For a one-off image, use Airtable’s Web Clipper in Google Chrome. Add an attachment field, choose Add screenshot for a selected area or Add page screenshot for a full page, then add the result to a record. For recurring or bulk captures, store each page URL in a URL field and run an Airtable automation that calls a screenshot API and writes the returned image URL into an attachment field.

The Web Clipper is documented for paid Airtable plans and Google Chrome. Owners and Creators can create, delete and modify extensions; Editors can edit an existing extension’s configuration.
Take a screenshot manually with Web Clipper
- Open your base and select Tools → Extensions → Add an extension.
- Search for web clipper, add it, and configure a clip action for the table that will hold the image.
- Add or select an Attachment field. The clipper offers Add screenshot, Add page screenshot and Add image from page.
- In Google Chrome, open the target webpage and click the Web Clipper icon.
- Select your clip action. Use Add screenshot to draw a rectangle, or Add page screenshot for a full-page image. Use Add image from page when the page already contains the exact image you need.
- Review the captured content and choose Add record. Airtable creates a record and places the image in the attachment field.
Use a viewport selection when you need only the visible portion of a page. A full-page capture is better for archival records, design reviews and portfolio evidence. The extension can also prefill a page URL, title, selected text or CSS-selector values when those values are available on the source page.
Build an automatic screenshot workflow
1. Create the fields
In the target table, create:
- URL — a URL field containing the page to render.
- Screenshot — an Attachment field that will receive the image.
Keeping the source URL in its own field makes retries, audits and later recaptures straightforward.

2. Configure the trigger
Create an automation triggered when a record is created or when a record is updated. Add a condition that the URL is not empty, so a partial record cannot launch a failed request. Pass the URL and record ID into a Run a script action as input variables named, for example, url and recordId.
3. Call the rendering service
Airtable automation scripts can use fetch() for external calls. The provider must return a publicly reachable image URL (or another URL Airtable can download) for the attachment update. The pattern below illustrates the control flow; replace the endpoint and response property with the provider’s documented API.

});The same design can use fullPage: false for a viewport-only image or darkMode: true for a dark-mode render. Keep API keys in the automation’s secret or configuration facility rather than exposing them in ordinary fields.
4. Handle asynchronous providers
Some services return a job ID instead of an image immediately. In that case, have the automation submit the job and use a webhook, a scheduled polling step or an external worker to update the attachment when the job finishes. Airtable also documents incoming webhooks and the Web API for jobs that run outside the automation environment.

Save the returned image in Airtable
Once your worker has an image URL, update the record through Airtable’s API or an automation action. Attachment values are supplied as an array of objects containing url; use a stable, downloadable URL and retain the source URL and capture timestamp in separate fields if you need an audit trail. If your provider returns a short-lived URL, download the file to durable storage first or complete the Airtable update before it expires.
Bulk-capture an existing table
- Read records from the Airtable Web API, selecting the URL and Screenshot fields.
- Process each non-empty URL through your screenshot provider.
- Update each record’s attachment field with the resulting image URL.
- Continue with the returned offset until there are no more pages.
The Web API returns up to 100 records per page and documents a limit of 5 requests per second per base. Monthly API-call allowances listed by Airtable are 1,000 for Free, 100,000 for Team and unlimited for Business and Enterprise, subject to other limits. Throttle your worker, retry transient failures with backoff and checkpoint the last successful page so an interruption does not restart the entire backfill.

Reliability, rendering and cost decisions
Full page versus viewport
- Viewport: lower image dimensions and faster processing when only the visible area matters.
- Full page: captures content below the fold and is preferable for archives, QA evidence and portfolio records.
Dynamic and protected pages
JavaScript-heavy pages may need a selector wait, a fixed delay or network-idle wait. Login walls, bot checks and CAPTCHAs depend on the provider’s rendering and anti-bot capabilities; verify those behaviors before promising a result. Custom cookies, headers or authorization may be required for private pages, and those credentials should never be written into a public Airtable field.

Capture only when the URL changes, use caching where an unchanged page is acceptable and avoid recapturing failed records indefinitely. With ScreenshotNeo, only clean shots are billed and cache hits are not billed; inspect the response headers when reconciling usage.
Troubleshooting
The Web Clipper is missing
Confirm that you are using Google Chrome and that your Airtable plan includes the extension. Ask an Owner or Creator to add or modify the extension; an Editor can modify an existing configuration.
The attachment is empty
Check that the automation received a non-empty URL, that the provider response was successful and that the returned image URL is reachable without an expired signature. Log the HTTP status and response body, but never log API keys or cookies.
The image is cropped
Use Add page screenshot or set the API’s full-page option. For long pages, wait for lazy-loaded content and confirm that the provider supports full-page stitching.

The page is blank or blocked
Test the URL in a normal browser, then inspect the provider’s verdict or error. Protected pages may require a user agent, cookies, authorization or a provider with anti-bot handling. Do not treat a bot-check page as a successful screenshot.
The automation times out
Reduce unnecessary waits, use a viewport capture, or move long-running work to an asynchronous job and update Airtable through a webhook or external worker.
