The Outlook integration you need is usually called the Microsoft Teams Meeting add-in. It adds a New Teams Meeting button to Outlook so you can create a Teams meeting without switching to the Teams app.
On Windows, the add-in is installed with the Teams desktop client. On Outlook on the web, new Outlook, and Outlook for Mac, the Teams meeting option is normally built into the calendar experience rather than installed as a traditional COM add-in.
Before you start
Check these points before troubleshooting the add-in:
- Install and sign in to the Microsoft Teams desktop app if you use classic Outlook for Windows.
- Sign in to Outlook with the same work or school Microsoft 365 account used in Teams.
- Use a Microsoft 365 account and plan that includes Teams meeting functionality.
- Close and reopen both Teams and Outlook after installing or updating either application.
Personal Microsoft accounts, organizational restrictions, expired licenses, and disabled add-ins can all prevent the Teams button from appearing.

Add the Teams meeting option to classic Outlook for Windows
- Download and install the Microsoft Teams desktop app for Windows.
- Start Teams and sign in with your work or school account.
- Quit Outlook completely. If it remains open in the notification area, right-click the Outlook icon and choose Close window or exit it from the taskbar.
- Quit Teams as well, then start Teams again. This allows the Teams meeting integration to register with Office.
- Open Outlook.
- Select Calendar.
- Select New Teams Meeting on the Outlook ribbon. In some Outlook layouts, the command appears under New Items > Teams Meeting.
Outlook should open a meeting invitation containing a Teams meeting link. Add attendees, a subject, and a time, then select Send.
If the button is not on the ribbon
- In Outlook, select File > Options.
- Select Add-ins.
- At the bottom of the window, set Manage to COM Add-ins.
- Select Go.
- Look for Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office.
- Tick its checkbox and select OK.
- Restart Outlook.
If the add-in appears under Disabled Items, return to File > Options > Add-ins, set Manage to Disabled Items, select Go, choose the Teams add-in, and select Enable. Then check the COM Add-ins list again.
Use Teams meetings in new Outlook
New Outlook for Windows does not use the same COM add-in controls as classic Outlook. To schedule a meeting:

- Open Calendar in new Outlook.
- Select New event.
- Turn on the Teams meeting switch, or select the Teams meeting button in the event window.
- Enter the attendees, subject, date, and time.
- Select Save or Send.
If the Teams option is missing, confirm that Teams is installed and that Outlook is signed in with the correct organization account. Your Microsoft 365 administrator may also control whether Teams meetings are available in Outlook.

Use the Teams add-in in Outlook on the web
- Go to Outlook on the web and sign in.
- Open Calendar.
- Select New event.
- Choose Teams meeting, or switch on the Teams meeting option in the event form.
- Complete the invitation and select Send.
The meeting link is added to the invitation automatically. The exact button position can vary with the Outlook web layout, window width, and Microsoft 365 rollout.
Use Teams meetings in Outlook for Mac
- Open Outlook for Mac and select Calendar.
- Create a new event or meeting.
- Select Teams Meeting in the event toolbar.
- Add the participants and meeting details.
- Send the invitation.
On current Mac versions, the Teams command is generally provided through the Outlook calendar integration rather than the Windows-style COM Add-ins dialog. If it is absent, update Outlook and Teams, then sign out and back in with the same Microsoft 365 account.

Fix a missing or broken Teams Outlook add-in
1. Restart both applications
Close Outlook and Teams, then reopen Teams first and Outlook second. This is especially useful after installing Teams, changing accounts, or applying an Office update.

In Teams, select your profile picture and confirm the account and organization. In Outlook, check the account under File > Office Account in classic Outlook. A personal Outlook account and a work Teams account may not expose the same integration.

3. Check whether Outlook disabled it
In classic Outlook, go to File > Options > Add-ins. Check both Disabled Items and COM Add-ins. Outlook may disable an add-in after it detects a slow startup or repeated crash.
4. Update Teams and Office
In classic Outlook, select File > Office Account > Update Options > Update Now. In Teams, open Settings and more next to your profile picture and check for updates. Restart the applications after updating.
5. Repair Microsoft 365
- Open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office.
- Select More options or the three-dot menu, then choose Modify.
- Run Quick Repair first.
- If the add-in is still missing, try Online Repair. This requires an internet connection and may take longer.
Repairing Office can reset some Office settings, so save work and close Office applications first.
6. Reinstall or update Teams
If the Teams desktop installation is incomplete or was removed, the Outlook integration may not register. Uninstall Teams from Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps, restart Windows, then install the current Teams desktop client and sign in again.

7. Check organizational policy
If the button is missing for multiple users, an administrator may have disabled Teams integration, restricted Teams meeting creation, or assigned a license without the required service. Ask the Microsoft 365 administrator to check the user’s Teams and Exchange Online licensing, Teams meeting policy, and Outlook add-in deployment.
Common situations that look like an add-in problem

Remove the Teams meeting option from Outlook
In classic Outlook, go to File > Options > Add-ins, select COM Add-ins in the Manage box, select Go, clear Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office, and select OK. This removes the Outlook command but does not uninstall Teams.
In new Outlook or Outlook on the web, simply turn off the Teams meeting option when creating an event. Existing Teams meetings retain their meeting details unless you remove them from the event.

Why is the Teams add-in not showing in Outlook?
The most common causes are that Teams is not installed or signed in, Outlook disabled the COM add-in, the two apps use different accounts, or an administrator has restricted the integration. In classic Outlook, check File > Options > Add-ins and review both Disabled Items and COM Add-ins.

Do I need to download the Teams Outlook add-in separately?
Usually no. The Teams Meeting add-in is installed or registered with the Teams desktop client on Windows. New Outlook, Outlook on the web, and Outlook for Mac generally expose Teams meeting creation through the calendar interface instead of requiring a separate Windows COM add-in download.
Can I add a Teams meeting to an existing Outlook meeting?
Open the meeting in Outlook, select the Teams meeting command or switch, and save or send the update. If the command is unavailable, create the meeting in Teams and copy its joining link into the Outlook invitation as a workaround.
Why can I create Teams meetings in Outlook on the web but not classic Outlook?
The web version does not depend on the same local COM add-in. Classic Outlook may have a disabled, missing, or damaged Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office. Enable it under File > Options > Add-ins, then restart Outlook.

Can an administrator deploy the Teams add-in for everyone?
Yes. Microsoft 365 administrators can control Teams availability, meeting policies, licensing, and Office add-in deployment. If the option is missing across an organization, the administrator should review those settings rather than reinstalling Teams on every computer.
