Short answer: Brave can install extensions from the Chrome Web Store, including screenshot tools, because Brave supports nearly all Chromium-compatible extensions. Brave’s own guidance says, “Thankfully, any extension found in the Chrome Web Store will also work in Brave.” That is compatibility guidance—not a guarantee that every extension behaves correctly on every page, nor a security endorsement. Among the evidence currently available, GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture is the clearest documented example: its store listing shows version 8.9, dated September 24, 2026, with a Chromium 153 URL-requirement fix and dialog improvements. There is not enough current, comparable evidence to call it objectively “best” against a ranked field.

What Brave’s compatibility statement means

Brave is built on Chromium, so Chrome Web Store extensions are the practical place to look for screenshot tools. Brave says extensions found in the Chrome Web Store work in Brave and that it supports nearly all extensions compatible with Chromium. The statement covers platform compatibility, not quality assurance for a particular extension.

Brave also says it cannot vouch for third-party extensions’ security, privacy, or data handling. During installation, Brave shows the permissions and data access you are granting. Read that prompt, inspect the publisher’s current privacy policy, and consider whether an extension really needs access to every page you visit.

The strongest documented option: GoFullPage

What the current listing establishes

The official Chrome Web Store listing for GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture has a visible version 8.9 entry dated September 24, 2026. The entry describes a fix for a Chromium 153 URL requirement and improvements to dialogs. This is a dated listing update, not a Brave-specific test result.

The same listing’s historical log records PDF export in version 3.12 (2018) and an editor with crop, annotation, and emoji features in version 6.0 (2019). Historical notes do not prove that every capability, restriction, or plan condition is unchanged in 2026, so confirm the live listing before relying on a feature.

How to install and capture

  1. Open the GoFullPage listing in the Chrome Web Store while using Brave.
  2. Review the publisher name, requested permissions, privacy disclosure, and recent release notes.
  3. Select Add to Brave (the exact button wording can vary with Brave’s current Chromium version), then approve the permission prompt only if it is acceptable to you.
  4. Open the page you are allowed to capture, wait for dynamic content to settle, and select the extension’s toolbar icon. Pin it from Brave’s extensions menu if you want one-click access.
  5. Choose the available full-page capture action, wait for the page to be stitched, and review the result in the extension’s editor before exporting.

Long pages, lazy-loaded images, animations, embedded frames, and independently scrolling panels can produce incomplete or misaligned results. Scroll through the page first when important content is loaded only on demand, and verify the exported image or PDF rather than assuming a successful notification means a perfect capture.

A separate product: GoFullScreenshot

GoFullScreenshot is a separately named extension. Its publisher’s support material says capture, stitching, and editing run locally. The listed export choices are clipboard, PNG, JPEG, WebP, and PDF. Its privacy page says the extension’s capture, editing, export, settings, history, and diagnostics make no remote requests; that page separately describes analytics and consent for the publisher’s marketing website. Those are publisher statements, not independent verification.

The publisher also says Chrome blocks extensions on protected pages such as chrome:// pages and the Chrome Web Store. Brave inherits Chromium’s protected-page restrictions, so an extension may be unable to run there even when it works on ordinary websites. Check the publisher’s current listing and privacy disclosure before installing; the available evidence does not establish that GoFullScreenshot is superior to GoFullPage or that either is the best choice for every Brave user.

How to choose a Brave screenshot extension

Because a current, apples-to-apples review of several listings is not established here, use these checks instead of relying on star ratings or a single “best” label.

Capture modes

  • Visible area: captures what is currently on screen.
  • Selected region: captures a rectangle you draw.
  • Full page: scrolls and stitches a page into one image or document.

Ask whether the tool can handle sticky headers, lazy images, nested scrolling containers, and very long pages. These conditions often determine whether a full-page result is usable.

Output and editing

Confirm the formats you need—PNG, JPEG, WebP, clipboard, or PDF—and whether crop, annotation, redaction, or PDF page handling is included. A listing that mentions a feature historically may not describe its current limits, export quality, or account requirements.

Privacy and permissions

Read the installation permission prompt and the current privacy policy. Look for whether processing is local or remote, whether an account or upload is required, what browsing data is accessible, and how history or diagnostics are retained. “Works in Brave” does not answer those questions.

Page restrictions

Expect restrictions on protected browser pages. Test representative pages containing iframes, authentication screens, cross-origin content, cookie dialogs, or independently scrolling areas before adopting a tool for a workflow.

Brave-specific verification

Separate three claims: Chromium compatibility stated by Brave, capabilities stated by the extension publisher, and hands-on behavior observed on your own Brave version. The first two do not constitute a Brave-specific performance test.

