Webflow does not document a built-in scheduler for screenshots of published pages. To capture a live Webflow site automatically, publish the page, run a browser-automation script such as Playwright against its public URL, save the image, and run that script from a scheduler you control (for example, an existing CI job or local job runner). Playwright can capture the visible viewport, the complete scrollable page, or one element.
What you can and cannot automate in Webflow
Webflow’s documented tools cover publishing, Designer extensions, and APIs for changing site content or custom code. They do not describe a native recurring screenshot job for a published website. A script that deploys custom code through Webflow’s Custom Code API is still a deployment script; it does not render the page to an image or schedule captures.
The production workflow is therefore separate from Webflow:
- Publish the site and identify the public URL you want to monitor.
- Use Playwright (or another browser automation tool) to load that URL.
- Wait for the state you need, then save a viewport, full-page, or element screenshot.
- Run the script on a schedule in your own CI system, job runner, server, or local scheduler.
The exact scheduler depends on your environment. The important boundary is that scheduling happens where the script runs, not inside Webflow.

Prerequisites and a safe capture plan
Publish a stable target
Use the published HTTPS URL, not a Designer canvas URL. Confirm that the page is publicly reachable from the machine that will run Playwright. If the site is protected by authentication, keep credentials in the runner’s secret store rather than hard-coding them.
Choose what “screenshot” means
| Capture | Use it for | Playwright behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Viewport | Checking the first screen at a chosen device size | Captures only the currently visible area |
| Full page | Visual archives, documentation, and long-page review | Captures the page’s scrollable height |
| Element | Monitoring a hero, pricing table, form, or other component | Captures a locator’s bounding area |
Decide the viewport, device scale, image format, and filename convention before scheduling. A consistent viewport and deterministic filename make later comparisons meaningful.
Install Playwright
In a new Node.js project, install the library and at least one browser:
npm init -y
npm install -D playwright
npx playwright install chromium
Run the installation on every runner image that does not already contain the browser binaries. Pin your dependency versions in the project lockfile so scheduled captures do not change unexpectedly after an unattended update.

Viewport screenshot
Create capture-webflow.mjs:
import { chromium } from 'playwright';
const url = process.env.WEBFLOW_URL || 'https://example.webflow.io/';
const browser = await chromium.launch();
const page = await browser.newPage({
viewport: { width: 1440, height: 900 },
deviceScaleFactor: 1
});
try {
await page.goto(url, { waitUntil: 'networkidle', timeout: 60000 });
await page.screenshot({ path: 'webflow-viewport.png', type: 'png' });
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
Run it with:
WEBFLOW_URL=https://www.example.com/ node capture-webflow.mjs
networkidle waits for network activity to settle, but it is not a guarantee that every image, animation, or third-party widget is visually finished. Add a targeted wait when the page has a known readiness condition.

Full-page capture
Change the screenshot call to:
await page.screenshot({
path: 'webflow-full-page.png',
fullPage: true,
type: 'png'
});
Full-page mode captures the scrollable document rather than only the initial viewport. Very long pages can create large files and may expose layout changes caused by lazy loading, sticky elements, or animations.
Capture one Webflow component
Give the target element a stable class or ID in Webflow, then use a locator:
const hero = page.locator('[data-screenshot="hero"]');
await hero.waitFor({ state: 'visible', timeout: 30000 });
await hero.screenshot({ path: 'webflow-hero.png', type: 'png' });
A semantic attribute such as data-screenshot is often less fragile than a generated class name. If the locator matches multiple elements, narrow it with a more specific selector or .first() deliberately.
Recommended Free Tools
JPEG or WebP output and retina scale
Playwright supports PNG, JPEG, and WebP output (where supported by the installed browser). JPEG and WebP can reduce storage; PNG is preferable for crisp text and pixel comparisons. Set a larger device scale factor when you need a high-density image:
const page = await browser.newPage({
viewport: { width: 1440, height: 900 },
deviceScaleFactor: 2
});
await page.screenshot({
path: 'webflow-retina.webp',
type: 'webp',
quality: 85,
fullPage: true
});
Higher scale increases dimensions and file size. Keep scale constant across scheduled runs.
Make captures deterministic
Wait for a selector or a known state
await page.goto(url, { waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded', timeout: 60000 });
await page.locator('main').waitFor({ state: 'visible', timeout: 30000 });
await page.waitForTimeout(1000);
Prefer a meaningful selector or application-ready signal over a long fixed delay. A short delay can allow fonts and transitions to settle, but excessive delays make a scheduled job slow.

