Microlink is the better general-purpose choice in 2026 when screenshots are one part of a larger URL workflow that also needs metadata, extracted text or HTML, PDFs, media, browser actions, ad blocking, device emulation or configurable caching. URL2PNG is the better focused service when you want a signed screenshot endpoint, predictable monthly fresh-render quotas, full-page output, CSS injection and CDN delivery.
ScreenshotNeo is the first alternative to try for a new screenshot integration: it removes consent banners, popups and chat widgets before capture, bills only clean shots, and has the lowest paid plan. The right choice still depends on authentication, browser control, cache policy and volume.
Quick verdict
| Service | Best fit | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| ScreenshotNeo | Clean production screenshots, automation and AI-agent workflows | Requires an access key (the Free plan needs no card, but API calls are authenticated) |
| Microlink | One API for screenshots plus metadata and content extraction | Paid pricing is request-based and its performance figures are vendor claims |
| URL2PNG | A narrow screenshot microservice with signed requests and monthly quotas | No free account; signing requires an API key, secret and MD5 token |
If your application may later need page metadata, text, HTML, PDF or media, start with Microlink. If the requirement is strictly image capture and your finance team prefers a stated number of fresh renders per month, URL2PNG is easier to model. If clean output and predictable billing matter most, try ScreenshotNeo first.
What each API actually does
Microlink
Microlink’s screenshot request requires a target url and a screenshot option. The result is returned as a CDN-hosted image asset. Its documented screenshot controls include the default viewport, full-page capture, a selected element, PNG or JPEG output, JPEG quality and direct asset embedding.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Microlink also positions the same platform for metadata and content extraction. Its browser controls include device emulation, JavaScript and CSS injection, click and wait actions, ad and cookie-banner blocking, proxy escalation, global edge delivery and configurable TTL caching. That breadth is valuable when a screenshot is only one step in a larger URL-processing pipeline.
URL2PNG
URL2PNG is deliberately narrower. Version 6 requests use an API key, an encoded target URL and a per-request token. The token is an MD5 hash of the query string plus your secret. Options cover full-page capture, viewport dimensions, thumbnail width, a custom CSS URL, user-agent and accepted-language overrides, a delay, JavaScript readiness through say_cheese, and a TTL.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The service advertises CSS3, SVG, webfont, video and JavaScript-controlled rendering, plus Fastly CDN delivery. It is a good fit when your team wants a small screenshot-specific dependency rather than a multi-purpose extraction API.

Pricing and quota mechanics
Microlink pricing
Microlink’s published free allowance is 25 requests per day. Its Pro plan is listed at $49 per month for approximately 46,000 requests per month. Business and Enterprise tiers add contractual support and dedicated-infrastructure options. The product page also claims a 99.9% SLA and P95 cold response under three seconds; those are vendor-published claims, not an independent head-to-head benchmark.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteURL2PNG pricing
URL2PNG publishes monthly fresh-render quotas:
| Plan | Price | Fresh screenshots |
|---|---|---|
| Bootstrapped | $29/month | 5,000 |
| Traction | $99/month | 20,000 |
| Killinit | $199/month | 50,000 |
| Enterprise | Contact sales | Not stated |
Additional screenshots are priced by plan. URL2PNG says screenshots are cached for 30 days, and a cache hit does not count against the plan during that period. It offers no free accounts and advertises a 10-day money-back guarantee.
ScreenshotNeo pricing
ScreenshotNeo has a Free plan with 1,000 shots per month and no card. Paid plans are $5 for 3,000 shots (Starter), $15 for 15,000 (Growth), $39 for 60,000 (Pro), $99 for 250,000 (Scale) and $249 for 1,000,000 (Business). Yearly billing gives two months free, and every feature is included on every plan.

Authentication, signing and security decisions
Microlink’s lower-friction start
Microlink states that free usage can be called without an API key. That is convenient for prototypes, but production code should still protect any credentials, restrict outbound targets and set timeouts. Treat user-supplied URLs as untrusted input: allow-list schemes, block private network ranges and avoid forwarding internal cookies.
URL2PNG’s signed URL model
For URL2PNG, compute the MD5 token from the complete query string plus the secret, then send the API key, token and encoded URL. Keep the secret on your server; never expose it in browser JavaScript. Sign the final parameter set, including dimensions, language, delay and TTL, so a client cannot alter a request after signing.
ScreenshotNeo controls
ScreenshotNeo supports custom headers, cookies, user agents, timezone, geolocation and Authorization. Store access keys in server-side secrets, and avoid logging headers or cookies that contain credentials. Its signed links are intended for public <img> tags, while asynchronous jobs can notify your backend through signed webhooks.
Capture controls that affect fidelity
Full pages and lazy content
Full-page screenshots are not equivalent across sites. Lazy images may load only after scrolling; animations and infinite feeds may never settle. Microlink documents full-page capture and browser waits. URL2PNG exposes a delay and the say_cheese readiness mechanism. ScreenshotNeo’s full-page mode loads lazy images and can wait for a selector, a delay or network idle.

