You can run many Fabric mods inside a NeoForge Minecraft instance, but the current method is not the old “Forge + Fabric API” setup. Sinytra Connector now supports NeoForge, not current Forge, and uses a compatibility layer to load compatible Fabric mod JARs.
The practical combination is:
- NeoForge for the Minecraft version you want to play
- Sinytra Connector
- Forgified Fabric API
- Launchpad
- Fabric mods that have been tested or confirmed to work with Connector
This guide explains the setup, version matching, optional compatibility bridges, and the most common crashes.
Forge versus NeoForge: an important correction
The title of this setup is often described as running “Forge and Fabric mods together,” but that wording is now misleading. Current Sinytra Connector releases run exclusively on NeoForge. The original Forge-based implementation was associated with the older 1.20.1 project.

NeoForge mods and compatible Fabric mods can share the same instance because NeoForge provides the main loader while Connector translates the Fabric-side expectations that supported mods have.
What you need

Download every file for the same Minecraft version and use the latest stable NeoForge version recommended by Connector for that version. A 1.21.1 dependency cannot be treated as a universal file for 26.1.2 or another Minecraft release.
Check compatibility before installing mods
Connector does not make every Fabric mod compatible. Before building the pack, search for each mod in the Sinytra Connector compatibility checker and check its automated test results.

The Fabric mod must also be built for the exact Minecraft version in your NeoForge instance. Connector cannot safely turn a mod made for 1.20.1 into a 1.21.1 mod.
Connector’s current project information identifies Minecraft 26.1.2 as the primary version receiving the newest fixes, while 1.21.1 is treated as a long-term-support version. The compatibility checker separately identifies Fabric-exclusive mods released for 1.21.1. Those scopes are not interchangeable: check the actual version of every JAR instead of assuming that a listed mod works on both.
Install NeoForge and the Connector dependencies
- Create a NeoForge instance. In your launcher or modpack manager, create an instance for the target Minecraft version and select NeoForge as its loader. Use the latest stable NeoForge release recommended by the Connector project.
- Open that instance’s folder. Find its
modsdirectory. For a manually managed default Minecraft installation on Windows, this is commonly%AppData%.minecraftmods. Launchers that isolate instances usually have a separatemodsfolder inside each instance directory. - Download the matching dependencies. Obtain the Minecraft-version-matched files for Forgified Fabric API, Launchpad, and Sinytra Connector.
- Copy the three JAR files into
mods. Do not extract the JARs. Leave them as downloaded files. - Copy compatible Fabric mod JARs into the same folder. No separate conversion step is required. Connector detects and loads supported Fabric mods from the NeoForge instance.
- Start the instance. If NeoForge reaches the title screen, open the Mods screen and check the log if a particular mod is missing or disabled.
There is no documented command, console command, or in-game toggle that enables Fabric support. Installing the correct loader and JAR files in the instance’s mods folder is the setup.

Do not install normal Fabric API alongside Forgified Fabric API
Forgified Fabric API replaces the normal Fabric API. It is not an add-on to the regular Fabric API, and the two are explicitly not compatible.

If a modpack manager automatically adds a file named something like fabric-api-..., remove or disable it where the manager allows. Keep the Connector-compatible Forgified Fabric API file instead. Intentionally placing both API implementations in the same mods directory is a common cause of an immediate startup failure.
This does not mean that every file from the Fabric ecosystem must be removed. A Fabric mod that is compatible with Connector can remain in the folder; the specific conflict is between the normal Fabric API and Forgified Fabric API.
When to install Connector Extras
Connector Extras is optional. It is not one of the three dependencies in Connector’s basic installation instructions.
Install it only when a mod or pack needs one of the bridges it supplies, such as integrations for:

Connector Extras can solve a specific missing API integration, but it does not make arbitrary incompatible Fabric mods work. Add it after the basic instance starts successfully, then test the affected mod.

Special case: Geckolib-dependent mods
If a mod uses Geckolib, use the NeoForge build of Geckolib for the instance, even when the mod that uses it is a Fabric mod loaded through Connector. The current Connector guidance recommends the NeoForge Geckolib file and says the Fabric build should no longer be needed for Connector use.
Do not add both Fabric and NeoForge Geckolib versions to “cover all bases.” Duplicate library implementations can cause dependency resolution errors, class conflicts, or crashes during startup.
Client and server considerations
Connector can be used in server setups, but the exact mod list depends on whether each mod is client-side, server-side, or required on both sides.

