A $600 TV budget can buy a genuinely useful 4K set, but the specifications vary sharply. The biggest divide is between inexpensive standard LED models, brighter QLED/Mini-LED televisions, and smaller sets that trade resolution or screen size for price.

Among the verified 2025 listings, the TCL 55-inch QM6K is the strongest all-around option at $549.99. The Hisense 65-inch U6 Series is the better choice when screen size matters most, also at $549.99. Samsung’s U7900 models cost much less, but they are conventional budget 4K TVs rather than Mini-LED sets.

Prices change frequently, so the figures below should be treated as the checked listing prices rather than permanent MSRPs. Also, Best Buy’s “Best TV Under $600” page includes at least one television above the limit: the 65-inch TCL QM6K is listed at $699.99 and does not qualify.

1. TCL 55-inch QM6K — best overall under $600

Price checked: $549.99 at Best Buy.

The TCL QM6K offers the most ambitious feature set in this group. It combines a 4K panel with QD Mini-LED backlighting, HDR support, a listed 144Hz refresh rate, Google TV, and Dolby Atmos. That makes it a better fit than a basic LED television for viewers who watch HDR movies, play games, or want a brighter, more contrast-focused picture without moving into a much higher price bracket.

  • Breathtaking picture: Sharp 4K brings out rich detail on our 55" flat screen TV, while the QLED screen and HDR10 create bright, accurate colors. Roku Smart Picture cleans up incoming TV signals, optimizes them, and chooses the right picture mode.

  • A world of free entertainment: Enjoy a huge selection of free live TV, news, sports, movies, shows, and much more—all just a click away.
  • More streaming, less searching: With personalized picks right on your Home Screen, quick access to the sports and entertainment you watch most, and fast and easy search in one place—the days of endless scrolling are over.

Google TV is also a practical advantage if you use YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, Chromecast, or Google Assistant. The important distinction is that this is the 55-inch model at $549.99. The 65-inch QM6K is listed at $699.99, so it is not an under-$600 recommendation.

The compromise is size: a 65-inch budget TV can create a more cinematic image from across a living room. The QM6K is therefore the better pick for picture technology, while the Hisense 65-inch U6 is the better pick for sheer screen area.

2. Hisense 65-inch U6 Series — best 65-inch value

Price checked: $549.99 at Best Buy.

At $549.99, the 65-inch Hisense U6 Series gives you a Mini-LED QLED television for the same price as the 55-inch TCL QM6K. Its listed features include 4K HDR, Dolby Atmos, Fire TV, and Alexa compatibility.

This is the logical choice for a larger family room where viewing distance matters more than having the newest gaming features. Mini-LED backlighting and quantum-dot color should give it a more capable picture than a basic edge-lit 4K set, particularly for HDR content.

There is one software detail to check before buying: the U6 listing uses Fire TV, not Google TV. Fire TV provides the major streaming services and Alexa integration, but it has a different home screen, recommendation system, and settings layout from Google TV. Do not assume the operating system from the Hisense brand alone; it is model-specific.

3. Hisense 55-inch U6 Series — best lower-cost Mini-LED

Price checked: $437.48 at Best Buy.

The 55-inch U6 Series is the value alternative to the TCL QM6K. It retains the main attraction of the larger Hisense—Mini-LED QLED backlighting—while dropping the price by more than $100. The listing also includes 4K UHD, HDR, Dolby Atmos, Alexa, and Fire TV.

Choose this model if you want improved backlighting and a 55-inch screen but do not need the TCL’s listed 144Hz gaming specification. It is particularly appealing for a bedroom, apartment living room, or anyone who would rather spend the difference on a soundbar or streaming subscription.

As with the 65-inch version, Fire TV is part of the package. Buyers who strongly prefer Google TV should compare the exact model number rather than relying on a retailer’s broad Hisense category.

4. Samsung 65-inch U7900 Series — best cheap large-screen 4K TV

Price checked: $329.99 at Best Buy.

The Samsung U7900 is a much less expensive type of television than the TCL QM6K or Hisense U6. It uses a standard 4K HDR display and Samsung’s Tizen smart-TV platform, with the company’s listed triple-layer security protection.

Its main advantage is straightforward: $329.99 for a 65-inch 4K smart TV is a very low entry price. It is a sensible choice for casual streaming, broadcast TV, sports, and a large screen on a tight budget.

Do not buy it expecting Mini-LED contrast, OLED-level blacks, or advanced high-refresh gaming. A low price often means giving up the picture-processing and backlighting improvements found in the more expensive recommendations.

5. Samsung 55-inch U7900 Series — best budget 55-inch TV

Price checked: $279.99 at Best Buy.

The 55-inch U7900 delivers the same basic formula as the 65-inch model: 4K HDR, Tizen, and Samsung’s stated triple-layer security protection. At $279.99, it is one of the least expensive ways to get a current Samsung-branded 4K smart TV.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This is the right size and price for a first apartment, guest room, or straightforward living-room upgrade. Its limitations are the same as the 65-inch version: the listing does not position it as a Mini-LED, QLED, or high-refresh gaming display.

6. Samsung 58-inch U8000F Series — a middle-size alternative

Price checked: $379.99 at Best Buy.

The 58-inch U8000F sits between the U7900 sizes and prices. It offers 4K UHD, HDR, Wi-Fi 5, voice assistant support, and Samsung’s triple-layer security feature.