Handle lazy-loaded images
For a full-page archive, scroll through the document before capturing so lazy content has an opportunity to load:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteawait page.evaluate(async () => {
await new Promise(resolve => {
let last = 0;
const timer = setInterval(() => {
window.scrollBy(0, window.innerHeight);
const height = document.documentElement.scrollHeight;
if (height === last) {
clearInterval(timer);
window.scrollTo(0, 0);
resolve();
}
last = height;
}, 200);
});
});
await page.screenshot({ path: 'webflow-loaded.png', fullPage: true });
Use a timeout guard in production if a page continuously changes height. You can also wait for a specific image or section instead of scrolling every page.
Reduce visual noise
Cookie banners, chat launchers, rotating carousels, timestamps, and animated video can produce differences between runs. If those elements are not part of what you are testing, hide them with a temporary style or disable animation in the page context. Do not hide an element whose presence is itself the thing you are monitoring.
await page.addStyleTag({ content: `
*, *::before, *::after {
animation: none !important;
transition: none !important;
caret-color: transparent !important;
}
`});
Fonts and third-party resources can still vary by runner. Use the same browser version, viewport, timezone, locale, and network conditions for comparable runs.
Run the capture automatically
CI or a job runner
Put the script and lockfile in the repository that already runs your scheduled jobs. The job should install dependencies, install Chromium if needed, set WEBFLOW_URL, execute the script, and upload the resulting image to your chosen artifact or storage system. Keep the URL, credentials, and storage keys as secrets or environment variables.

A local scheduler can invoke the same command at an interval, but it only runs while that machine is available. Add logging, a nonzero exit code on navigation or screenshot failure, and retention rules for old images. Scheduling the command does not make it a Webflow feature; it is an operating-environment responsibility.

Use stable filenames and metadata
Include the page path, capture type, viewport, and timestamp in either the filename or adjacent metadata. Keep the original response and a small log containing navigation time, final URL, and any error. This makes a blank or redirected page distinguishable from a genuine visual change.
Webflow Designer snapshots are a different operation
Webflow’s Designer API includes webflow.getElementSnapshot(element). It returns a PNG data URL, or null, for an element accessible to a Designer Extension. That API is intended for a selected element inside Designer. It is not a full-page screenshot facility for the published site and does not replace the Playwright workflow above.
Troubleshooting scheduled screenshots
The image is blank or only partly rendered
- Confirm the URL is the published page and inspect the final URL after navigation for redirects.
- Wait for a page-specific selector, fonts, or a key image rather than relying only on a short delay.
- Check that the runner can reach the site and that a firewall, bot check, or authentication wall is not replacing the page.
- For full-page captures, scroll to trigger lazy loading before taking the image.
TimeoutError during navigation or locator waits
- Increase the timeout only after identifying the slow operation.
- Use
domcontentloadedfor pages with long-lived analytics connections, then wait for the specific content required. - Verify that the selector still exists after the latest Webflow publish.
Element locator matches nothing
Inspect the published DOM, not the Designer layer name. Add a stable ID or data attribute in Webflow, ensure the element is on the chosen page, and account for iframes: content inside an iframe requires a frame locator.
Captures differ on every run
- Fix viewport and device scale factor.
- Disable nonessential animation and wait for fonts and images.
- Use the same browser build, locale, timezone, and color-scheme settings.
- Mask or hide rotating content only when it is outside the test’s purpose.
The job works locally but fails in CI
Install the browser in the CI image, verify its sandbox permissions, expose the required environment variables, and save Playwright’s error output and a diagnostic screenshot on failure. Network egress restrictions and missing system fonts are common differences between machines.
Files become too large
Capture the viewport or a specific element instead of the entire document, use WebP or JPEG where appropriate, lower device scale, and apply retention limits. Do not lower quality if the image is used for pixel-level regression without first validating the effect.

Reliability, performance, and cost considerations
- Reliability: fail the job when navigation, readiness, or screenshot writing fails; otherwise a successful process can silently archive an error page.
- Performance: one browser process per batch is usually more efficient than launching a new browser for every URL. Reuse a context when pages share settings, but isolate cookies when captures must be independent.
- Security: treat cookies, authorization headers, and captured images as sensitive. Redact secrets from logs and restrict artifact access.
- Change detection: compare images only after standardizing rendering conditions. A different font, viewport, or consent state can create a false visual change.
- Cost: the browser job consumes your runner’s compute, storage, and network resources. The reviewed Webflow and Playwright documentation does not establish a required scheduler, hosting price, or universal operating cost.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single request can capture a published Webflow URL as PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for parameters; the API accepts options for full-page or element capture, viewport and device presets, retina scale, waits, custom CSS and JavaScript, headers, cookies, user agent, timezone, geolocation, blocking, caching, signed links, asynchronous jobs, webhooks, and bulk capture.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://www.example.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://www.example.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://www.example.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Before the shot, ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and each response reports the page verdict and billing status in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
