To save a website screenshot, use your browser’s built-in capture tool: Firefox and Microsoft Edge can capture a whole page or a selected area on desktop, while Safari on iPhone offers a Full Page option for a webpage. Choose a visible or selected-area capture when you need only what is on screen; choose full-page capture when you need content below the fold. The exact controls depend on your browser and device.
Choose the kind of screenshot you need
A standard screenshot records the visible screen. It may leave out page content farther down. A full-page screenshot is designed to include more of the webpage than fits in the current view, while a selected-area capture lets you limit the image to a particular region. Those options are not identical across browsers, so use the workflow for your device below.
- Visible screen: Use this for a quick record of what is currently displayed.
- Whole webpage: Choose a full-page option when the page continues below the screen.
- Part of a page: Use a selected area or, in Firefox, an automatically highlighted page part if you want to exclude surrounding content.
A screenshot is an image of the page’s appearance, not a saved, interactive copy of the website. If you need the page itself to remain navigable, a screenshot is not a substitute for that.
Save a website screenshot in Firefox on desktop
Firefox provides explicit choices for the full page, the visible portion, or a selected part. Its capture tool can download a PNG or copy the image to the clipboard.

- Open the webpage you want to capture.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and select Take Screenshot. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS. If the right-click menu is being used to interact with page content, try the keyboard shortcut instead.
- Choose Save full page for the entire page, or Save visible for the part currently on screen. To capture less than either option, select a custom region or an automatically highlighted page part.
- Select Download to save a PNG in Firefox’s configured downloads folder. Select Copy if you want to paste the screenshot into another application.
If you cannot find the menu item, confirm that Firefox is the browser displaying the page and try the shortcut. The labels above are Firefox’s documented desktop controls; other browsers and versions may use different menus.
Capture a page or element with Firefox Developer Tools
Firefox Developer Tools offer additional screenshot controls for users who need to capture the entire page or a single element. The screenshot button is disabled by default; enable it in Developer Tools Settings under Available Toolbox Buttons. Mozilla’s documentation also describes the Web Console :screenshot helper and options for full-page capture, delay, device-pixel ratio, selector, clipboard, and filename. Consult the Firefox Developer Tools screenshot documentation for its command syntax and option details. If you reuse a filename, a later capture overwrites the earlier file.
Save a website screenshot in Microsoft Edge
Edge’s Screenshot tool can capture a full page or a selected area, then lets you mark up, copy, or save the image. Microsoft describes the tool as able to capture long or moving webpages and keep moving content on screen during capture; that is Microsoft’s feature description, not a guarantee for every page.

- Open the webpage in Edge.
- Open Screenshot from the page’s right-click menu or the Edge Settings menu. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose a full-page capture or select an area, as appropriate.
- Use the overlay’s markup controls if needed, then copy or save the result.
Microsoft cautions that Screenshot availability and functionality can vary by device type, market, and browser version. If the menu or behavior differs on your installation, check the current Edge interface rather than assuming every device has the same controls. Take a full-page Safari screenshot on iPhone
On iPhone, the screenshot preview gives you the option to capture a full Safari webpage, rather than only the screen currently visible. Apple documents these steps in its iOS 27 iPhone screenshot guide.
- On an iPhone with Face ID, quickly press and release the side button and volume-up button together. On an iPhone model with a Home button, press and release the Home button and side button together.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail when it appears.
- Choose Full Page to capture content beyond the screen, such as an entire Safari webpage. Crop or mark up the preview if needed.
- Save the screenshot. It is automatically saved to the Photos library.
The Full Page instruction is for the Safari webpage workflow Apple documents; do not assume that the same option appears for every app or on every device.

Where the screenshot goes and what to check
The destination depends on the workflow. Firefox’s Download saves a PNG in its configured downloads folder, while Copy places the image on the clipboard for pasting. On iPhone, the screenshot is saved to Photos. Edge provides copy and save controls in its capture overlay.
- If you chose Copy, switch to the application where you want to use the image and paste it; it will not appear as a downloaded file merely because you copied it.
- If you chose Download in Firefox, look in the browser’s configured downloads location.
- If you captured on iPhone, open Photos and look for the saved screenshot.
- Before sharing, check that you captured the intended extent: a visible capture can omit the rest of a long page, while a full-page capture may include material you did not intend to share.
When a built-in capture is not enough
The browser methods above are the most direct choice for an occasional screenshot made by hand. The screenshot contains only the visible screen
That is the expected result if you used a visible-screen capture. In Firefox choose Save full page; in Edge choose full page; on iPhone, open the screenshot thumbnail and choose Full Page for the Safari webpage.

You cannot find the Screenshot or Take Screenshot command
Check that you are using the browser named in the steps, then try its shortcut: Firefox uses Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on macOS; Edge uses Ctrl+Shift+S. Menus can vary by browser version, device, and market, particularly in Edge.
The saved image is not where you expected
In Firefox, distinguish Download from Copy: the former saves to its configured downloads folder; the latter is intended for pasting into another app. iPhone screenshots go to Photos. In Edge, use the overlay’s save control if you need a file rather than a copied image.
A later Firefox capture replaced an earlier file
Firefox’s Developer Tools screenshot documentation notes that reusing a filename overwrites the earlier file. Choose a different filename for each capture you need to keep.
Full Page is not available on iPhone
Apple documents this option in the screenshot preview for a Safari webpage. Make sure you have taken a screenshot, tapped its thumbnail, and are capturing a webpage in Safari; the guide does not establish that the control appears in every app.
Which method should you use?

There is no documented like-for-like speed or image-quality comparison among these browser tools. For an ordinary one-off capture, use the built-in workflow for the device you already have; use an API when automation or repeatability is the requirement.