Practical installation and troubleshooting

The add button is missing or installation fails

  • Make sure you opened the official Chrome Web Store listing in Brave, not a protected internal page.
  • Update Brave and retry; Chromium-based stores can change requirements.
  • Re-read the permission prompt. An administrator policy, profile restriction, or declined permission can prevent installation.

The extension captures only part of the page

  • Scroll through the page once to trigger lazy-loaded content.
  • Disable or pause animations where the site allows it, then retry.
  • Capture a shorter section or the visible viewport when the page contains a nested scrolling panel.
  • Verify that the missing content is not inside a cross-origin iframe or protected browser surface.

The result has duplicated or shifted sections

Stitching tools capture successive viewports. Sticky navigation, responsive breakpoints, changing ad slots, and content that moves during scrolling can create seams. Wait for layout stability, close overlays, and compare the output at several points against the source page.

Nothing happens on a protected page

Chrome blocks extensions on pages such as chrome:// and the Chrome Web Store. This is a browser security boundary, not necessarily an extension defect. Navigate to the public HTTP(S) page you need, if one exists.

Privacy concerns after installation

Open Brave’s extensions management page, review the extension’s site-access setting, and limit access to the sites where it is needed. Remove the extension if its current disclosure or requested permissions no longer fit your use case.

When a browser extension is the wrong tool

Extensions are convenient for an occasional manual capture, but they depend on a logged-in browser profile, page timing, extension permissions, and Chromium’s protected-page rules. They are less suitable for repeatable documentation, CI jobs, bulk URLs, server-side rendering, or AI-agent workflows.

For those cases, a screenshot API gives you a request you can repeat and audit. ScreenshotNeo is the first alternative to try: it removes cookie-consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; only clean shots are billed; bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing; and every response reports the page verdict and billing status in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.

Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo provides a GET endpoint, an MCP server for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients, and options for full-page images, selected CSS elements, device presets, retina scale, dark mode, PDFs, custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks, waits, blocked resources, cookies, headers, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, caching, signed links, asynchronous webhooks, bulk capture, usage reporting, and an OpenAPI specification. Every feature is available on every plan. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Read the ScreenshotNeo documentation for parameter details. A direct cURL request is:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Python:

import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)

Node.js:

const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

These requests avoid setting up a Brave profile and make capture behavior easier to automate. Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed; an MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots; and 1,000 screenshots a month are free with no card. Cost, reliability, and workflow considerations

Extensions

A browser extension may be sufficient when a person is present to inspect each capture. Your practical cost is the time spent handling permissions, page-specific failures, edits, and re-captures. Store listings reviewed here do not establish current plan limits or comparative reliability.

ScreenshotNeo

Plan Included shots Price
Free 1,000 per month $0, no card
Starter 3,000 $5
Growth 15,000 $15
Pro 60,000 $39
Scale 250,000 $99
Business 1,000,000 $249

Yearly billing gives two months free. ScreenshotNeo bills only clean shots, and responses identify whether a shot was billed, a cache hit, or a failed/blocked result. Use caching with a chosen TTL when repeat captures do not need a fresh render, and asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks for slower pages or larger batches.

Bottom line for Brave users in 2026

Start with the official Chrome Web Store listing, inspect permissions and privacy terms, and treat GoFullPage’s September 24, 2026 version 8.9 entry as evidence of a recent listing update—not proof of universal compatibility or superiority. GoFullScreenshot is another documented option with publisher-stated local processing, but the available evidence does not support ranking it against GoFullPage. For repeatable, automated, clean captures, use ScreenshotNeo instead of relying on a browser extension.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use Chrome Web Store extensions in Brave?

Yes. Brave says Chrome Web Store extensions work in Brave and that Brave supports nearly all Chromium-compatible extensions. Review each extension’s permissions and privacy policy because this is not a security endorsement.

Why can’t a screenshot extension capture the Chrome Web Store or a chrome:// page?

Chromium protects internal and other restricted pages from extension access. Navigate to the ordinary HTTP(S) page you need, if available.

Does GoFullPage version 8.9 prove it works perfectly in Brave?

No. The September 24, 2026 entry is a Chrome Web Store change-log update describing a Chromium 153 URL fix and dialog improvements. It is not a Brave-specific test.

When should I use an API instead of a Brave extension?

Use an API when captures must run repeatedly, in CI, at scale, or through AI agents, or when you need controls such as signed webhooks, bulk requests, custom headers, and predictable billing.