- A client-only Fabric mod, such as a visual or interface enhancement, belongs on the client.
- A server-only gameplay or administration mod belongs on the server.
- A mod that adds blocks, items, entities, or networking commonly needs matching files on both sides.
Connector is not necessarily required on the client when joining a server using it, according to the relevant project guidance. However, that does not override a mod’s own side requirements. Read the mod’s documentation and use matching versions where the mod requires them.
Troubleshoot startup crashes
“The game crashes immediately after adding the APIs”
First inspect the mods folder for both normal Fabric API and Forgified Fabric API. Remove the normal Fabric API. Also check that Connector, Launchpad, and Forgified Fabric API all target the same Minecraft version.
“A mod worked on one Connector release but fails after updating”
This can happen. Connector’s patching and compatibility behavior changes between releases, and a mod that worked previously may need a new compatibility fix. Revert to the last working Connector version or check the project’s issue tracker and compatibility results before changing the rest of the pack.

Mixin injection or transformation error
Fabric mixins can target Minecraft classes after NeoForge has modified them. Connector includes an Adapter framework for common conflicts, but it cannot guarantee that every mixin will work. Remove the suspected mod and test the instance with the remaining files. A stack trace mentioning a mixin target is a useful clue, but the named class is not always the mod that caused the conflict.

Fabric and Forge-family loaders have historically differed in registry timing, frozen vanilla registries, and registry locks. Mods that register content at an unsupported stage can fail during startup. Use a tested version of the mod, remove recently added content mods, and test them one at a time.
Rendering, REI, JEI, or configuration integration fails
The Fabric mod may depend on an API that does not automatically communicate with NeoForge. Check whether Connector Extras provides the required bridge. If it does not, treat the dependency as a compatibility limitation rather than adding random API files.
The crash report blames Connector
Connector may be the first component to report a failure without being the underlying cause. Test the same mod on an ordinary Fabric instance, check existing Connector issues, and reduce the NeoForge pack to the smallest list that still crashes. A useful isolation sequence is:
- Back up the world and config folder.
- Keep only NeoForge, Connector, Forgified Fabric API, and Launchpad.
- Confirm that this empty Connector setup starts.
- Add the Fabric mods one at a time or in small groups.
- When the crash returns, test that mod with its documented dependencies and the smallest possible pack.
What this setup cannot do
- It cannot load every Fabric mod automatically.
- It does not support current Connector releases on ordinary Forge.
- It does not make mismatched Minecraft versions safe.
- It does not require or support normal Fabric API alongside Forgified Fabric API.
- Connector Extras cannot bridge every unsupported Fabric API.
- A Fabric build of a library is not always the right choice just because the dependent mod was made for Fabric.
The most reliable mixed packs are built around tested Fabric mods, fixed Minecraft and loader versions, and incremental changes. Avoid updating NeoForge, Connector, and several major mods at the same time; otherwise, a new crash is difficult to attribute.

Can I use Forge and Fabric mods together with current Sinytra Connector?
Use NeoForge rather than current Forge. The supported arrangement is a NeoForge instance with Sinytra Connector, Forgified Fabric API, Launchpad, compatible Fabric mods, and any compatible NeoForge mods.

Do I need the normal Fabric API?
No. Forgified Fabric API is the Connector-compatible replacement. Do not install normal Fabric API beside it because the two are not compatible.
Do Fabric mods need to be converted before I copy them to NeoForge?
No separate conversion command is documented. Put compatible, Minecraft-version-matched Fabric JARs in the same mods folder as Connector and its dependencies.
Is Connector Extras required?
No. The basic required files are Connector, Forgified Fabric API, and Launchpad on a NeoForge instance. Connector Extras is an optional set of bridges for particular integrations such as REI, JEI, Mod Menu, and TerraBlender.
Will every Fabric mod work?
No. Check the Connector compatibility checker. Its statuses include Compatible, Functional, and Incompatible, and a mod must also match the Minecraft version of your instance.
Which Geckolib version should I install?
For current Connector use, install the NeoForge Geckolib build when a modpack needs Geckolib. Do not install both Fabric and NeoForge Geckolib files.
Does the server need Connector if the client is joining it?
Connector can run on a server, and it is not necessarily required on the client in the relevant server arrangement. The required files still depend on each mod’s client/server requirements, so check the individual mod documentation.
The Bottom Line
The current way to combine the two mod ecosystems is NeoForge + Sinytra Connector, not current Forge + Fabric API. Install the version-matched NeoForge instance, Forgified Fabric API, Launchpad, and Connector; place tested Fabric JARs in the instance’s mods folder; and add Connector Extras only for a specific supported integration. If the pack crashes, remove normal Fabric API first, verify every Minecraft version, and isolate mods until the conflicting file is identified.
