The best podcast host depends less on the size of its feature list than on the limit you are most likely to hit. Some services charge according to new upload hours, while others use monthly downloads, private subscribers, or video-upload allowances. A free plan may also restrict archiving, monetization, or platform independence.

The providers below cover the main use cases: starting a first show, managing several podcasts, publishing through WordPress, adding video, and keeping costs low. Prices and plan details reflect the providers’ published US pricing pages checked August 9, 2026. Annual billing, taxes, regional availability, and promotions can change the final cost.

1. Buzzsprout — best for first-time podcasters

Buzzsprout has one of the least complicated publishing workflows. Its paid Audio plan costs $18 per month and includes up to six hours of new uploads each month, unlimited episodes, advanced statistics, a podcast website, directory listings, and premium features.

The free plan allows two hours of uploads per cycle, but episodes remain hosted for only 90 days. That makes it useful for testing the workflow or launching temporarily, not for building a permanent back catalog.

  • Listener-support and subscription payments carry a 15% fee.

Choose it if: you are publishing one audio show and value a guided interface more than unlimited storage or advanced network management.

2. Transistor — best for multiple podcasts and teams

Transistor charges according to monthly downloads rather than upload hours. Its $19-per-month Starter plan supports unlimited podcasts and team members, and includes advanced analytics, API access, a built-in website, 20,000 monthly downloads, and 50 private-podcast subscribers.

The $49 Professional plan raises the allowance to 100,000 monthly downloads and 500 private subscribers. It also adds dynamic ads, dynamic show notes, and automatic YouTube posting. The $99 Business plan supports 250,000 monthly downloads and 3,000 private subscribers.

“Unlimited podcasts” means that several shows can live under one account; it does not mean unlimited listener traffic. Individual audio files can be up to 1,000 MB, and the service offers a 14-day free trial. Dynamic advertising is not included in Starter, and transcription is an add-on rather than a standard listed feature.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose it if: you run a podcast network, agency, company, or several public and private shows from one workspace.

3. Captivate — best for growth-focused creators

Captivate starts at $17 per month when billed yearly. Its Personal plan includes multiple podcasts without upload or storage limits, a 30-day free trial, and 30,000 monthly downloads.

The service puts detailed measurement on every plan. Its analytics include IAB-certified measurement, location and device data, episode comparisons, unique-listener reporting, and web-player analytics. Captivate also promotes private podcasting, memberships, tips, marketing tools, guest booking, and dynamic advertising, although specific allowances can vary by plan.

  • Pricing is based on monthly downloads, not storage.
  • Captivate says it will not automatically upgrade an account for overages without contacting the customer first.
  • The advertised $17 rate is the annual-billing price; monthly billing can cost more.
  • Directory distribution or submission assistance does not guarantee approval by each listening platform.

Choose it if: you want strong analytics and built-in growth, marketing, private-feed, and monetization features without reserving those capabilities for an expensive analytics tier.

4. Castos — best for unlimited shows and WordPress

Castos Essentials costs $19 per month or $190 per year. It includes unlimited podcasts, episodes, and downloads, automatic distribution, listener analytics, private podcasting for up to 100 subscribers, and 10 transcripts per month.

Its strongest differentiator is WordPress integration. The Seriously Simple Podcasting plugin lets you publish and manage a show from the WordPress dashboard while syncing with Castos hosting. Castos also offers migration assistance from several other hosts.

The $49-per-month Growth plan adds features such as YouTube republishing, advanced customizable reports, a private-podcast mobile app, and 25 transcripts per month.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not interpret “unlimited downloads” as unlimited access to every feature. Private subscribers and transcription allowances remain plan-specific. If a trial ends without conversion, Castos says the account is frozen and the RSS feed and episodes become unavailable. Canceling also makes hosted files unavailable, so export or migrate before closing the account.

Choose it if: your site runs on WordPress, you manage several shows, or you want a flat-rate plan without a public-download ceiling.

5. RSS.com — best low-cost all-in-one option

RSS.com All in One Podcasting costs $11.99 per month when billed annually. The plan includes unlimited episodes and audio, an RSS feed, podcast website, scheduling, directory distribution, advanced analytics, team members, AI-generated transcripts, an unbranded player, dynamic ad insertion, and audio-to-video conversion for YouTube.

There is also a free Local and Niche plan with unlimited episodes and audio, a website, embeddable player, basic analytics, automatic distribution, transcripts, listener donations, and human support. It is positioned for community, local, or highly specialized shows rather than as a universally unrestricted free tier.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That distinction matters: eligibility or use-case restrictions can affect the free plan, and requesting subscriber-only features or publishing beyond the intended use may prompt a move to another tier. Team members, unbranded embeds, advanced analytics, AI transcripts, and dynamic advertising are paid-plan features.

Choose it if: you want hosting, a website, distribution, monetization, transcripts, and video repurposing at a low annual price, and your show fits the free plan’s stated audience if you are avoiding a subscription.

6. Podbean — best for audio, video, and built-in monetization

Podbean Unlimited Audio costs $12 per month with annual billing or $17 when paid monthly. It provides 1 GB of new uploads per month—approximately 16 hours of audio—along with unlimited total storage, unmetered bandwidth subject to its Fair Usage Policy, advanced statistics, a customizable website and player, one-click distribution, and monetization tools.

