A static YIFY/YTS proxy site list cannot be responsibly presented as a verified list of working or official domains. The original YIFY/YTS operation shut down permanently on October 30, 2015. Websites that later adopted names such as YTS, YIFY, YTS.AG, or YTS.MX should be treated as unofficial successors, imitators, or unrelated operators unless their ownership can be independently established.
As of August 2026, domain availability, redirects, blocking orders, and copycat sites change too quickly for a 2024 list to remain dependable. More importantly, a proxy or mirror does not make unauthorized movie downloads lawful or make a site safe.
Why there is no verified YIFY/YTS proxy list
Proxy directories and “YTS status” pages are generally self-published. Their claims that a domain is official, safe, or working worldwide do not prove who operates it. A page loading successfully only demonstrates that a domain responded from one network at one moment.
Availability can differ by country, internet provider, DNS resolver, and device. A domain may also be suspended, seized, abandoned, redirected, or replaced by a copycat before a proxy directory updates its page.

| Claim | More accurate explanation |
|---|---|
| “This is the official YTS proxy.” | There is no authoritative proxy directory that establishes ownership or authenticity. |
| “The link is verified and safe.” | Uptime checks do not test the operator’s identity, downloads, advertisements, or malware risk. |
| “HTTPS proves the site is genuine.” | HTTPS encrypts traffic to a domain; it does not authenticate the site owner or authorize its content. |
| “A VPN makes the activity legal.” | A VPN changes network routing and may affect visibility, but it does not grant copyright permission. |
YIFY and YTS: what the names mean
The original YIFY release group and its associated YTS website shut down permanently on October 30, 2015, following legal pressure from the Motion Picture Association of America. No further official releases from that original operation were expected after the shutdown.
Later sites using the YTS or YIFY branding should therefore not automatically be described as the original service. TorrentFreak’s YTS archive describes YTS.MX as an unofficial successor and reports that YTS-branded operations have changed domains and faced legal action. The U.S. Trade Representative’s 2024 Notorious Markets review also identified YTS.MX, or YIFY, as a peer-to-peer movie-torrent site and noted domain changes intended to avoid enforcement. That 2024 report does not establish that any particular domain works in August 2026.
What a proxy changes—and what it does not
A proxy is an intermediary between a user and a website. It can change the route used to reach a domain, but it does not change the nature of a file hosted by that service.
- It does not turn an unauthorized copy into an authorized one.
- It does not establish that the site operator is connected to the original YIFY group.
- It does not scan files for malware.
- It does not prevent phishing, deceptive advertising, or account theft.
- It does not guarantee that a download or torrent will be legal in the user’s jurisdiction.
BitTorrent itself is a technology with lawful uses, including distributing open-source software and public-domain media. The legal issue depends on the specific material, authorization, jurisdiction, and conduct. In the United States, unauthorized copying or distribution of copyrighted movies may constitute infringement.

Risks associated with YTS/YIFY copycat domains
Unofficial mirrors often attract users through familiar logos, search pages, and download buttons. That familiarity is not evidence of trustworthiness. Common failure modes include:
- Malvertising and fake buttons: multiple “Download” controls may open redirects, browser-notification prompts, or phishing pages instead of the expected file.
- Malicious redirects: a legitimate-looking homepage can send visitors to unrelated software installers, fake security alerts, or payment scams.
- Fake applications and extensions: a site may claim that a special player, codec, browser extension, or mobile app is required. Such software can request excessive permissions or install unwanted components.
- Credential theft: cloned pages may ask for email addresses, passwords, payment information, or “verification” details that the original service would not need.
- Incomplete mirrors: the homepage may load while search, subtitles, torrent-file retrieval, magnet links, or redirects fail.
- Domain impersonation: small spelling changes, unfamiliar top-level domains, and copied branding can make an unrelated site appear authentic.
The Federal Trade Commission warns that illegal streaming apps and add-ons can expose banking credentials, payment-card details, passwords, and other personal information. The FBI has also warned that pirated software and peer-to-peer files may contain malware capable of logging keystrokes, stealing data, corrupting files, or enabling unauthorized access.
If you already visited a suspicious mirror
Do not install anything merely because a page says it is required to continue. If you clicked a suspicious link or downloaded a file, take these steps:
- Close the tab and cancel any unexpected download.
- Do not open files with unfamiliar extensions or run installers obtained from the page.
- Remove notification permission for the site in your browser. In Chrome, use Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Notifications. In Edge, use Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Notifications.
- Run a scan with your operating system’s updated security software. On Windows, open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options.
- Review recently installed browser extensions and applications, removing anything you do not recognize.
- If you entered a password, change it from a clean device and enable multifactor authentication. Reuse of that password on other services makes this especially urgent.
- Monitor bank and payment accounts if you submitted financial information.

- DVD or Blu-ray rental and purchase services;
- public-library lending platforms;
- official broadcaster or studio websites;
- public-domain and openly licensed collections.
Availability varies by region, so a reputable movie-search or library-catalog service can help identify where a title is legally available without relying on an unverified mirror.
How to evaluate claims about a proxy list
If a search result claims to provide “working YTS proxies,” treat it as an unverified lead rather than an authority. Check whether the page:
- clearly identifies its operator and editorial standards;
- provides independent evidence for ownership claims;
- distinguishes historical information from current availability;
- avoids requesting an app, extension, payment, or browser permission;
- does not promise that a domain is safe, official, or legal;
- links to primary sources instead of repeating other proxy directories.
Even when a page passes these checks, that does not make an unauthorized download lawful or prove that a linked domain is malware-free. The safest conclusion is that a static proxy list cannot verify those properties.

Is YIFY still the original official movie site?
No. The original YIFY/YTS operation shut down permanently on October 30, 2015. Later YTS- or YIFY-branded websites should be described as unofficial successors, imitators, or other later operators unless independently proven otherwise.

Is YTS.MX an official YIFY mirror?
It should not be called the original official site without authoritative evidence establishing continuity. Current references generally describe YTS.MX as an unofficial successor or later YTS-branded operator.
Does using a YTS proxy make downloading movies legal?
No. A proxy changes how a website is reached; it does not provide copyright permission. Unauthorized copying or distribution of copyrighted movies may constitute infringement, depending on the content and jurisdiction.
Can HTTPS or a VPN make a YTS mirror safe?
No. HTTPS protects the connection to a domain but does not prove who operates it or whether its files are safe. A VPN may change network routing, but it cannot prevent malware, phishing, or copyright issues.
The Bottom Line
There is no authoritative, safely verifiable YIFY/YTS proxy list to publish in 2026. The original service ended in 2015, later domains are unofficial or difficult to authenticate, and proxy access does not legalize unauthorized movie distribution. Avoid downloading apps or files from copycat sites, secure any accounts exposed to a suspicious page, and use licensed streaming, rental, purchase, library, or public-domain sources instead.
