Amazon Prime prices at a glance
Amazon Prime is more than a shipping subscription. It combines eligible-product delivery with streaming, music, reading, photo storage, gaming, grocery savings and other services. The best plan depends mainly on how long you expect to use it, whether you qualify for a discounted membership, and whether you want Prime’s shopping benefits or only video.

Quick recommendation: choose annual Prime if you expect at least 10 months of use and can comfortably pay $139 upfront. Choose monthly Prime for seasonal or uncertain use. If eligible, Prime Access is the cheapest monthly full-Prime plan, while Prime for Young Adults is usually the best option for an eligible student or 18-to-24-year-old.

Regular Prime monthly vs. annual: which is cheaper?
Regular Prime costs $14.99 per month or $139 per year. Paying monthly for 12 months costs $179.88, so the annual plan saves $40.88. Its effective monthly cost is about $11.58.
- Choose annual Prime if you expect to use it for roughly 10 months or longer, order regularly, or use several Prime benefits.
- Choose monthly Prime if you need it for a holiday-shopping period, a move, a particular event, a short trial period, or an uncertain number of months.
The exact break-even calculation is $139 divided by $14.99, or about 9.3 months. In practical terms, the annual plan becomes cheaper once you would otherwise make the 10th monthly payment. Annual billing does not provide a lower-benefit version of Prime; it is primarily a payment-frequency choice.
Do not treat annual as automatically better. Paying upfront can be a poor fit if your finances are uncertain, and cancellation or refund eligibility depends on how you bought the membership and whether you used Prime benefits.
Discounted Amazon Prime memberships
Prime for Young Adults
Amazon’s current name is Prime for Young Adults. Older articles may call this Prime Student, but those articles can have outdated pricing, eligibility rules or benefit descriptions.
The membership costs $7.49 per month or $69 per year after the introductory period. Twelve months of monthly billing would cost $89.88, making the annual option $20.88 cheaper for a full year. Eligible new members receive six months at $0.
You may qualify if you are:
- Between 18 and 24 years old; or
- A student in higher education, including a student older than 24.
Amazon may verify age using a driver’s license, passport or identity card. Higher-education students may be able to verify with a qualifying .edu email address. Amazon’s verification decision and any prior enrollment can affect eligibility.
Amazon currently markets the membership as including Prime’s core shopping and entertainment benefits, with additional young-adult promotions potentially available for a limited time. Do not rely on older claims that the trial excludes Prime Video, Music or Reading unless the live offer specifically says so. Check the details at Amazon’s Prime for Young Adults page before enrolling.
Prime Access
Prime Access costs $6.99 per month and includes Prime benefits. It is available to qualifying government-assistance recipients and customers who complete Amazon’s income-verification process. Eligible new members can receive a 30-day trial.
Amazon lists these qualifying programs:
- SNAP EBT
- Medicaid
- WIC
- SSI
- Direct Express
- TANF
- National School Lunch Program
- LIHEAP
- Tribal TANF
- NAP
- Veterans and Survivors Pension
- SSDI
- Federal Public Housing Assistance
Prime Access eligibility must be reverified every 12 months. Amazon currently advertises Prime Access as a monthly plan, so do not assume an annual Prime Access option exists unless the signup page offers it. An eligible customer generally has no financial reason to pay the $14.99 standard monthly rate, but should be prepared to complete the verification and reverification steps. What Amazon Prime includes
Benefits vary by marketplace and location. In the U.S., the main benefits fall into these categories.
Shopping and delivery
Prime provides free, fast delivery on millions of eligible products. Depending on the item, address and local availability, options may include Same-Day, One-Day and Two-Day Delivery. Amazon says more than 300 million items in the U.S. have free Prime shipping, while tens of millions offer Same-Day or One-Day Delivery.

That does not mean every Amazon listing ships free or quickly. Eligibility depends on the specific product, seller, product variation, inventory, delivery address and order cutoff time. Marketplace sellers may set different delivery terms. The promised date shown for the particular item and address at checkout is the one to rely on. Prime Video
Prime includes access to eligible Prime Video movies, series and some live sports, but it is not an all-inclusive video catalog. Some titles are available to rent or buy, and Prime Video Channels are separate paid subscriptions. Catalogs and sports rights change by country and over time.
There is also an important current distinction: Prime Video included with standard Prime is now ad-supported in the U.S. It is not automatically ad-free. The optional Prime Video Ultra upgrade is explained in detail below.
Amazon Music
Prime includes access to Amazon Music’s 100 million-song catalog and ad-free top podcasts, but the standard Prime Music experience is not the same as Amazon Music Unlimited’s unrestricted, on-demand tier. Amazon describes Prime Music with limitations such as shuffle playback.
Amazon Music Unlimited is a separate subscription. Prime members currently pay $10.99 per month or $109 per year for it. If you need to select any song on demand consistently, do not assume the included Prime Music benefit works like Music Unlimited.

