You can technically retrieve a known Audible /pd/ product page and read fields such as title, author, narrator, rating, price, currency, and availability. The difficult part is not HTML parsing: Audible’s current agreements restrict commercial collection of product listings, descriptions, and prices, and prohibit data-mining tools without express written permission. Obtain written authorization or a licensed feed before automating requests, then collect only the domains, fields, locales, rate, retention period, and redistribution rights that authorization allows.
This guide shows a permission-first workflow, runnable Python, cURL, and Node.js examples, defensive JSON-LD parsing, normalization, failure handling, and an API-style alternative.
Check permission before sending an automated request
Audible’s License Agreement, last updated February 18, 2025, says the license does not include commercial use or “any collection and use of any product listings, descriptions, or prices.” It also excludes “data mining, robots, or similar data gathering and extraction tools.” The Conditions of Use prohibit systematically extracting or reusing parts of the service and creating databases containing substantial portions such as prices and product listings without express written permission.
The iOS Conditions of Use, last updated September 10, 2025, additionally prohibit commercial or illegal use and attempts to disable, bypass, modify, defeat, or circumvent DRM or other protection systems. These are contractual restrictions, not parser errors. A production project should have a written authorization or licensed data feed that specifies:

- Maximum request rate, concurrency, and permitted collection schedule.
- How long raw pages and normalized records may be retained.
- Whether records may be redistributed, displayed publicly, or used commercially.
- A contact and process for corrections, updates, and deletion requests.
Do not bypass robots controls, CAPTCHAs, bot checks, authentication, paywalls, DRM, or other technical barriers. Stop collection when access is denied or the terms change, and retain the authorization evidence with your project records.
What an Audible product page can contain
The ACX Book Posting Agreement identifies digital ISBN or a similar identifier, title, genre, author, publisher, initial publication date, territory, and list price as metadata Audible may use for marketing, distribution, and sale. That agreement describes metadata categories; it does not grant a third party permission to scrape them.
Technical documentation and community examples show that product pages commonly expose a JSON-LD script containing name, price, currency, and availability. Other examples include author, rating, and regular price. Markup is volatile: fields can disappear or vary by locale, experiment, login state, or availability. Treat every value as a snapshot, not a permanent catalog fact.

Permission-first extraction workflow
- Define the authorization. Write down domains, locales, fields, rate, retention, redistribution, and a takedown contact before coding.
- Use known product URLs. Begin with a small list of authorized
/pd/URLs. Do not crawl search results or build a catalog unless the permission expressly covers that activity. - Fetch normally. Use a standard HTTP client, follow the authorized rate, and identify your application honestly. Never add logic to evade a block.
- Parse structured data first. Read
script[type="application/ld+json"]blocks, then use visible labeled fields only as a documented fallback. - Preserve evidence. Save the raw response, URL, locale, status, and UTC retrieval timestamp when the authorization permits raw storage.
- Validate values. Check identifiers, keep prices as locale-specific strings, and attach currency, language or marketplace, and availability to every record.
- Monitor and stop. Log missing fields, selector changes, access denials, and CAPTCHAs. Pause the job and contact the rights holder when terms or page behavior changes.
Python: fetch and parse one authorized product page
Install requests and beautifulsoup4. The program below accepts a URL at runtime, fetches only that page, parses JSON-LD when present, and emits a record containing the raw HTML and retrieval time. Run it only for URLs and fields your authorization covers.

Extend the code to walk an @graph array and to map visible labels such as Author or Narrator for your permitted locales. Keep the fallback mappings versioned so a selector change is visible in your logs rather than silently producing empty records.
Equivalent cURL and Node.js requests
For a one-page diagnostic, set an environment variable to an authorized product URL. cURL returns the response body; it does not bypass a denial or solve a CAPTCHA.

- Store the marketplace and language beside every price, rating, and availability value. A dollar amount without its currency and locale is not a reliable price.
- Keep the displayed price string. Convert to a numeric amount only after applying the locale’s decimal and thousands separators, and retain the original for auditability.
- Do not infer a narrator, author, or publisher when the page omits it. Use null or an empty array and record that the field was absent.
- Use the ASIN or digital ISBN as a string identifier. Do not assume every identifier is interchangeable with a print ISBN.
- Attach retrieval time to ratings, review counts, prices, and availability. These values can change without the product URL changing.
- Hash or otherwise identify the raw response only when permitted; raw HTML can contain account, personalization, or other data outside your approved field list.
Reliability, rate limits, and operating costs
Direct authorized HTTP requests usually use fewer dependencies and can cost less than a managed retrieval service, but your application must handle timeouts, retries, parsing changes, logging, and deletion requests. A managed provider may simplify retries and rendering; it does not replace Audible’s permission or expand the fields you are allowed to collect. Compare any legitimate option on authorization and redistribution rights first, then field completeness, locale coverage, request limits, reliability, cost, auditability, and deletion handling.

Use a conservative request rate and bounded concurrency from the authorization. Cache only for the permitted duration. A cache hit should not be mistaken for a fresh price or rating. Record HTTP status, response size, parser version, and failure reason. Retry transient network failures with backoff, but do not retry an access-denied response indefinitely. Separate a queue of authorized URLs from parsing so a schema change can be replayed against stored responses when storage is allowed.

Is there an Audible API instead?
The external audible project documents catalog-product endpoints with filters such as ASIN, title, author, narrator, publisher, and keywords. Its documented response groups include contributors, media, price, product attributes, descriptions, details, plans, ratings, reviews, samples, series, and SKU data.
That project is unofficial documentation, not proof of a supported public Audible API. Before using it, confirm current endpoint behavior, authorization, credentials, rate limits, permitted fields, and redistribution rights with Audible. An API-shaped response does not remove the contractual restrictions that apply to the underlying catalog.