Video requires a higher plan. Unlimited Plus costs $29 per month annually or $39 monthly and supports two audio or video podcasts with 10 GB of monthly uploads. The Network plan costs $79 per month annually or $99 monthly, supports unlimited audio and video podcasts, provides 40 GB of monthly uploads, and allows up to 50 team members.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The basic plan supports one audio podcast channel. Unlimited storage also does not mean unlimited new uploads: the monthly allowance still applies. Dynamic-ad-insertion pricing and availability vary by plan; some tiers list it at $1 CPM while others include it.

7. Libsyn — best for established shows and upload-based pricing

Libsyn uses new-upload hours rather than monthly downloads for its main public plans:

Plan Monthly price New audio uploads
Basic $12 3 hours per month
Advanced $25 10 hours per month
Max $150 55 hours per month

Listed plans include audio and video hosting, multi-user access, IAB-verified analytics, a customizable website, monetization options, and a 30-day free trial. Libsyn’s pricing page also lists video uploads up to 100 GB per month—approximately 50 hours.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Advanced includes YouTube and Spotify video distribution, while Basic includes YouTube video distribution. Libsyn also supports automatic audio-to-video publishing to YouTube. Its pricing page lists Apple HLS video support as “Coming Soon,” so that feature should not be treated as currently available.

The upload allowance covers new material, not total catalog storage or monthly downloads. A large audience does not automatically create a download overage, but frequent or long episodes can exhaust the allowance quickly. The pricing page also displays an $8 “bare essentials” link, while its main public plans begin at $12; verify eligibility and included features before treating $8 as the standard plan.

Choose it if: you value a long-established host, multi-user publishing, IAB analytics, and predictable upload-based pricing.

Spotify-hosted shows may qualify for the Spotify Partner Program and Spotify subscriptions, but availability depends on the show, market, and program requirements. Video and monetization features are not necessarily available to every account or country.

The product was formerly known as Anchor, so current instructions and support pages use Spotify for Creators. It is not Spotify-exclusive: Spotify says creators can distribute beyond Spotify, and externally hosted shows can still use some creator tools. Nevertheless, a paid host may be a better fit if long-term portability, platform neutrality, or independence from Spotify’s monetization rules is important.

Choose it if: you are starting a hobby or early-stage show at no hosting cost and your audience and monetization plans are strongly centered on Spotify.

How to choose a podcast host

  1. Estimate your publishing volume. A weekly 60-minute show needs about four new upload hours per month before trailers, bonus episodes, and failed replacements. That makes upload-hour plans such as Buzzsprout or Libsyn worth checking carefully.
  2. Estimate audience traffic separately. If you already expect tens of thousands of monthly downloads, compare download ceilings at Transistor or Captivate rather than focusing only on storage.
  3. Decide whether you need video now. Podbean’s basic plan is audio-only, while Libsyn, Spotify for Creators, and higher Podbean tiers support video workflows.
  4. Check private-feed capacity. Employee training, paid communities, and courses often hit private-subscriber limits before public-download limits.
  5. Review migration and cancellation terms. Keep a local copy of every media file, artwork file, transcript, and show-note document before moving or canceling.
  6. Separate hosting from distribution. An RSS feed or automatic submission does not guarantee approval by Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, or another directory.

Common podcast-hosting claims that need context

  • Google Podcasts is not a current distribution destination. Google Podcasts was retired. Current YouTube guidance centers podcast discovery and RSS ingestion on YouTube and YouTube Music.
  • “Unlimited” rarely means unlimited everything. Providers may still limit downloads, private subscribers, upload volume, transcripts, video conversion, or team features.
  • Directory submission is not directory approval. Each listening platform has its own technical, content, and eligibility checks.
  • YouTube RSS ingestion does not distribute everywhere. It creates videos for YouTube and YouTube Music, does not send the show to other podcast platforms, and is available only in selected countries or regions.
  • Free is not always cheapest over the life of a show. Buzzsprout’s free plan keeps episodes for only 90 days, while other free services may tie monetization or features to one platform.

FAQ

What is the best podcast hosting provider for beginners?

Buzzsprout is the simplest choice for a first audio show because its publishing workflow is guided and its paid plan includes a website, statistics, directory listings, and other essentials. Its upload-hour limit should be checked before committing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which podcast host supports multiple shows?

Transistor, Captivate, and Castos all support multiple podcasts on their listed plans. Transistor is especially suited to teams and networks, Captivate emphasizes growth and analytics, and Castos is particularly useful for WordPress publishers.

Can I host a podcast for free?

Yes. Spotify for Creators offers free hosting, and Buzzsprout and RSS.com have free options with important restrictions. Buzzsprout’s free episodes are hosted for 90 days, while RSS.com’s free plan is positioned for local or niche shows.

Should I choose a host based on storage or downloads?

Choose based on the limit you are most likely to reach. Upload-based services limit how much new material you can publish each month; download-based services limit audience traffic. Also check separate limits for private subscribers, video, transcripts, and monetization.

The Bottom Line

For a straightforward first show, choose Buzzsprout. Choose Transistor for several shows or a team, Captivate for analytics and growth tools, and Castos for WordPress or unlimited public downloads. RSS.com is the strongest low-cost all-in-one option, while Podbean is better when audio, video, and built-in monetization belong in the same service. Libsyn suits established publishers that prefer upload-based pricing, and Spotify for Creators is the practical free starting point for Spotify-centered shows.