- Prime Reading: A rotating selection of eBooks, audiobooks, comics and magazines.
- Amazon First Reads: Prime members may receive a monthly selection of books through the program.
- Amazon Photos: Unlimited full-resolution photo storage plus 5 GB of video storage.
These benefits can be particularly valuable if you already pay for photo storage or regularly read the available rotating catalog. The selection is not the same as an unlimited subscription to every Kindle book or audiobook.
Gaming
Prime Gaming benefits include access to an evolving Luna game library, rotating PC games and one monthly Twitch channel subscription. The specific games, offers and availability change, so treat gaming as an ongoing bonus rather than a fixed catalog.
Grocery, delivery and savings
U.S. Prime members may also receive:
- Free Same-Day Delivery on eligible Amazon.com grocery orders over $25 in most areas.
- Whole Foods Market and Amazon Fresh savings.
- $0.10-per-gallon fuel savings at more than 7,500 participating bp, Amoco, ampm and Thorntons locations.
- Grubhub+ included, with $0 delivery fees on eligible orders over $12, lower service fees and other benefits.
These are potential value, not guaranteed savings. Fuel benefits require a participating location, grocery delivery depends on geography and eligibility, and the value of Grubhub+ depends on how often you order qualifying meals. Amazon’s benefit pages may present estimated dollar values, but those figures only matter if you actually use the service.
Healthcare-related programs are separate
Prime does not include healthcare. Some optional programs are offered to Prime members at separate prices:

Prime Video pricing: included, standalone and Ultra
Prime Video is easy to misunderstand because Amazon offers several different arrangements:

Prime Video included with standard Prime
The included U.S. Prime Video benefit contains limited advertisements. Amazon lists support for:
- HD
- HDR10 and HDR10+
- Dolby Vision
- Up to four concurrent streams
- Up to 50 downloads
These limits apply across account profiles, and actual playback depends on the title, device, provider, bandwidth and other content restrictions.

Prime Video Ultra
As of April 10, 2026, Prime Video Ultra costs $4.99 per month or $45.99 per year for customers with an annual Prime membership. It requires either Prime or Prime Video.
Ultra adds:
- Ad-free viewing for eligible Prime movies and shows.
- 4K/UHD quality.
- Dolby Atmos.
- Up to five concurrent streams.
- Up to 100 downloads.
This corrects two common outdated claims: the ad-free upgrade is no longer accurately described as a $2.99-per-month option, and 4K/UHD is not included in the standard Prime Video benefit described above.
Ultra is not necessarily ad-free for every piece of programming. Live events and some ad-supported content may still contain ads. 4K/UHD and Dolby Atmos also require a compatible title, device and setup, along with sufficient bandwidth and any applicable account or provider support. Standalone Prime Video
Amazon recognizes video-only memberships in its Prime Video terms, but Amazon’s public U.S. signup pages do not consistently show a standalone price. Current secondary coverage commonly reports an ad-supported standalone plan at approximately $8.99 per month, with Ultra available for an additional $4.99 per month.
That $8.99 figure is not an unconditional global price. The standalone offer can depend on region and checkout status, so verify the live price and availability before subscribing. If the reported offer is available, the rough comparisons are:

If you want streaming only, standalone Prime Video may be the more direct choice. If you would use even one or two meaningful shopping or storage benefits, full Prime may offer more value for the additional cost. Compare the live checkout offers rather than relying on an old pricing article.
Can you share Amazon Prime?
Amazon Family, formerly called Amazon Household, is free to set up, but one adult must have Prime. It is designed for people in the same household, not as a general way to share Prime shipping with unrelated friends at different addresses.
Amazon Family supports:
- One additional adult for many Prime benefits.
- Up to four children in the household.
- Up to five adults for Amazon Photos sharing.
- Separate adult Amazon accounts.
- Shared Prime delivery, selected digital content, Prime Video, some music access, Grubhub+ and fuel benefits.
Adults must be at least 18 and live in the same household. Not every Prime benefit is shared, and children cannot shop independently through Prime. Adults should use their own Amazon accounts rather than sharing one login. See Amazon’s Amazon Family guide.
Older instructions may refer to the former Prime Invitee arrangement, which allowed a different kind of shipping sharing. Amazon replaced that arrangement with more restrictive household-based Amazon Family rules. Associated Press coverage explains the change.

