Facebook does not have a separate “Link Gmail account” button. To link the two services, add your Gmail address to Facebook as an additional contact email, then confirm it with the code Facebook sends to Gmail.
This can give you another way to log in, recover your account, receive Facebook notifications, and complete security checks. It does not give Facebook access to your Gmail inbox or Google password.
What “link Facebook to Gmail” means
In Facebook’s current settings, Gmail is added as an email address—not connected as a Meta account. The relevant controls are in Accounts Center → Personal details → Contact info.

You do not need to enter your Gmail password into Facebook. You only enter the Gmail address and the confirmation code delivered to that mailbox.

Add Gmail to Facebook on a computer
- Open Facebook and sign in.
- Click your profile picture in the top-right corner.
- Select Settings & privacy, then choose Settings.
- Open Accounts Center.
- Click Personal details.
- Select Contact info.
- Click Add new contact.
- Choose Add email. Depending on your interface, this may be called Add email address.
- Type your Gmail address.
- Select the Facebook account where you want to add it.
- Click Next.
- Open Gmail in another browser tab or app. Find the message from Facebook and copy its confirmation code.
- Enter the code in Facebook and click Next.
- Click Close after Facebook confirms the address.
The Gmail address should now appear under Facebook’s contact information. It is associated with the account even if it is not the address currently marked as primary.
Add Gmail to Facebook in the mobile app
The names and locations of some controls differ slightly between Android, iPhone, iPad, and Facebook app versions. The current mobile route is:
- Open the Facebook app and tap Menu. On iPhone and iPad, Menu is generally in the bottom-right corner.
- Scroll down and tap Settings & privacy.
- Tap Settings.
- Under the Account section, tap Personal and account information.
- Tap Email address.
- Tap Go to Accounts Center.
- In the Contact information panel, tap Add new contact.
- Tap Add email.
- Enter your Gmail address and select the Facebook account to which it should be added.
- Tap Next.
- Retrieve the confirmation code from Gmail, enter it in Facebook, and tap Next.
If your app uses slightly different wording, look for Accounts Center, Personal details, or Contact info in Settings. Facebook changes its menu labels regularly, and some versions use “Accounts Centre” or “Add email address.”
What happens after you add Gmail?
Once confirmed, Gmail becomes another email address associated with your Facebook account. Facebook may use it for:

Adding the address does not automatically make it visible on your public profile. Facebook provides controls for who can see contact information, and you can choose which associated email address is primary where that option is available.
Facebook also states that contact information may be used with activity information to improve its advertising services. Review Facebook’s privacy and contact-information settings if you do not want to use the address for more than account access and security.
Make Gmail your primary Facebook email
Facebook allows an associated email address to be selected as the primary email, but the exact control is not displayed identically for every account or app version.

Select the Gmail address and look for an option such as Make primary or Set as primary email. If that control is not shown, confirm that the Gmail address has been verified first. You may also need to remove an old address before Facebook permits the change.
Remove Gmail from Facebook
On a computer
- Click your profile picture.
- Go to Settings & privacy → Settings → Accounts Center.
- Open Personal details → Contact info.
- Select the Gmail address.
- Click Delete email address, then click Delete.
- If Facebook asks for your password, enter it and click Submit.
- Click Close.
In the mobile app
- Tap Menu → Settings & privacy → Settings.
- Open Personal and account information → Email address.
- Tap Go to Accounts Center.
- Select the Gmail address under contact information.
- Tap Delete email, then Delete.
- Enter your Facebook password if requested, then tap Continue.
Before deleting Gmail, make sure another verified email address or phone number is attached to Facebook. Removing your only usable recovery method can make future account recovery more difficult.
Replace an old Facebook email address
Facebook’s documented approach is to remove the existing email address and then add the replacement address. Add and verify the new address first if Facebook allows it; that reduces the risk of losing access while changing your contact information.
If you entered the wrong email while creating a Facebook account, visit facebook.com/confirmemail.php, choose Update contact info, enter an accessible email address or mobile number, and click Add.

Fix confirmation-code problems
| Problem | What to try |

| The code has not arrived | Check Gmail’s Spam, Promotions, and All Mail folders. Confirm that the address was typed correctly, then request another code if Facebook offers that option. |
| You cannot open the Gmail account | Facebook cannot complete the addition without access to the mailbox that receives the code. Recover the Google account first, or use Facebook’s account-recovery options for people who no longer have access to their account email or phone. |
| The confirmation link shows an error | Try signing in with the email address used to create the Facebook account. If that fails, copy the complete confirmation link from the email and paste it into a browser. |
| Facebook says the email is already in use | The Gmail address may already be connected to another Facebook account. Check whether you have an existing account rather than trying to create a second personal account. |
| Facebook says the address is invalid | Check spelling, punctuation, and the domain. A typo in the Gmail address prevents the code from reaching you. |
Do not trust an email that asks for your Facebook password or includes a password attachment. Facebook correspondence can come from domains such as facebook.com, facebookmail.com, fb.com, meta.com, instagram.com, and their subdomains, but a familiar-looking sender is not a reason to provide your password. Open Facebook directly instead of following a suspicious link.
Why older Facebook instructions may not work
Many older guides send you to Settings → Security and Login or to a standalone Contact page. Facebook’s current documented desktop route is through Accounts Center → Personal details → Contact info.
Accounts Center is mainly used to manage Meta accounts such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Meta accounts. Gmail is not added there as a Google-account connection. It is entered only as Facebook contact information.

Can I connect Facebook and Gmail with one click?
No. Facebook does not currently provide a separate Gmail-link switch. Add the Gmail address under Accounts Center → Personal details → Contact info, then verify it with the code sent to Gmail.

Will Facebook read my Gmail messages?
No. Adding the address associates it with your Facebook account for login, recovery, notifications, and security. It does not import your Gmail inbox or give Facebook your Google password.
Can I use the same Gmail address for two Facebook accounts?
An email address already tied to a Facebook account generally cannot be used to create another personal Facebook account. Facebook also prohibits maintaining more than one personal account.
Is my Gmail address visible to everyone after I add it?
Not automatically. Facebook has settings that control who can see contact information. Review the email visibility settings on your profile if privacy is important.

Check Gmail’s Spam, Promotions, and All Mail folders, verify the spelling of the address, and request a new code if available. You must access that Gmail mailbox to complete verification.
The Bottom Line
To link Facebook to Gmail, add the Gmail address through Accounts Center → Personal details → Contact info, then enter the verification code Facebook sends to Gmail. This creates a Facebook account-recovery and contact method; it does not connect Facebook to your Gmail inbox.