Element, viewport and device rendering
Use an element selector when a page contains a large header or unrelated navigation. Microlink documents selected-element capture. ScreenshotNeo can capture one CSS-selected element, use 12 device presets or any custom viewport, and apply a retina scale. URL2PNG provides viewport dimensions and thumbnail width but does not state an element-capture option in the cited material.
CSS, JavaScript and interaction
Inject CSS to remove sticky bars or normalize print layouts. Inject JavaScript only when necessary because page scripts can change state or trigger authentication flows. Microlink lists CSS and JavaScript injection, click and wait actions, ad and cookie-banner blocking. URL2PNG provides a custom CSS URL, delay and readiness signaling. ScreenshotNeo adds custom CSS and JavaScript, click-before-capture, hide selectors, request/resource blocking and transparent backgrounds.
Runnable ScreenshotNeo request
The following one-call example captures Stripe as WebP. Replace the URL and access key. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for all options.
cURL
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
r.raise_for_status()
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`HTTP ${res.status}`);
const fs = await import('node:fs/promises');
await fs.writeFile('shot.webp', Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer()));
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo accepts consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers identify the page verdict and whether the shot was billed. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients. Free includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.
Performance, caching and reliability
Choose a cache policy deliberately
Use a long TTL for immutable documentation or release pages; use a short TTL or bypass caching for dashboards, prices and inventory. URL2PNG’s documented default is 2,592,000 seconds (30 days). Microlink exposes configurable TTL caching and CDN-hosted assets. ScreenshotNeo lets you choose the cache TTL and reports cache hits so billing can be reconciled.
Control render cost and latency
- Set a maximum navigation timeout and an overall request timeout in your client.
- Wait for a meaningful selector or network idle instead of an arbitrary long sleep when the page supports it.
- Block ads, trackers or heavy resource types when they are not part of the visual requirement.
- Use thumbnail or resized output for list views, and full resolution only for downloads.
- Queue bulk work; ScreenshotNeo accepts up to 100 URLs per call and supports asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks.
Microlink’s under-three-second P95 cold-response statement and 99.9% SLA are vendor claims. No independent Microlink-versus-URL2PNG benchmark establishes a universal speed winner, so measure your own URLs, regions and cache mix.

Troubleshooting guide
The image is blank or only partly rendered
Verify that the URL is publicly reachable, then wait for a selector, readiness signal or network idle. Increase the viewport height for content that appears only after scrolling, and disable overlays that obscure the page. For lazy images, use a full-page mode that scrolls or explicitly trigger loading.
Cookie dialog, newsletter or chat widget is visible
Microlink documents ad and cookie-banner blocking. With URL2PNG, inject CSS or target a page state that suppresses the overlay. ScreenshotNeo removes supported consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture; individual cleanup steps can be disabled when the banner itself is required for documentation.
URL2PNG returns an authentication error
Re-encode the target URL, rebuild the exact query string, append the secret as required by the v6 signing rule and recompute the MD5 token. A changed parameter, ordering difference or stale secret invalidates the signature. Keep signing on the server.
Microlink output is stale
Inspect the configured TTL and request a shorter cache lifetime for frequently changing pages. Remember that CDN delivery can return a previously generated asset until the TTL expires.

- A daily free allowance is useful for development.
Choose URL2PNG when
- Your service is image-only and you want signed requests.
- Monthly fresh-render quotas and explicit cache exclusions simplify budgeting.
- You need CSS URL injection, user-agent/language overrides and a 30-day default TTL.
Choose ScreenshotNeo first when
- Clean screenshots without consent UI, popups or chat widgets are the goal.
- You want failed loads, bot checks, blank pages and cache hits excluded from billing.
- Your workflow includes AI agents, PDFs, bulk capture, signed image links or detailed browser controls.
- You want to start with 1,000 free shots monthly and no payment card.
Migration checklist
- List the exact output requirements: viewport, full page, element, format, dimensions and transparency.
- Record dynamic behavior: login, cookies, lazy loading, animations, consent and bot checks.
- Choose a cache TTL and define whether a cache hit should count toward internal quotas.
- Implement server-side URL validation, credential storage, timeouts and retry limits.
- Capture a representative set of pages at desktop and mobile widths.
- Compare visual fidelity, latency, cache behavior and billed-versus-failed responses before switching all traffic.

The cited Microlink and URL2PNG material does not establish a standard authenticated-session workflow. Plan for a server-side browser or API integration that can securely supply the required session, and verify the provider’s current authentication options before committing.
Does a cache hit use a URL2PNG screenshot quota?
URL2PNG states that cached screenshots do not count against the plan during its stated 30-day cache period.
Is Microlink’s free allowance monthly?
No. The published allowance is 25 requests per day; the cited material does not describe it as a monthly pool.
Can I use screenshots directly in an HTML img tag?
Microlink documents direct asset embedding, and ScreenshotNeo provides signed links for public img tags. URL2PNG’s cited material confirms CDN delivery but does not state an equivalent signed-link feature.
