Microsoft Teams does not have a separate “Quiz” button in every chat or channel. The usual method is to use Microsoft Forms inside Teams. You can create the quiz from a channel, add it as a tab, and let people answer without leaving Teams.
This guide uses the current Teams desktop and web interface. Menu names can differ slightly if your organization uses a customized Teams setup or has restricted the Forms app.
What you need before creating a Teams quiz
You need access to Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Forms through your Microsoft 365 account. In a work or school organization, an administrator may block Forms or prevent users from adding apps and tabs.
Decide where the quiz will live before you start:
| Location | Best for | What participants need |
|---|---|---|
| Team channel | Training, classes, department knowledge checks | Access to the team or a shared quiz link |
| Teams chat | A small group or a private exercise | Access to the chat |
| Teams meeting | Live questions during a presentation or lesson | To be in the meeting; the presenter may use Forms or a meeting app |

Question types you can use
Use different question types to make the quiz easier to answer and grade:
| Type | Useful for | Scoring note |
|---|---|---|
| Choice | Single-answer or multiple-answer questions | Mark one or more correct choices |
| Text | Short written answers | Automatic grading works best when the expected answer is exact |
| Rating | Opinions or confidence checks | Usually not suitable for right-or-wrong scoring |
| Date | Dates and deadlines | Useful when the answer must be a specific date |
For a beginner-friendly scored quiz, Choice questions are the simplest option. If you allow several correct choices, state that clearly in the question—for example, “Select all that apply.”
Set the quiz options
After adding questions, select Settings or the More settings for this form link. The available options depend on your account and organization.
Review these settings before sharing:
- Who can fill out this form: Choose whether anyone with the link can respond, only people in your organization can respond, or only specific people can respond.
- Record name: Turn this on if you need to know who submitted each attempt. Turn it off for anonymous practice quizzes.
- One response per person: Enable this when each participant should have only one attempt.
- Accept responses: Turn this off when the quiz closes.
- Shuffle questions: Useful when students or employees should not all receive the questions in the same order.
- Show results automatically: Decide whether participants see their score as soon as they submit.
- Start and end dates: Set a response window if the quiz must be completed by a deadline.
Be careful with Show results automatically. If you are using the quiz as an assessment and want to review answers first, disable it.

Share the quiz with your Teams group
When the quiz is ready, select Collect responses or Send. Forms normally provides several sharing options:
- Copy the link: Paste the quiz link into a channel post, chat message, email, or assignment.
- Teams sharing: Send the quiz directly to a Teams conversation if that option is available.
- QR code: Display or download a QR code for people answering on phones.
- Embed: Place the quiz in a supported webpage or learning platform.
To post it in a channel, open the channel’s Posts tab, start a new post, write instructions, paste the Forms link, and select Send. Include the deadline and whether participants can submit more than once.
For example:
Complete the five-question onboarding quiz by Friday at 4:00 PM. You may submit once. Your score will appear after submission.
How to add an existing quiz to Teams
If you already created the quiz in Microsoft Forms, you do not need to recreate it.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Open the target Teams channel.
- Select + at the top to add a tab.
- Select Forms.
- Choose Add an existing form or the equivalent option.
- Search for and select your quiz.
- Choose whether the tab should display the quiz for people to complete or show its results.
- Select Save.
Adding the quiz as a tab makes it easy to find later. Posting the link is still useful because members receive a notification in the channel conversation.
How to view quiz answers and scores
- Open the quiz tab in Teams, or open the quiz from Microsoft Forms.
- Select the quiz.
- Open the Responses tab.
- Use Overview to see response counts, average scores, and question summaries.
- Use Review answers to inspect individual submissions.
- Select Open in Excel if you need to sort, filter, or save the results for further analysis.
Forms grades many choice questions automatically. Review text answers manually because small differences in spelling or wording may prevent an answer from being marked correct.

Create a quiz during a Teams meeting
For a live meeting, you can use the meeting’s Apps option to add Forms or another polling app, if your organization allows it. A prebuilt Forms quiz is usually more reliable than creating one while people are waiting.
- Create the quiz in Forms before the meeting.
- Join the Teams meeting and select Apps or More.
- Search for Forms.
- Add the quiz or paste its response link into the meeting chat.
- Tell participants when to open it and whether results will be displayed immediately.
If you need instant, one-question voting rather than a scored assessment, a Teams poll may be a better choice. A quiz is preferable when you need multiple questions, answer keys, points, and response reports.
Create a quiz from a Teams chat
You can also share a Forms quiz in a one-to-one or group chat:
- Open the chat.
- Select Actions and apps beside the message box.
- Search for Forms, if it is available.
- Create a new quiz or paste the link to an existing quiz.
- Add a short explanation and send the message.
If Forms is not available in the chat composer, create the quiz at forms.office.com and paste the response link into the chat instead.
Common problems and fixes
| Problem | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Forms does not appear when adding a tab | The app is blocked or the search is using the wrong name | Search for “Microsoft Forms,” try the web version of Teams, or ask your administrator to allow the app. |
| People cannot open the quiz | The response setting is limited to a different audience | Open the quiz settings and check “Who can fill out this form.” |
| Participants can submit repeatedly | One-response protection is disabled | Enable One response per person, where available. |
| The score is wrong | An answer key or point value is missing | Edit each question, mark the correct answer, and check its points. |
| Names are missing from results | Responses are anonymous | Require sign-in and enable name recording before collecting responses. |
| A person outside the organization cannot respond | The quiz accepts only organization accounts | Change the audience to anyone with the link, if your organization’s policy permits it. |
| The quiz tab is visible but cannot be edited | The user has access to complete the quiz but not edit it | Open the original quiz with the owner account or ask the owner to grant editing access. |
Tips for making a better Teams quiz
- Put the answer key in Forms, not in the Teams announcement.
- Use one clear idea per question.
- Assign points consistently—for example, one point for each basic knowledge question and two points for scenario questions.
- Test the response link in a private browser window before sending it to the group.
- State whether answers are case-sensitive or whether multiple answers may be selected.
- Do not share the results tab with participants unless they should see the group’s scores or response summary.
- For graded schoolwork, use the quiz through Microsoft Teams for Education assignments when available, rather than relying only on a channel link.
FAQ
Can I create a Teams quiz without Microsoft Forms?
For a scored multi-question quiz, Microsoft Forms is the standard Microsoft 365 tool used with Teams. Teams polls are better suited to quick votes and single-question interactions.
Can I create a quiz in the Teams mobile app?
You can usually answer and share a Forms quiz from mobile, but creating or fully configuring a quiz is more dependable in Microsoft Forms through a desktop or web browser. Mobile menus and available app options vary by organization.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBest Value
Can guests take a Teams quiz?
Yes, if the quiz owner allows responses from anyone with the link and the organization’s sharing policy permits guest or external responses. If it is restricted to people in the organization, guests may be blocked.
Can I edit a quiz after sharing it?
Yes. Open the quiz in Forms and edit it. However, changing questions or answer keys after responses have been submitted can affect how results are interpreted.
How do I stop people from taking the quiz?
Open the quiz in Forms, go to its response settings, and turn off Accept responses. You can also set an end date in advance.
Why do I see a form instead of a quiz?
You selected New form rather than New quiz. A form gathers responses, while a quiz includes correct answers, points, and scoring options. Create a new quiz or recreate the questions in quiz mode.

The Bottom Line
The simplest workflow is: open a Teams channel, add a Forms tab, choose New quiz, add questions and answer keys, configure response permissions, and share the link in a channel post or chat. Test the link and audience settings before publishing, especially when the quiz includes grades or personal results.
