context; otherwise frame them out.
- Scroll so the top-left cell of the chosen range is visible before capturing.
- For a long range, take several logically overlapping screenshots instead of shrinking the text to illegibility.
- Do not assume a selected range is captured automatically: a screenshot tool records pixels that are visible, not the underlying selection.
Print selected cells to a PDF or paper document
Use this route when pagination, margins, orientation, or a clean document matters more than a PNG or JPEG. Google’s official instructions are documented in Print from Google Sheets – Computer.
- Select the cells you want to include.
- Choose File > Print.
- In the print settings, open the range menu and choose Selected cells.
- Review the preview and adjust available page settings such as orientation, margins, headers and footers, and custom page breaks.
- Continue to your browser or system print dialog. In Chrome, Sheets proceeds to a print dialog; Firefox or Safari may automatically download a PDF for viewing, depending on the browser workflow.
- Choose a printer, or select the PDF-saving option provided by your operating system or browser.
Printing selected cells can produce a cleaner result than a screen capture because the output is laid out for a page. It still does not create an image file of the range. If you specifically need a PNG, JPEG, or WebP, return to the device-screenshot method.

Android
- Open the spreadsheet in the Google Sheets app.
- Tap More.
- Choose Share & export, then Print.
- Use the Android print workflow if you need a document or PDF.
- For an image, close the print flow, frame the cells on screen, and use your device’s screenshot control. The exact gesture or buttons depend on the Android device and software version.

iPhone and iPad
- Open the spreadsheet in the Sheets app.
- Tap More.
- Tap Share & export, then Print.
- Continue through the iOS print interface for a paper or PDF result.
- For an image, return to the sheet, frame the desired cells, and use the screenshot control for your iPhone or iPad model.

Optional workaround: copy the range to Google Drawings
A Google Docs Editors Community discussion describes copying a table or range into Google Drawings and then downloading the drawing in an image format. The discussion is community advice, not official documentation, so availability and formatting may vary.

- Copy the selected cells in Sheets.
- Open or create a Google Drawing and paste the range.
- Position or resize the pasted object.
- Use the Drawing’s download options if an image format is offered for your account and current interface.
Read the community discussion at Copy table as an image. If the pasted object loses formatting or the download option is absent, use a device screenshot or the official print route instead.

Common problems and fixes
The screenshot contains extra rows, columns, or browser content
Use a region or window capture rather than a full-screen capture, and resize or reposition the browser before starting. Sheets cannot tell the operating system’s screenshot tool to capture only the selected range.
The cells are too small to read
Zoom the sheet or browser, narrow the selected range, and capture multiple sections. For a formal handout, print the selected cells and adjust orientation and margins in the print settings.

Print preview shows the entire sheet
Return to the sheet, select the range again, choose File > Print, and explicitly set the range to Selected cells. Do not leave the setting on Current sheet or another default.
The PDF is split awkwardly across pages
Use landscape orientation for wide tables, adjust margins, and place custom page breaks where the table should divide. Check the preview before saving.

Update the Sheets app and look for the sequence More > Share & export > Print. Google may revise labels by app version; the linked Android and iOS help pages are the authoritative references for the current documented route.

The copied Google Drawings object is not editable or downloadable

- Use a device screenshot for a quick image of visible cells.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I export only selected Google Sheets cells directly as a PNG?
Google’s documented Sheets workflow does not provide a direct image-download command for ordinary selected cell data. Capture the visible range with your device, or use the selected-cell print route for a PDF.
Will printing selected cells preserve formulas?
Printing produces a visual document of the displayed values and formatting; it is not an export of the underlying formulas or spreadsheet structure.

A normal device screenshot records visible pixels. For content longer than the viewport, capture several sections or use a print/PDF workflow.