  • COLOR BOOSTER: Supercharge your color. From fiery reds to sparkling blues, make every color come to life with intensity. Color Booster transforms your content into a visual masterpiece.
  • 4K UPSCALING: Upgrades what you watch to crisp 4K clarity. Upgrade your favorite shows, movies and more. Experience incredible details and clarity in every frame, even from lower-quality sources, with advanced upscaling technology.

It makes sense when a 55-inch screen feels slightly too small but a 65-inch model would overwhelm the room. However, its value depends heavily on the live price. If the 65-inch U7900 remains $329.99, the U8000F is not automatically the better deal; you are paying more for the intermediate size and model tier rather than for Mini-LED backlighting or a listed 144Hz panel.

7. Samsung 40-inch F6000F — best small-room option

Price checked: $199.99 at Best Buy.

The F6000F is the cheapest television in this selection, but it is important not to mistake it for a small 4K set. It has a Full HD display, not 4K. Its listed features include HDR, virtual 3D sound, Alexa compatibility, and Tizen.

That resolution is acceptable for a kitchen, dorm room, office, guest room, or older viewer sitting relatively close to the screen. It is less suitable as the main TV if you expect a highly detailed 4K image or plan to sit several feet away.

What happened to the TCL QM5K and Hisense U65QF?

Both models appeared in major 2025 budget-TV recommendations, but their reported prices need careful dating.

Tom’s Guide reported holiday-sale prices on December 18, 2025 of $349 for the 55-inch TCL QM5K and $469 for the 65-inch model. It praised the QM5K’s Google TV, Dolby Vision, and Mini-LED backlighting, but noted that the set has only three HDMI inputs, not four. That can matter if you connect multiple game consoles, a soundbar, a streaming box, and another source.

The same report listed the Hisense U65QF at $429 for 55 inches and $574 for 65 inches. It described the Hisense as brighter than the QM5K and highlighted two HDMI 2.1 inputs capable of 4K gaming up to 144Hz. Its criticism was the clunky Fire TV interface.

How to choose a TV under $600

  1. Decide whether picture quality or screen size comes first. The TCL QM6K and Hisense U6 use Mini-LED/QLED technology. Samsung’s cheaper U7900 is more about getting a large 4K screen for less.
  2. Match the operating system to your habits. TCL’s QM6K uses Google TV. The cited Hisense U6 listings use Fire TV. Samsung uses Tizen. App availability, search, recommendations, and voice controls differ between them.
  3. Check the native refresh specification. A number such as “Motion Rate 240” does not prove a 240Hz panel. TCL describes that type of rating as a combination of motion-enhancement technologies and MEMC frame insertion. Look for an explicit native refresh rate instead.
  4. Count HDMI inputs. Three ports can be restrictive if you have several consoles and external devices. Also check which port supports eARC for a soundbar and which support the gaming features you need.
  5. Keep Mini-LED expectations realistic. Mini-LED is still LCD technology, not OLED. Local dimming can improve contrast, but bright objects or subtitles may still produce visible glow or blooming.
  6. Measure the room. A 65-inch TV is not automatically better than a 55-inch model. Consider viewing distance, stand width, wall space, and whether nearby windows will reflect in the screen.

Are QLED and Mini-LED the same as OLED?

No. QLED televisions are LCD/LED sets that use quantum dots to improve color, while Mini-LED refers to the smaller LEDs used in the backlight. OLED pixels emit their own light and can switch off individually.

The TCL and Hisense models above are LCD televisions, despite their QLED or Mini-LED labels. They can offer strong brightness and good contrast for the money, but they do not guarantee OLED-style blacks. Budget Mini-LED sets can still show halos around bright objects, especially in dark scenes.

Are there other under-$600 TVs worth considering?

Model availability changes quickly. Consumer Reports’ 2025 buying guide listed the Roku 65R6A5R at $600 with an overall score of 70, but its reported test scores were modest for HDR, viewing angle, motion blur, and sound. The guide also listed the Hisense 55U7N at $650, which is outside a strict $600 budget unless discounted.

Vizio’s inexpensive Mini-LED options can be worth investigating if gaming features such as 4K at 60Hz, 1080p at 120Hz, and VRR fit your needs. However, Vizio OS has a smaller app selection than Google TV, Roku, or Fire TV, and direct light sources can cause strong reflections.

Retail pages also mix model years. A current search can include 2025, 2024, 2023, and 2026 televisions. Check the full model number and specifications rather than assuming that every product on a retailer’s “under $600” page is a 2025 model.

Can a budget Mini-LED TV match OLED?

No. Mini-LED can improve brightness and contrast over ordinary LED sets, but it remains LCD technology. Local-dimming glow or blooming can still appear around bright objects and subtitles.

The Bottom Line

Buy the TCL 55-inch QM6K if you want the best balance of picture technology, HDR, gaming potential, and smart-TV features under $600. Choose the Hisense 65-inch U6 if a larger screen is more important than Google TV or the TCL’s listed 144Hz specification. For the lowest prices, Samsung’s 55-inch U7900 at $279.99 and 65-inch U7900 at $329.99 are practical 4K options, while the $199.99 F6000F is best reserved for small spaces because it is only Full HD.

Before ordering, verify the live price, model year, HDMI count, operating system, and native refresh rate. Those details matter more than a retailer category label or a large marketing number such as “Motion Rate 240.”