Free trials, auto-renewal and cancellation
The currently advertised U.S. trial offers are:
- Regular Prime: 30 days for eligible customers.
- Prime for Young Adults: Six months at $0 for eligible new members.
- Prime Access: 30 days for eligible new members.
Trials automatically convert to paid memberships unless cancelled. Before starting a trial, note the renewal date, plan selected and payment method.
How to cancel Prime
- Open Amazon.com or the Amazon Shopping app.
- Go to Prime Membership or Manage Prime Membership.
- Select Manage Membership.
- Select End Membership.
- Follow the confirmation screens until Amazon confirms the cancellation.
Labels can vary by app version, country and billing provider. If you subscribed through Apple, Google, a mobile carrier or another third party, you may need to cancel through that provider, and its refund rules may apply. Amazon’s cancellation guide and free-trial guide provide the current account-management instructions.
Will Amazon refund a cancelled membership?
Cancellation does not automatically guarantee a refund. Amazon’s terms generally connect refund eligibility to whether you used Prime benefits during the current membership period. A third-party-billed membership follows the third party’s rules, and you should not assume that an annual membership will receive a prorated refund.

Save the confirmation screen or email. If the account page still shows an upcoming renewal after you cancel, verify the cancellation status and billing provider rather than assuming it succeeded.

Prime is most likely worth the price when you use several benefits or regularly place eligible orders. It is less compelling if you mainly want one or two Prime Video titles, rarely shop at Amazon, or would not use the included extras.
Choose regular annual Prime when:
- You expect at least 10 months of use.
- Your household orders regularly and values faster delivery.
- You use Prime Video, Music, Photos, Reading, gaming or Prime-exclusive deals.
- You can comfortably pay $139 upfront.
Choose regular monthly Prime when:
- Your use is seasonal or uncertain.
- You want Prime for one event, move or shopping period.
- You may cancel within nine months.
- Monthly cash flow matters more than the annual discount.
Choose Prime for Young Adults when eligible:
For an eligible 18-to-24-year-old or higher-education student, this is generally the strongest default value: six months free, then half-price monthly billing compared with regular Prime, or a $69 annual plan.
Choose Prime Access when eligible:
At $6.99 per month, Prime Access is cheaper than both regular Prime and Prime for Young Adults monthly pricing. The trade-off is eligibility verification and annual reverification.
Choose standalone Prime Video when:
- You want streaming only.
- Prime delivery, Music, Photos, Reading and shopping discounts have little value.
- The live signup page confirms that the standalone offer is available at the price you expect.
A simple value test
List the benefits you would genuinely use in a typical month: eligible delivery, Prime Video, music, photo storage, Grubhub+, grocery savings, fuel savings and reading or gaming. Ignore advertised dollar values for benefits you would not otherwise purchase. Then compare that real-world value with the plan price, including taxes and any add-ons such as Ultra, Music Unlimited, Channels or rentals.
Important limitations people often miss
- Prime shipping is not free shipping on everything. It applies to eligible products and offers, and speed depends on inventory, address, cutoff time and location.
- Prime Video is not an unlimited free catalog. Rentals, purchases and Prime Video Channels cost extra.
- Included Prime Video is not ad-free. In the U.S., standard Prime Video includes limited advertisements.
- Ultra is not guaranteed to remove every advertisement. Live events and some ad-supported programming may continue to show ads.
- Prime Music is not Music Unlimited. The included service has playback limitations.
- Prime benefits differ by location. Delivery, sports, grocery, fuel, Grubhub+ and healthcare-related offers may not be available everywhere.
- Amazon Family is not unrestricted account sharing. Adults must live in the same household, and many benefits—not all—are shared.
- Discount eligibility is not permanent without verification. Prime for Young Adults eligibility depends on Amazon’s checks, and Prime Access requires reverification every 12 months.
- Taxes may be added. The prices in the U.S. table are before applicable taxes.
- Business Prime is separate. Do not compare or combine consumer Prime pricing with Amazon’s business membership.
U.S. prices do not apply internationally
The prices in this article are for the United States only. Prime Video is available in more than 240 countries and territories, but each marketplace can have different plans, catalogs, delivery promises, discounts and taxes. For example, current official marketplace pages list:
- United Kingdom: £8.99 per month or £95 per year. See Amazon U.K.’s Prime Video page.
- Germany: €8.99 per month or €89.90 per year, with separate discounted student, young-adult and social-assistance offers. See Amazon Germany’s Prime page.

Do not convert these prices directly into U.S. dollars and assume the plans are equivalent. Local benefits, taxes, content rights and delivery coverage differ.
FTC Prime settlement: what customers should know
The Federal Trade Commission says Amazon agreed to a $2.5 billion settlement concerning alleged unwanted Prime enrollment and difficult cancellation flows. The settlement is not a reason to assume that every current enrollment is unlawful, but it may matter to some U.S. customers.

According to the FTC’s Amazon refunds page, eligible customers may receive up to $51 if they meet the settlement’s enrollment, date and usage criteria. The FTC says claims notices began in January 2026 and payments for the claims process are expected later in 2026.
Use the FTC page or the official settlement website to check eligibility. Do not pay a third party a fee to submit a claim or obtain a refund.
