There is no longer a supported Amazon Appstore route for installing Prime Video on a new Windows 11 PC. Microsoft removed Windows Subsystem for Android™ (WSA) and the Amazon Appstore from Microsoft Store on March 5, 2025, and Amazon says the Appstore on Windows 11 is unsupported after that date.
For most Windows 11 users, the reliable way to watch Prime Video is through a web browser at primevideo.com. If Microsoft Store offers a Prime Video app for your particular PC and region, you can install it through the normal Store process, but availability is not guaranteed and Amazon’s current device-install help does not list Windows PCs among its supported app-device categories.
What works on Windows 11 now

Do not follow older instructions that say to open Start > Microsoft Store > Amazon Appstore. That installation path is no longer valid for new Windows 11 installations. Amazon stopped allowing new customers to install apps from the Windows Appstore on March 6, 2024, and installed apps stopped being supported after March 5, 2025.

Method 1: Watch Prime Video in a browser
- Open Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or another supported browser.
- Go to www.primevideo.com.
- Select Sign in.
- Enter the Amazon account credentials associated with your Prime membership or Prime Video subscription.
- Choose a film or series, then select Watch now or the relevant playback button.
This is the main Windows 11 solution because Amazon’s current Prime Video installation help lists televisions, Amazon devices, mobile devices, Blu-ray players, game consoles, and streaming media devices—not Windows PCs. Its general instructions are to open the device’s app store, search for Prime Video, install it, open it, and register the device. Those instructions should not be interpreted as a Windows-specific download procedure.

Make Prime Video easier to open
You can save the site as a browser bookmark, pin the browser tab, or create a browser shortcut. In Microsoft Edge, open Prime Video, select the three-dot menu, then choose Apps and Install this site as an app if that option is available in your Edge version. This creates a site-style shortcut, but it does not install the discontinued Android app or restore Windows Subsystem for Android.
Method 2: Check Microsoft Store for a Windows app
Microsoft’s current Store instructions apply only if the Prime Video app is actually made available to your PC, account, and region. To check:
- Open Microsoft Store from the Start menu.
- Use the search bar at the top and search for Prime Video.
- Select the result if one is shown.
- Select Get or Install.
- When installation finishes, select Open. You can also launch it later from Windows Search or from Microsoft Store’s Library.
Microsoft requires you to sign in with a Microsoft account before downloading Microsoft Store apps. Store availability and functionality can vary by region, so a result shown in one country may not appear in another.

Reset Microsoft Store if the listing looks wrong
If Microsoft Store is behaving abnormally, reset its cache before searching again:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
wsreset.exe. - Select OK.
- Wait while the blank Command Prompt window runs. It normally closes after roughly ten seconds, and Microsoft Store opens automatically.
- Search for Prime Video again.
A Store description page can sometimes remain visible temporarily after an app has been removed. Seeing a page is therefore not proof that the app can still be installed.
Sign in and manage playback
Once Prime Video is open in a browser or an available Store app:

- Select your profile if the account has multiple Prime Video profiles.
- Use the search control to find a title, or browse categories such as movies, TV shows, and included-with-Prime content.
- Open the title page and check whether it is included, available to rent or buy, or requires another channel subscription.
- Select Watch now to start streaming. For a rental or purchase, complete the transaction before playback.
If a title is unavailable, check the account and region rather than trying to install a different Windows package. Prime Video catalogs, subscriptions, and playback rights vary by country.

What to do with an old Amazon Appstore installation
Some PCs may still contain legacy WSA or Amazon Appstore components. They are not a supported new-install solution, and reinstalling or removing them may leave you without a way to restore the Android environment.
Microsoft’s historical controls were located at Start > All apps > Windows Subsystem for Android™, where Shutdown Subsystem stopped the environment. Legacy app settings were available through Start > Apps & features, selecting the app, then More > Advanced options.
Older WSA troubleshooting also referred to Control flow guard and firewall settings. The documented paths were:
- Control flow guard: Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security > App & browser control > Exploit protection settings. Legacy guidance required CFG to be set to Use default (On).
- Firewall: Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security > App & browser control > Firewall & network protection.
These checks may help preserve a legacy Android installation, but they do not provide a current way to install Prime Video on Windows 11. They also do not change Amazon’s March 5, 2025 support cutoff.

Common problems
Prime Video is missing from Microsoft Store
Use primevideo.com in your browser. A missing listing can result from regional availability, removal from the Store, device incompatibility, family restrictions, or Store authorization issues. You can also run wsreset.exe and search again.
The Install or Get button is unavailable
Confirm that you are signed in to Microsoft Store, restart Windows if it was recently updated, and check whether the PC meets the app’s requirements. If the button remains unavailable, treat the app as unavailable for that device and use the browser.
The browser says the account cannot play a title
Check that you are using the correct Amazon account and profile. The title may not be included with Prime, may require a separate channel, or may be restricted in your region.

That advice belongs to the former WSA setup. Microsoft’s archived requirements mentioned Windows 11, x64 or ARM64 hardware, recommended 16 GB of RAM, SSD storage, and Virtual Machine Platform. Because WSA and Amazon Appstore are no longer distributed through Microsoft Store, enabling those features does not create a supported new Prime Video installation route.

Can I install Amazon Prime Video directly on Windows 11?
The dependable current option is to use Prime Video in a web browser. A Microsoft Store app may be available to some PCs and regions, but it is not guaranteed. Amazon’s current installation help does not list Windows PCs as a supported app-device category.

Do not assume that an old Android-Appstore guide provides this capability. The current verified Windows route is browser playback, while Amazon’s current device-install page does not provide a Windows-specific installer.
Should I download a Prime Video Windows installer from a third-party website?
No. If Microsoft Store does not offer the app, use the official Prime Video website instead. Third-party installers can be outdated, modified, or unsafe.
